A tall Caucasian woman, Karen Page has long strawberry blonde hair that at times looks light red in the right light. Her eyes are large and pale blue, giving her an innocent or wide-eyed resting expression. Her hair is left down and is slightly curled.

Karen Page was born and raised in Vermont where she was a straight A student and a generally normal kid. After the death of her younger brother in a car accident, she was unable to stay in Vermont. Instead, she moved to New York City. To support herself, she took a job at Union Allied Construction where she worked as a secretary.

One day, she was accidentally forwarded an email that held damning evidence about her employer's money laundering schemes. Unsure of what to do with this information, she came forward to a coworker in the legal department of the company who she thought could help her. Over drinks, she was drugged and woke up in her apartment covered in his blood and holding a knife. The police kicked the door in shortly thereafter and she was framed for his murder.

Luckily for Karen, two upstart lawyers took her case: Foggy Nelson and Matthew Murdock despite her inability to pay them. In the night, once she was returned to jail, a police officer entered her cell and attempted to strangle her to death with a sheet. Able to claw her way out, she screamed for help, managing to escape with her life. She was released under the watch of Nelson and Murdock for her own safety. Despite her desire to return to her home, they insisted that he stay with Matt so that she would not be alone and vulnerable to another attack. However, during the night, she slipped out to retrieve a flashdrive that contained the information that people wished to kill her over.

While there, she was attacked by another assassin who attempted to kill her. He would have succeeded, but a masked man - the man that would soon be called the Devil of Hell's Kitchen - intervened and saved her life. He took the flashdrive and gave it to the New York Bulletin, which then printed the story and cleared Karen of all charges. Grateful to Nelson and Murdock for their help, she offered to pay back her debt by being their secretary and work for them for free.
