Description:

Standing at just over 6 feet tall with a broad, muscular build, Sebastian Shaw has a relatively commanding presence in the face of the average person. His dark brown hair is relatively short and parted loosely on he left side. Thick sideburns frame the sides of his chiseled cheeks and jaw line. He appears to be middle-aged and young at the same time. A few wrinkles along the sides of his eyes, but the rest of his face is smooth.

His attire is both professional and expensive. A dark suit jacket hugs his shoulders and chest, concealing a dark red button-down shirt beneath and a matching red cloth in his breast pocket. Silver cufflinks accent his wrists. Matching slacks tightly hug his thick thighs and follow the curves of his claves down to a pair of shiny black dress shoes.

History:

Sebastian Shaw was born somewhere outside of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania in a poor household. His childhood was relatively mundane and he grew up working at a steel mill where he learned not only to work hard, but to strive for more in life than slaving away to make others wealthy. This caused him to focus on his studies in school and when he was ready to move on to college he earned a scholarship. The scholarship was offered on the same day that Sebastian's father passed away. The combination of life altering events had an overwhelming emotional effect on Sebastian and suddenly strange things began to happen. His mutant powers manifested. He quickly discovered that he was capable of absorbing kinetic energy for a variety of purposes. He could use it to enhance his own strength, stamina, agility, speed, and healing. For the time being, he kept it a secret.

After graduating with a degree in Engineering from Harvard, Sebastian quickly formed his own company. Shaw Industries. Establishing multiple contracts with the US government in order to provide military munitions, Shaw became a multimillionaire at a fairly young age. He made his first billion not long after.

His financial rise quickly caught the attention of an international organization of the social elite known as The Hellfire Club, which used its members' global presence to influence the directions of the world's governments and policies and ultimately bend it to its own will. Offered a membership, he accepted and quickly rose through the ranks to eventually become the Black King and its eventual leader. Unbeknownst to the rest of The Hellfire Club, Sebastian quickly promoted only other mutants into the Inner Circle so the Club could use its influence to further the cause of mutant kind.

His ultimate goal is to use the power and influence of his own personal fortune and that of The Hellfire Club to recruit more mutants and provide them the means to live their lives free from oppression and to punish anyone who doesn't see things their way.

Personality:

To know Sebastian Shaw is to know that there is nothing deceptive on his part. He knows what he wants and he's willing to do whatever it takes to get it. Whether it's money, influence, or murder, he'll make whatever sacrifices are required to get that which he desires most.

He revels in the spoils of life. His vast fortune has afforded him a lifestyle unavailable to most. His membership in the Hellfire Club has likewise granted him power and influence the likes of which are rarely seen. He commands respect and loyalty while himself giving up none.

He's also an exceptionally intelligent man. Both from an education point of view as well as a common sense aspect. Well learned in the applied sciences, he is an excellent engineer. His formal education combined with his natural intellect and common sense make him a rather arrogant man in most peoples' eyes.

Abilities

Energy Absorption:
The source of Sebastian Shaw's abilities stem from his root mutant power of the absorption of various forms of energy. When struck by a physical object or some other form of energy (electric, heat, cold, etc.), Sebastian can absorb it and then use it in a variety of ways. The uses of this stored energy vary from enhancing his own strength to using it as a form of healing and age retardation.

Enhanced Speed:
Shaw's energy reserves can be used to increase his physical speed. While he cannot reach a speed equal to that of other heroes whose primary ability is super speed, he can become incredibly fast. Although the exertion to run at high speeds drains his energy reserves faster than other uses of his ability, so he uses it sparingly.

Healing:
Another major use of Shaw's ability is by using his stored energy to heal his body. Cuts, bruises, and lacerations are able to be healed within a short period of time. More major injuries such as broken bones are not able to be healed very quickly and will ultimately require the same amount of time as it would anyone else.

One other effect of the healing is the maintenance of his physical youth. He maintains the appearance of a man in his early thirties when in fact he is much older.

Invulnerability:
One use of his mutant ability is to enhance his own physical durability. With no stored energy, Sebastian is just as vulnerable as any other person but one he begins to store energy he is able to use it to make his body seemingly invulnerable to most forms of energy. He has been punched, stabbed, shot with all sizes of munitions, thrown from incredible heights, and hit by vehicles and walked away unscathed with the exception of his clothing. Of course this relies on him already having energy stored. If not, he is just as vulnerable as the average human being.

Metabolism:
The energy he absorbs can sustain his body's needs for fuel. This means that he can go for long periods of time without food and, if he wishes, sleep. Given the usefulness of his other abilities, he rarely wastes his energy in this manner but it is within his powers should he need to remain awake for several days or go without eating.

Stamina:
Sebastian's stored energy can be used to increase his overall stamina levels. Performing physical feats of the most trained athlete is no problem for Sebastian. Not only performing them, but doing so for extended periods of time. As long as he has energy reserves to fuel his exertion he can run, climb, swim, and otherwise exert himself for hours and hours without rest.

Strength:

Strength enhancement is one of the primary uses of his ability. The law of the conservation of energy states that energy in an isolated system cannot be created nor destroyed. It is conserved over time. When applied to his physical strength, this means that the amount of energy he absorbs can be redirected towards his opponents. For example, if he were shot he could redirect the energy absorbed from the impact and simply by touching someone, hit them with the same amount of force. Likewise, he could exert the energy taken in by being hit by a bus, with the tip of his finger.

Combat:
A fan of most things 18th Century European, Sebastian trained in the ways of pugilism. Not necessarily in the fighting techniques of the 18th century, but just in physical combat itself. While his technique is only slightly above average compared to a trained fighter, the addition of his mutant abilities makes him a formidable opponent. He also has trained in the art of fencing and fancies himself an exceptional fencer.

Politics:

A result of his experience as CEO of Shaw Industries as well as his rise to power of the Hellfire Club, Sebastian Shaw has distilled the ability to influence others. Whether its negotiating tax benefits with foreign governments or lobbying on behalf of mutantkind, Sebastian uses his vast wealth and his influence to overthrow governments and eliminate his enemies to ultimately get whatever it is he desires.

Whether its members of the various Hellfire Club chapters around the globe or political and military leaders in dozens of countries, Sebastian has connections spanning a wide variety of areas. Politics, business, entertainment, black market, you name it. Odds are, if Sebastian needs something he'll be able to find it.

Wealth:

The formation and success of Shaw Industries granted Sebastian a fortune in the sum of millions by the age of 30. Smart investments combined with further success with his company, his fortune grew to the billions by the age of 40. He remains CEO of Shaw Industries and, combined with his investments, continues to accrue more and more money that is regularly reinvested in the company as well as diverse investments across the globe.

Enemies:
Sebastian's ambition and political agenda has earned him a host of powerful enemies over the years. Whether it is overthrown government leaders, ousted military leaders, rival mutants and mutant groups, Shaw has no shortage of people who would like to either see him dead or captured. As a result, Sebastian has to be very careful about who he allows near him and into his trusted circle.

Power Limits:

There is a maximum amount of energy that Sebastian an absorb, although that exact limit is unknown. Essentially, as he absorbs energy he will need to release it in some way before it becomes too much for his body to handle.

Energy like electricity can overload his limits and, when the limit is reached, he can become comatose.

In addition to becoming overloaded with energy, Sebastian also relies on having a reserve in order to utilize his other abilities. This means that if he is running low, his other abilities are greatly diminished. For example, if he has low reserves and is shot, he can take damage from the bullet. He is also susceptible to being crushed by large/heavy objects if his energy reserve is not high enough to provide the strength to endure the force.
