Profile
The son of a Navy Seal who was injured in combat, Ron Griffin was determined to be a hero, like his father. The discovery of his mutant powers helped give focus to his dream.

Small and rather plain looking, but amazingly fit. Ron is quiet and often overlooked, but moves quietly and gracefully, a tell-tale to those who know that he possesses martial training.
History

Ronald Griffin always wanted to be like his father, a Tall, Brave, and skilled Navy Seal. Unfortunately he took after is mother, who was small and intelligent. Unfortunately being small, plain in appearance, and smart also made him less than popular in school. Early on it made him a target for bullies, but his father trained him in self defense and he soon gained some respect if few real friends.
He turned to training in Martial Arts and Gymnastics...in the latter suggested by his mother because in Gymnasts small size is an asset. He did very well, though he also had to keep his grades up because school policy requires good grades of those participating in extracurricular activities. He was being considered for the Olympic team in gymnastics and was just finishing his finals, hoping for a scholarship so he could get to college, and was also in the finals in the state-wide MMA tournament...so he was under a lot of pressure when he vanished. He spent a long time blind and lost and getting hotter and hotter...and being invisible others could not find him either (though he did not realize he was invisible for some time).
He was found by a fellow mutant, Jojo the Clown, a mutant with the power to locate other mutants who was a member of a circus of other mutants. He spent years with them learning to control his powers and learning the skills of the various acts in the show. He first learned Slight of Hand and Escapology from the magician so as to be able to cover his ability to disappear, also the tricks of a stage mind reader once his thought reading talents started to manifest. He used his previous gymnastic training to work with the tight-rope walkers and aerialists. He learned from the Knife Thrower and the Jugglers how to throw nearly anything in a controlled manner. He learned from the ventriloquist how to throw his voice. Most of all, he learned how NOT to use his powers when doing any of this. Only when he had full control of his powers did he finally return home.
He gave his parents a story about having cracked under stress and having realized he needed to simplify his life, had run off to join the circus like a child in a story. This was close enough to the truth, though he left out the mutant powers part when telling the story.
Having been trained how not to use his powers, he kept them hidden and did not use them...though he was filled with a determination to be a hero, like his father. He chose police work, reading mysteries and studying CSI shows almost from the moment his powers were enough under control to think about returning home.
He managed to get into the Police Academy and became a Detective in Gotham City shortly after reaching the minimum age. He soon discovered the limitations of the police, and eventually chose to use his powers and skills to help bring Justice where the hands of the law might be tied. Early on, he encountered an inventor who was being pressured to build special gear for an organized crime family. After helping the inventor out, the inventor helped him with some custom gear.

Personality

What Ron admits to himself that he wants is to be a hero, which he considers being willing to risk himself to help those in need. This is why he joined the Police force...and why he goes out secretly to right wrongs the police will not. What he does not admit to himself is that he craves respect and acceptance and part of him revels at the praise he gets. Some would say he has an Inferiority Complex, he is small and plain looking and even his powers are unremarkable, so he has something to prove.

HEAR THOUGHTS
Ron is a limited telepath, only able to hear the surface thoughts of those nearby. The range of this ability is generally about thirty feet, though a person with training may muffle their thoughts and one who is trying to project or is exceptionally excited may be heard at longer distances. Because his mind is normally open, stronger telepaths can effect his mind with relative ease. For Ron, hearing thoughts is much like his normal hearing, he hears everyone nearby unless he "blocks his ears" and can need to concentrate to make out one voice from a crowd.
INVISIBILITY
Ron has the ability to become completely invisible, he can not be seen by visible light, infrared heat sensors, ultraviolet scanners, or even radio-based radar. No form of electromagnetic radiation will reveal him, though he still is solid to the touch, has a distinct scent, and has a heartbeat that can be detected by those with keen senses. He can maintain this state for extended periods, but generally has to be awake and spend some concentration to do so. He can not turn only partly transparent, he is either visible or not. When invisible, he also can not see, as light passes through him without interacting with his eyes. Because he does not emit heat while invisible, his body will build up heat. Eventually he would suffer heat prostration or even heat stroke, which could prove fatal, if he was somehow unable to return to a visible state.
PSYCHIC CAMOUFLAGE
If Ron turns off his Hear Thoughts and Psychic Radar, he can hide his mind...not create a shield but more like making his invisibility effect telepathy. If he is also using physical invisibility, he is totally blind.
PSYCHIC RADAR
Ron can send out pulses of psychic energy that react with surfaces nearby, creating a kind of echo he can use to guide himself. He can sense his surroundings with fair precision at a range of thirty feet, being able to resolve an object the size of a pencil at that range, beyond that range an object must be progressively larger to be detected, by 60 feet something the size of a basketball can barely be sensed. Much beyond that and this sense becomes useless. This sense can be blocked by multiple surfaces, such as rain, snow, or sandstorms. This sense can not detect color or print that is not raised. The impulses produced by this sense are easily detectable by telepaths and some other psychic senses when active. He can turn this power off in order to make his mind seem like that of a normal human, or to rest as the power does take a slight effort. He generally only uses this power when Invisible or in other conditions where he can not see.

ACROBAT
While Ron did work with the professional acrobats in the circs, he was only a part timer and is not as good as a professional circus acrobat like Nightcrawler or Nightwing. Ron still might qualify for a place on the Olympic team if he wanted to try.
BLIND MANEUVER
Ron's invisibility developed first, and sometimes manifested without control as mutant powers are known to do. He had to learn to do things without being able to see by necessity. Even since he developed his psychic senses, he is not able to use them constantly and finds it necessary to work without them on occasion. As a result, he is good at using his other senses to handle himself when he can not see. Someone who is blind all the time, especially those blind since birth, will be better at this, but he is far better than most sighted people.
DETECTIVE
Ron is a young but well trained Police Detective. He knows about Crime Scene Investigation, questioning witnesses, preserving evidence, and rational deduction. He is, however, not as well trained in forensics and may miss clues that other detectives (like the bat family) would not.
ESCAPE ARTIST
Ron is a skilled escape artist, able to bend and contort to get out of most bindings and able to pick locks with his hands, feet, or even with a lock pick held between his teeth. Perhaps not quite up to processional stage magician level, he is at least a skilled amateur.
FITNESS
Ron is exceptionally fit, able to lift three times his weight, able to run a Marathon (and finish in the top ten), with excellent reflexes and coordination. He is not superhuman physically, but is certainly a well trained athlete.
MARTIAL ARTIST
Trained from an early age to take care of himself, due to his father not wanting him picked on for his small size, Ron has excelled in martial arts training. He can break boards or even bricks, and can defeat foes larger and stronger than himself. He is not quite up to the standards of some of the finer heroic combatants, but is capable of competing in MMA tournaments and occasionally winning.
STEALTH
Ron possibly relies a bit too much on his invisibility, but is still well above average at hiding and moving quietly.
THROWING
Ron is very good at throwing knives, he can juggle up to a dozen knives of similar size and weights and can hit a target that he has memorized with his eyes closed with a thrown knife. He is somewhat less good if throwing other things, but can throw axes or even juggle chainsaws and burning torches...though only a few of those. He still has a bit of trouble juggling objects of mixed heft and weight and would rarely try more than three of such objects at a time.
VEHICLES
Ron can handle a car, motorcycle, a small sail boat, small oar powered boat, or small motorboat. He can not currently handle most other vehicles.
VOICE THROWING
Ron is skilled at making his voice sound like it is coming from some place other than where he is physically. It is useful to trick enemies into shooting where he is not. Granted, the place his voice appears to be coming from pretty much has to be within ten feet of his actual location, but it is often enough to give him an edge.

His gear is pretty standard stuff really, a utility belt with things like flash-bangs, caltrops, grappling lines, lock picks, evidence kits, throwing knives, and handcuffs. A set of light flexible armor that would probably not help much against a strong blunt attack or any direct hit by a bullet heavier than a light handgun, but knives and grazing bullets should not give him more than bruises and it should not slow him down. A good motorcycle usable both on and off road. He relies more on skill and powers than gear.
INVENTOR ALLY
While this ally is never involved in adventures, he creates gear for Ron at a relatively cheap price. Any and all gear should be approved by staff, and is not going to be super high tech, magic, or similarly fancy...he creates plain solid and useful items.
MUTANT CARNIES
While he is no longer a part of the circus, his friends from the circus may possibly be useful allies or call on him for help. His friends include Galen the Magician, capable of teleporting objects or creatures weighing less that twenty pounds as far as a hundred feet if he knows where they are. Kratos the Strongman, who has actual super strength to the point of being able to lift about 5 tons but is rather slow physically and is a pacifist. Feather the Aerialist who can levitate. Johan the Knife thrower has minor magnetic powers he can use to control small metal objects, like his knives. Madame Sonia the Medium, whose mutant sonic power lets her copy nearly any sound and whose skill at voice throwing lets her have the sounds seem to come from anywhere in her tent. Jojo the Clown, the mutant detector who found the and brought them together. Unfortunately the circus is rarely in town, being a travelling show, so they should only be used with staff permission.
NEW YORK CITY POLICE
The New York City Police Department is large...but is still overworked and underpaid. This leads to some police being corrupt, other having a god complex, and still other suffering burnout whose judgement is suspect. However there are still many who are idealistic or at least honest and hard working. Ron knows who can be trusted with what (at least in his precinct and some of the surrounding ones). He knows who to give evidence he "acquires" to in order for it to actually be used. Rarely does he use it himself, no more often than anyone else (this is intentional, he does not want to be seen as a favored contact of his alter ego). He knows fairly well who to call if he needs something that the police SHOULD be involved in.

Ron has a crippled father, and also has a mother and a younger sister. He cares about them and it could cause trouble if anyone happened to threaten them.

Ron has few friends and fewer lovers. His mind reading tends to mean he knows if someone actually cares, and also if someone is lying to him or manipulating him. It is possible someone could manipulate him emotionally if they could hide their mind from him or project a convincing false front.
NYPD OFFICER
Ron has a job, and thus has responsibilities. He is not always free to go out being heroic when he is on an assignment. He is also honest, and has a strong sense of right and wrong. Would he kill a gunman shooting into a crowd, if it would save the innocent then he would...but he would not kill a politician just because he is crooked. He has trouble making ends meet, given the relative pay of an officer and rent in NYC, but will not take bribes...or even take gifts from those he has helped.

Ron's mind us unable to shield itself as most other telepaths can. He has a degree of psychic integrity...meaning he does not simply become a reflection of the thoughts around him. However he always can hear those thoughts, the best he can do is muffle them so they are not clear or try to focus on one set of thoughts over others. Other telepaths can easily read or attack his mind, though, given his ability to maintain his mental integrity, long term mental changes tend not to last.
