Profile

Mercy Thompson is a woman who straddles the human, normal world, and the more mystical side of the world. She knows there are spirits, ghosts, werewolves and other things that go bump in the night. She was raised by a pack of werewolves - where some accepted her and most did not. She left home at age eighteen and struck it out on her own. College was completed, but Mercy's passion was in fixing things, specifically cars and even more specialized Volkswagens. While it took her some time, Mercy eventually found herself the owner of Mercy's Garage, where she gets to work on all manner of cars as well as a smattering of projects just for herself. Along with the daily grind, Mercy often finds herself getting into trouble - mostly not her fault, mostly.

Description:

Mercy stands roughly 5'6" and looks to be in her late twenties. Her dark brown, nearly black, hair is pin-straight and when left unbound falls past the tops of her shoulders. Typically she wears her hair plaited into two braids; much like it is today. Both braids fall an inch or two past her shoulders and are secured by simple black hair-ties. While most would call her pretty, Mercy's features are more girl next door, than classical beauty. Her eyes are similar to her hair, but instead of being that dark brown color, they hold a lighter, warmer brown tone to them. Year round she holds a tanned look to her skin, which denotes her Native American heritage.

Her physique is of someone who definitely works out. Fit and active and with muscle along her arms and shoulders. Along with her physique is the fact that she sports a variety of tattoos. The ones that typically can be seen are those upon her arms (Celtic knots and roses) and if she's wearing a midriff baring shirt, the red coyote paw print right below her navel.

Today, Mercy wears a pair of battered mechanics overalls, upon the pocket of the overalls a name-tag can be seen that just reads 'Mercy'. Beneath those overalls she wears a simple black shirt and jeans. Upon her feet are heavy, steel-toed boots, that protect from any would-be accidents while on the job. Lastly, but not least, Mercy wears very little jewelry, about the only jewelry she wears is a gold chain, with a small gold lamb pendant upon it.

History

History:

Mercedes Athena Thompson was born out of wedlock to Margie and Joe Old Coyote, her mother was a white, Anglo woman and a fan of rodeo riding. She liked Joe enough to get pregnant with Mercy, but Joe Old Coyote was killed before Mercy was born. Born to a single, young, unwed mother, Mercy inherited her walker side from her father's lineage. This was evident when Margie found a coyote pup in Mercy's crib at three months old. Unsure what to do, or how to raise a walker, she took Mercy to a relative, who happened to be a werewolf. Mercy grew up in the Marrok's pack, in the small, wolf community of Aspen Creek, Montana. She learned about wolf pack hierarchy, and how to survive as not just a female wolf in a wolf pack, but a female outsider in a wolf pack. It was during this time she learned (and hated) the piano. She was taught lockpicking, and learned to track and hunt prey. It was during this time she was raised by her foster father, Bryan. He taught her how to defend herself, how to use a gun and make her own ammunition, drilling it into her that she needed to be able to survive, and hunt on her own. Bryan taught Mercy everything, including how to show off, safely...after he caught her imitating him rolling out of a pickup truck.. To this end, Mercy learned to use a rifle and shoot well. She was heartbroken when Bryan drowned himself in the Kootenai River after his mate didn't survive the change to becoming a werewolf, however Bryan did give Mercy his .444 Marlin rifle, that she has kept ever since. Mercy was sent away at 16.

Mercy met Warren, the first werewolf she met, on the train out of Montana, on her way out of the state.

She headed to Oregon, heading to school. Initially studying engineering, she switched her major to history, and helped her roommate with her studies in exchange for tattoo work. She graduated with her degree and began looking for work, while living with her mother in Oregon. That wasn't exactly an arrangement that worked very well, really, and it didn't last after two years, as Mercy moved out, but still visited her family on occasion. She carried on looking for work around the Northwest, and finding none, eventually headed East to New York. She just had to needle her mother by giving up her teaching dreams, a career her mother thought she'd be suited for, in order to fix cars. She was fired twice in a week, re hired and fired again by Zee, a cantankerous German fae, who came across her working in a fast food joint and rehired her. Once Zee was ready to retire (not entirely by his own choosing), he sold the garage to Mercy.

Personality

Personality:

There are many ways to describe Mercy, but perhaps some of the best words that can be used are: stubborn, caring, hardworking, loyal and curious. If she knows or thinks she's right, she'll dig her heels in against those that try to sway her judgement. If you need a batch of cookies baked for you, she's your girl. If you need a job done and done right, Mercy can help you. If you have a puzzle that needs to be solved, again, Mercy will help you solve it. Along with the 'good' part of those words are also the 'not so good'. Her stubbornness can come off as pig-headedness - she won't take crap from others. She can be sassy and sarcastic, and while she'll never break her word (purposefully) or outright lie, she will omit some of the truth so people don't realize what she's up to. Those she's earmarked as friends and family are hers, not in the werewolf territorial sense, but that they're her friends her family and she will do everything in her powers to help them - even if it's detrimental to her health. She's often quick to decide and quick to act upon the decision - patience is not a virtue she's too keen on learning right now. She sometimes has too much faith in the people she meets or puts her trust into, but that's something she'd rather not lose just yet. Either way, Mercy will always be there for those that need her, even if it's just a hug and cookie, and hopefully when she finds herself in trouble, they'll do the same for her.

Abilities

Coyote's Nose:
Mercy, as Coyote's daughter, enjoys the sense of smell and good hearing of a coyote even while she's in human form. Practically this means that she can hear a phone conversation, both sides of it, from the next room if the rooms are otherwise reasonably quiet. She can tell who someone is based on their scent, so disguises rarely work unless scent is also somehow masked. She can pick up on a person's mood through their scent and is very very good at figuring out when a lie is being told by combination of scent and hearing and body language. As a coyote her senses, sight smell and hearing, are roughly twice as good as a normal coyote's.

Enhanced Physique:
Along with the enhanced aspects of her coyote form is the fact that Mercy's human physique is likewise changed. Even as a human she has the keen senses of the coyote - her hearing, sense of smell, speed and even strength are increased. She can typically hear the sounds in the next room, or smell when someone is lying to her. For her speed and strength, this relates to her reactionary time and lifting capabilities. While she can't necessarily run at 60+ mph in human form, she is quicker than an average person. In fact, she's just above Olympic level athletes with her reactionary/reflexive actions. Her strength is similar - she can lift more than what her height and build relates. It's what has allowed her to (with effort) pick up an injured werewolf, when they can go between 200-300 pounds quite easily.

Ghosts:
Because of her heritage (child of a God), Mercy has the ability to command ghosts. This command allows her to literally tell the ghost to do something and it does it. She rarely uses this ability because commanding anyone to do her bidding doesn't sit well with her; at all. Along with commanding ghosts, she's able to see ghosts, hear ghosts and speak to them. She could ask them questions, reply to their questions and even help them cross over to the other side if they wanted it. Usually it's by telling them to go to the light, as corny as that my sound. Typically she will only speak to a ghost if it's absolutely necessary. In a non-life threatening setting, she'll normally just ignore the ghosts until it goes away.

Magic Sensing:
Because of Mercy's mystical heritage she has the ability to sense magics around her. This can be both active and inactive spells on objects, or people, places, things, etc. Of course, she's not all seeing (sensing) so there will be times that she can't necessarily sense the magic around her, simply because the practitioner is at a much higher level than herself.

Partial Magic Immunity:
Due to Mercy's mystical heritage she has the added bonus of being immune to some levels of magic. While she's not immune to everything, she is typically immune to spells that are coercion based. Mind manipulation, vampire stares, magical hypnosis, magical commands, most of the time those roll right off her coyote back. Or if the spell does work, the coercion is much less, which might allow Mercy to still resist compulsion. With everything, however, this doesn't mean she can resist all manipulation magic, especially if those practitioners or magical beings are much more powerful than she is.

Shapeshifter:

Mercy is what's known as a Walker. Practically, what it means is that in the blink of an eye she can shift from human to coyote or coyote to human. The only form she can shift to and from is coyote, and unlike werewolves she has no half-stage. As a coyote Mercy is a bit above average in height and weight, about 50 lb and about 25 inches high at the shoulder. Normally a coyote can run a max of 40-45 MPH. Being Coyote's daughter she's faster than a normal coyote and with much better endurance. She's able to run up to 60 MPH and can hold this speed for several hours before she requires rest. Mercy also enjoys better than (coyote) average sight, smell and hearing due to her unique heritage. Even in human form her sense of smell and her hearing are nearly as good as a normal coyote's.

Skills

Baking:
Mercy is an average cook and a great baker. She likes to use her baking time to help her work out anything she's struggling with. Typically when she's done baking she's either figured out what to do, how to fix it, or has put together a plan. Then of course comes the best part - eating the baked good. She usually sticks to brownies, cookies and cakes, but if she was feeling adventurous she could branch out beyond the staples.

Guns:
Mercy is a crack shot with her chosen weapons, a .444 Marlin rifle, a 9mm SIG pistol, chambered for silver rounds, a 9mm Smith and Wesson, and a .44 revolver. She can hit a moving werewolf, across a field at night, without a scope or any lights being on. She was trained by her foster father to shoot, and shoot accurately.

History:
Mercy has a bachelor's degree in History. This is for both ancient and more modern times history. While she doesn't teach, or do anything with this particular degree of hers, she still has the knowledge she learned during her college years. Her curiosity is such that she continues to research odd-n-end historical topics that pique her interest. In the end, what this means is she's good for spouting off historical facts when prompted to, or even unprompted.

Hunting and Tracking:
Mercy's animal form is a coyote with all its senses and abilities. Combine that with how she was raised (in a wolf pack) and she's generally a great hunter and tracker. She knows all about following scent trails, animal paw prints and even the broken bits of grass, or small tree limbs that can typically be found. She's also great at hunting the two-legged prey as well, via smell, sound of breathing/heartbeat and trail. Those that are better at hiding their trail, scent, sounds, would of course allude her, but for others that are at her level or below, she'd likely be able to track them fine.

Languages:
Mercy's native tongue is English, but along the way she's also learned to read, write and speak German. She has a smattering of words in various languages, as well as some in the various dialects that Blackfoot Indians speak.

Martial Arts:
Mercy has been training in martial arts from a young age. She primarily trains in the martial arts that helps her deal with fighting against more than one opponent. Currently, in her dojo, she's a purple belt. So neither a beginner, but not yet an expert. This means she can usually handle herself when she's dealing with those sort of thugs that don't know how to fight. For those that do, it just depends on their skill level and hers. If they're at her level she has the potential to hold off two, possibly three, before help either arrives, or she finds a way to run away. The higher the skill the less amount of people she'd be able to hold off.

Mechanic:

Being a mechanic is a combination of knowing what to do, having the skill to do it and also the brute strength. Her garage isn't a terribly fancy thing. She has one auto lift, one diagnostic computer to talk to the more 'smart cars' out there and then her more mundane tools (wrench, hammer, drill, etc.). Along with her tools is really the knowledge she has when it comes to cars. Her specialty is Volkswagen, but in reality she can work on just about any normal, run of the mill car. Along with her mechanical skills is the fact that she also re-builds cars as a side hobby for herself. It helps to keep her skills and knowledge sharp, as well as gives her something to work on when nothing else will do.

Child of Coyote:
Mercy is now aware that she's a daughter of Coyote and not fully mortal. She's what one would call a demigod, half mortal, half god. As such, this affords her some advantages. She'll have a longer lifespan, as well as the ability to call upon her father for questions, aid, or possibly more. The only caveat here, is what she might receive from Old Coyote. He's a god of chaos and while he sees his children in a paternal light, that doesn't mean he won't give them half answers, or tricky things. In the end Old Coyote is playing the long game, even if Mercy herself can't see it.

Mercy's Garage:
Mercy is the owner and mechanic of Mercy's Garage. While the garage isn't rolling in the money it does well enough that Mercy can afford more than just the basics of living. She can afford food, clothing and a few luxury items with enough planning and budgeting. She only has a few thousand in her bank account, but again, it's enough for her as she continues to grow her mechanic business.

The Pack:
While she's a very independent sort of woman she knows if she really needed the help she could go home to her old pack. It would be awkward and uncomfortable and maybe just a bit embarrassing, but they'd be there for her. She could call upon them for food, aid, shelter, just about everything. The reverse is true for them as well; if they needed help, shelter, food, she'd give it over in a heartbeat.

Vehicles:
Mercy has a pair of vehicles, a VW diesel Rabbit and a Vanagon Syncro four wheel drive VW van

Weapons:

Mercy owns a collection of weapons. There's her .444 Marlin rifle, for which she knows how to make her own ammo. There's her .44 revolver, there's her 9mm Smith and Wesson, chambered for silver, and her 9mm SIG handgun.

Weaknesses

Enemies:
Mercy has a habit of attracting enemies due to getting involved in trouble. These range from your common thugs all the way up to vampires and even malevolent ghosts. She's not liked by vampires, and werewolves, among others.

Then there's also those who wish to hurt Mercy to hurt her father, or take what little power she has away from her. Lastly there's her father who likes to make her life 'interesting', a trait he does with his other children as well.

Magical Critter:
While it's hard to sniff out Mercy's coyote or magical side, if someone knows specifically to look for the skinwalker magic, they'd be able to figure out what she is. It's not a main concern for Mercy, but it's something that can still come back to bite her in the butt.

Not Powerful:
Unlike other magical critters, Mercy isn't all that strong. She can sense magic, see ghosts, ignore some magical coercion spells and shapeshift into mostly normal coyote. Against others, like werewolves, she doesn't have much powers and that could be a problem when she finds herself in hot water. Thankfully, she's quick on her feet and smart to compensate for the lack of actual physical /power/.

Trouble Magnet:

Mercy is a trouble magnet. She'd like to pretend it's not her fault, but, in reality it is. She just can't help sticking her nose out to help people; especially those she's tagged as friends and family. She'll happily (or perhaps blindly) jump into a problem with very little thought, or consideration for what the potential fall-out might be.
