Due to the publicity of the events of Yamatai Island (and the death of celebrity James Whitman) it is not hard for someone to 'know of' the name of Lara Croft. She's been labelled by the media as a modern day 'Indiana Jones' and though it has died down as of late many have sought her out for interviews and attempted deals to tell her story in other formats such as television and movies, though Lara has made no such deals and turns down any offers for interviews.

HISTORY of a TOMB RAIDER
Early Life (A Failed Family):
Lara was born, as the only child of Lord Richard and Amelia Croft. After her mother died in a tragic plane crash, Lara's father spent much time away or secluded in his private office within their home.
Lara was alone as a child, and found solace in books, which fuelled a lust for adventure. Though, her father would occasionally take her along on his expeditions, he was often too busy to pay attention to his daughter, due to the grief that struck him after the death of his beloved Amelia. Lara became an orphan after her father's apparent suicide and it's further altered her personality toward being an isolated person, afraid of letting anyone in.
She was left in the charged of her father's friend, Conrad Roth, who she had a surrogate father-daughter relationship. Though Roth's world travelling ways kept him away for extended periods of time, Lara was left alone for much of her early life.
College Years (University College London:
Once of age, Lara decided that she wanted to earn her own way, uninterested in the legacy of her deceased parents and wishing to get away from her mother's extended family. She would apply to the University College London (U.C.L.) in hopes of achieving this goal of making herself independent of anyone else. This decision required her to pay her tuition and rent by working multiple jobs. Although this was a tougher choice, it helped Lara become more grounded, down to earth and level-headed than she might otherwise have been.
Shortly after starting University at U.C.L., Lara met Samantha Nishimura. Lara was initially taken aback by Sam's outgoing personality, though she soon became her best friend (the first she'd ever had). It was because of Sam's free spirit and wild streak that Lara was able to experience much more of London than just the universities and museums that she loved so much, and as a result started coming out of her shell and making more friends.
Post-College (Yamatai Island):
Lara's mentor, Conrad Roth, was contracted to assist television archaeologist James Whitman on an expedition to find the mythical Japanese island of Yamatai. Their ship, the 'S.S. Endurance' was crashed during the search and most of the crew was lost in the ravaging storm. The ship had crashed into the harbour of Yamatai and Lara (along with many other crew members) were left to survive on an island inhabited by crazed cultist ritualists. It was on this island that Lara had to learn to kill to survive. Having witnessed a great many awful, and wondrous things on Yamatai, Lara has become a re-forged woman. She sees now that her father's archaeological obsessions held more merit than many had previously given him credit for, she included. As a result it's become a new-found fire within her, to try to solve the work of her father and search the world high-and-low to explain what she saw on the island of Yamatai.
Lara is currently in the United States, staying in an apartment in Manhattan, and she is attending court-ordered therapy sessions following the legalities that surrounded the aftermath of the Yamatai Incident.
The 'incident' made headlines across the world due to the death of the popular T.V. show adventurer James Whitman and though Lara was not held accountable for any of that, she was determined to be suffering from a great deal of P.T.S.D. and part of the settlement was for her to receive counselling for as long as two-years (pending the recommendation of her counsellor).
Publicly Lara was heralded as a hero by her fellow survivors who were interviewed by the Press after their recovery. They all spoke of how it was she who kept them from perishing during the supposed horrors of the strange lost island and that without her, no one from the SS Endurance would have ever been heard from again.
Today (New York):
Not wanting to return to her family home in London, Lara has taken up residence in America with her friends Samantha and Jonah. She's attending the counselling sessions and has become obsessed with her father's legacy. She believes he was on the verge of a major discovery and she wants to continue his studies / research and pick up where he left off.
She has also become enthralled with a need for death-defying adrenaline. Since Yamatai, it has become hard for her to stay focused without a source of heart pounding action to calm her spirit and re-centre her focus.
She has gone on additional archaeological adventures because of this, though none of them have been quite as exhilarating (and insane) as what took place on Yamatai, however she has big plans ahead, more research to do and hopes of finding more answers in this wild world.
