Profile

Country boy at heart and a cowboy through and through. Cherokee lineage grants him the power to touch the wild and draw it to him. A stand out athlete in several disciplines, but a world champion bull rider. He has a knack for making things work that shouldn't. Description:

Taller than average, this man is right at the six feet tall. He clearly works hard and has an athlete's build weighing over two hundred pounds. Mid-back length, dark brown hair is caught in a loose ponytail and peeks out from under a black cowboy hat. His blue eyes sparkle with intelligence and not a little bit of "devil may care" attitude. A well-kept beard and mustache match his hair color and helps to accent a smirk that is hard to ignore.

A loose fitting, black sleeveless shirt covers his upper body, arms bulging out of the shirt by design. Suns out, guns out. Dark blue Wrangler jeans fit right for everyday living or a long day of riding. A brown leather belt laces through the loops and is held closed with a gold and silver belt buckle that reads: National Finals Rodeo World Bull Riding Champion. Hanging on the belt is a black leather pouch with a folding lock blade knife inside it. Behind that pouch is another, brown leather bag with unknown contents. Lastly, a pair of well shined black cowboy boots appear at the bottom of the jeans, the upper part of the boots lost inside the jeans.

History

History:

• 2000: Born and raised in rural Missouri.
  *2005: Sent to live with grandfather on a family ranch when parents die in a plane crash.
  *2006: Discovers his first love: junior Rodeo.
  *2010: Started wrestling and playing football in junior leagues. Begins the Scouts (Cub, Boy, and Eagle Scouts in turn)
  *2012: Grandfather begins to teach him the "family magic" that focuses magics into the user through animal totems. His grandfather forbids him to use them for anything until told otherwise. He does try, usually.
  *2015: Discovered a talent in sciences, but not outstanding anywhere else academically. Chemistry and Physics become a hobby and learns to do things with it that the teacher never meant to be done.
  *2018: High school star athlete: Wrestling, Football, and Rodeo. College recruiters contact him for wrestling.
  *2019: Graduates high school. He chooses to go pro bull riding. Beating the odds, he makes his way to the National Finals Rodeo his rookie year and wins the title of Bull Riding Champion.
  *2020: Retires from active rodeo on top. He's done everything he needs to do in his mind. He is approached by Wrangler jeans with a lucrative ad campaign offer and he spends several months taking pictures and showing up at parties, being paid for all of it. Investments of his winnings as well as the money from his modeling contract helped him raise his financial status. He isn't rich enough to retire, but can live comfortably between jobs.
  *2021 Rather than try to go to college, he spends the next two years training to be a firefirghter, paramedic, and rescue.
  *2023: Went to work in fire and rescue in the Kansas City, Missouri area. Works hard, makes strides, and gets to be well known in the area.
  *2029: Temporarily dispatched to the east coast for a time to help under-staffed hospitals, but he plans to return to Missouri as soon as possible. Plans don't always work out the way you want so time will tell.

Personality:

An extroverted would-be charmer that has more friends than enemies. He does have a few detractors like anyone else. He does his best to play the ladies man. His hits and misses are about the same consistency. Suffering from the proverbial "doesn't know a stranger" personality can get him into trouble sometimes, but it is also makes him good at his job when the stress is high.

If he sees you as friend or family, then you are part of his tribe and he will stand by you no matter what. Whatever he does in the world, he does it with focus and determination to do it better than anyone else.

Abilities

Magic:

Jacen was trained to call upon the ancient magics of his tribe. His family's responsibility in the world is to protect the First Nations and the world in general with the abilities granted to them. He uses the power of totem spirit animals to enhance his physical attributes. Each totem animal spirit has a focus for the ability that helps, but he can use his power without them at the cost of duration and potency.

Vision: Distance and clarity are improved. Night vision can be achieved as well. (focus: Hawk's feather)

Hearing: Enhanced and Increased auditory range in distance and volume. (focus: Wolf's skin medicine pouch)

Smell: His sense of smell is enhanced for tracking and analyzing scent. (focus: Wolf's skin medicine pouch)

Strength: Amplified physical strength (focus: Bear's teeth necklace)

Speed: Increased running speed and reflexes (focus: Mountain Lion's tooth)

Durability: A thickening of skin that turns most projectiles and blades (focus: Bear's teeth necklace)

Healing: Accelerated healing that allows superficial wounds close in seconds to minutes, lacerations or worse wounds heal overnight, life threatening wounds take at least 24 hours to heal fully, though immediate dangers close up like lacerations (focus: Snake skin hat band)

Sensory powers are similar in strength to Wolverine making him almost a walking crime lab, though he doesn't have that sort of inclination. His strength, reflexes, and healing rivals Spider-Man, but not equal to. Physical durability is on par with Luke Cage. Running speed is close to 80 mph.

Skills

Athlete:
A natural athlete in the best of crowds, some people learn it and some people are just born with it. He took the opportunity afforded to him by natural talent to work, train, and study everything he could about the sports he excelled at: wrestling and bill riding.
His understanding of Physics changed the world of sports for him. He always understood that a particular movement would cause a reaction, now he understood why as well. Once math formulas fade into daily use, people use Physics every day and they don't even know it. When something moves, Physics explains the how and why. %
Jacen was offered a scholarship to a local university for wrestling, but instead he opted to be a professional bull rider. He is in peak physical condition and stronger than average. His center of gravity is second to none. His balance is difficult to shake considering the amount of time he's spent concentrating on it for wrestling and bull riding.
He isn't an expert at every sport by any means, but he has played all the common team sports available in American school settings. It doesn't take him long to pick up the basics and he is usually competent after one game, more confident after two. Jacen is the definition of 'the first kid picked' at any sport.

Common Sense:
Common sense. It is a blessing and a curse all at the same time. Those who have it have to tolerate those that don't. It can be insufferable. It is a super-power in its own way. Jacen has had some exceptional life experiences to help focus good sense. He might not know why he understands certain things, but he does. He'll never be Einstein or president, but he knows how to survive in the real world and that's more than many can claim.

Paramedic Fire Rescue:
Life Saver: A dedicated paramedic, Jacen's first most dedicated professional skill is that of an in the field life saver. If I person can't survive transport to advanced medical care, all the doctors and nurses in the world won't matter. He keeps those skills sharp, making sure to get further education on new techniques and staying sharp by teaching others at times.

Rescue: Jacen grew up in the country life. The nearest city to him was almost 75 miles away. Like most kids he grew up hunting and fishing for fun. It's not anything that he dedicated his life to, just something he did for relaxation. In the process he learned the basics of tracking. Going through Rescue training he honed those skills with a little bit of survival training as well. You must be able to go deep into the wilds at times when finding the missing and you don't grow up in a Cherokee's home without being able to live off the land. You can't help them if you can't survive yourself. Again, he's not some super prepper, he just knows how to find or make shelter, find food and water, and most importantly how to search for missing people in the woods.

Firefighter: All part of the life of an emergency worker. Fire suppression is one part skill and one part nerve. There is no room for hesitation. Fire science is something that takes time to learn and understand. His knowledge of chemistry and physics aided him in surviving the very complicated book learning classes involved. Strength and balance aided him in the physical aptitudes and disciplines. He keeps that certification current as well, staying up to date on all the required classifications and physical requirements.

Riding:
If it has hair and four legs he can ride it. Jacen is a natural horseman and a world champion bull rider. Whether riding a bull in front of millions worldwide or taking a simple pleasure ride through the woods, this is where he excels above all. When you grow up from a young age on horseback, there are few that can do it any better.

Science:
While he is far from an exceptional student, Jacen did find two subjects in high school that he was good at and didn't struggle through constantly. Nobody, including him, could understand how the academically barely there was able to grasp Chemistry and Physics, but they both came easy to him. The subjects made sense in his mind and that is what got him through with good grades and knowledge that stayed with him.

Practical application of the two became a hobby frowned upon by most. It usually involved explosions, smoke, fire, or jury rigged mechanism of suspect quality that always seemed to work just long enough. He was referred to, at times, as the redneck MacGyver since he always had a less than conventional way to make something work.

Wrestling:

A standout wrestler in high school, Jacen made a mark in the state level. He never achieved a state champion title, he was in the hunt all four years of high school. He made it to the finals junior and senior year, but no matter how good you are there is always someone better. His rival was the same age as he is so they aged out together.

He is difficult to take off his feet and very good at taking other people off of their feet. He is an expert at keeping someone down on the ground until he sees fit to let them up again. His ability makes him an MMA coach's dream. Six months dedicated to kickboxing and learning submissions would make him ideal for that world. It is easier to train a striker than a wrestler.

Nfr World Champion:
Jacen is a world champion bull rider. He has the belt buckle, a little fame, the aches, the pain, and the payouts to prove it. Most of the money he won was used to help with his education and the rest is being placed against the purchase of a ranch in the future.

Paramedic Rescue Fire:
Jacen makes a living doing work in Emergency response. In a city the size of New York, he can find plenty of hospitals to work PRN so he doesn't have to settle for any one place. He can take a day off when he wants to, by just not agreeing to work a shift. Sometimes he will work at concerts or sporting events as on-site medic for the venue. He doesn't hurt for money, but he has plans and they require money.

Wrangler Jeans Ad:

After his NFR championship, Jacen took some time to work for Wrangler jeans. He worked as a model and the would be "face of the company" for a brief time. The money he made from that he used to live on while he studied fire and rescue and earn multiple state certifications. The remainder is drawing interest to become a large down payment on a ranch when he gets to that point.

Weaknesses

Impulse Control:
Jacen is prone to knee jerk reactions. Could be he is just a little unhinged or maybe it's just the cowboy way. At best, this can lead to general hilarity, At worst, general stupidity. It's unlikely anyone is going to get hurt, other than him.

Magic:
Using more than one sensory power at a time can overwhelm him. The use of more than one physical is possible, but it cuts the duration time in half and exhausts him more the longer he uses them. A physical power and a sensory power can be used consecutively without issue.

Each totem has a personality, and they all have their own code. If they feel like he is abusing his power, they will not respond to his call. The bear is always ready for a fight, willing to flex his strength. The wolf might decide not to answer the call should he just intend to eaves drop at someone at the next table for fun. If he tries to draw one of them to him for self-harm or the harm of an innocent, none of them will answer for days no matter how urgent it might be.

Overconfident:

In the immortal words of another hero: Confidence is good, cockiness will kill you. That is one of the troubles of being a minor celebrity in certain circles and very good at too many things. This gets into his life in many instances and can be detrimental at times.
