On her world, Tatum was an up and coming cellist, already working for the NY Philharmonic as their their third chair cellist and being watched keenly for what she would do with her talents. On her world, she taught music for Xavier's Institute for Gifted Youngsters. On her world, she was a member of the X-Men. On her world, she helped to run a halfway house for mutants that were victims of human trafficking. But here, in this world that she found herself placed in by the mischievous whim of some intergalactic intelligence, Tatum was never even born. Tatum finds herself with no money, no car, none of the people she knew, and worst of all? NO CELLO!!

Description:

A young woman in her early twenties, her 5'4" frame has the sort of build one would expect from a dancer or martial artist; lithe, slim, and graceful. Her icy pale blue eyes watch the world around her with a mixture of distrust and amusement, the quirk of her smile causing the amusement to appear more prevalent. There is no denying that she's attractive, her appearance striking in a modern day Morticia Addams sort of way; pale and dark in direct contrast to each other. Her black hair falls down her shoulders, curling at the ends, with wisps of a vibrant hue peeking out from within.

She seems to favour a goth-like appearance, going for dark colours. Like her hair though, the black is always mingled with some bright colour, keeping her from looking too gloomy. Buckles, lace, mesh, straps, and other adornments provide an eclectic style that while imitated is never duplicated, even by her from outfit to outfit. Her petite height is accentuated by the fact that she is almost always seen in high heeled boots, which she walks in with a confidence that insinuates her familiarity with them. Her clothes tend to go for form-fitting, with corsets and skinny jeans that look like they were painted on.

Overall, this young woman's appearance is that of a goth who hasn't succumbed to despair or ennui, letting a little of the colour that is still inside her show through.

History

History:
Tatum started off life happily enough. Her mother was the beneficiary of a pharmacutical company that had performed experiments on her in college. When Tatum's mother, Annabeth, got pregnant during the experiments, the pharmecutical company used this to their advantage to monitor the effects of the drug on the infant. Tatum was monitored weekly for any lasting effects of having been under the effects of the drug in vitro, subjected to physical, mental and social testing.

Unknown to her mother, or Tatum, the pharmecutical company was a front for Hydra, trying to use women as an incubator for super soldiers. While the experiment took over 50 years to perfect, it had finally worked. The run of the experiment was T-13 and Tatum was one of 20 children that were born with super powers that were all of the unobtrusive sort, luck manipulation, charm, power negation or augmentation. However, because all the powers were so subtle, Hydra assumed the experiment failed and cut off funding, leaving Tatum and her mother destitute. Annabeth turned to drink and her mental health started to deteriorate. Tatum turned to music, starting to learn the cello, as well as building an emotional wall of sarcasm and disdain.

Years later, a young goth who was angry at life and bearing a sizable chip on her shoulder discovered her power and was found by members of the X-Men. unfortunately, this put her back on Hydra's radar as well as a terrorist group based in Central America.

The terrorists and the X-Men vied for Tatum's dedication. But it was when Tatum learned the truth of her powers and her origins that her alliegance was made. Hydra was capturing the T-13 teens and had imprisoned many. The X-Men were, for their own reasons, not willing to help free the Mutates. The terrorists were more than willing to help. Tatum's decision was made.

Having freed her experimental brethren, Tatum broke off with the X-Men, arranging with Xavier an institute for people like herself and the T-13 Mutates that was more of a rehabilitation work program then an educational institute. Needing funding to do this, Tatum went to Tony Stark. Her presentation impressed him enough, well impressed Pepper Potts enough, that she was given a 5 million dollar grant for what lovingly became known as Nancy's Nest of Normalacy, due to her nullification field where they could be 'normal' while getting their lives back in order. The grant was for 5 years, to be reassessed at that time for further funding.

Tatum was put in charge of The Nest, but at 19 she was overcome with the responsability. It was during this time of trying desperately to cope with far too much responsibility for the lives and welfare of over 20 people, that Tatum met Starfire and her team and was asked to join. Tatum discovered she had a knack for diplomacy, which surprised her just as much as it surprised anyone else and was starting to enjoy her time, as well as the tech, with the Outsiders.

But as was said, the responsibility of the Nest was growing too stressful and Tatum, in an impulsive moment, caught a ride with a passing starship that she contacted through the HMSS Starfire. A year and a half later, she returned, feeling guilty for having run away from her responsibilities.

Older now, and wiser, Tatum understood that the Nest no longer needed her. She had abandoned them and they had moved on without her, though they still worked on her vision for the Nest. Tatum turned to X-Men, not really expecting them to take her back in. To her surprise, they did with welcome arms, even giving her a job with the school as a music teacher. She became part of the team and grew happy, finding she preferred the role of one of a team rather then the head of one.

Tatum's happiness was not to last long however. Coming home from her work with the NY Philharmonic, Tatum had just finised packing her things in the car when a huge disembodied alien head appeared before her. With only the words "Oh yes, you'll do nicely," Tatum was bombarded with pain, light and sound. When she finally came to,

With only the words "Oh yes, you'll do nicely," Tatum was bombarded with pain, light and sound. When she finally came to, she was laying on the floor of the parkade, however her car was now gone! She reached into her jacket to phone the police about the theft, only to find that her phone just would not connect to either the internet or to phone service. When she went to an ATM to take out money for a cab, the ATM claimed some sort of garbage about her card not existing in the system and to refer to her branch.

Unknown to Tatum, the alien had transported her to a different reality. Having been from Earth 626, she was now on Earth 2025. A reality in which HYDRA never performed the experiments that created her. In this reality, Tatum had never existed. It was also 8 years in the future from what she knew. She is now here, in a world that seems almost identical to her own, with no car, no money, no phone and worse NO CELLO!!!

Personality

Personality:

Tatum is a study in paradox. While she appears to be overtly lascivious, crass, cynical, and full of bravado and confidence, this could not be further from the truth. Tatum has a low self-esteem that she hides behind a wall of sexual innuendo and devil may care attitude. She is driven to succeed, not due to any reason other then she feels compelled to be as good as people seem to think she is. She is constantly worried that if people see her as she truly is, that they will want nothing to do with her.

Abilities

Empathic Transmission:
No one is actually aware that Tatum has this power, as it is so subtle that it has never been noticed. It does, however, account for some of her extreme excellence in music. Yes, she practices daily. Yes, she is very good at her music. But getting into both Juilliard and the New York Philharmonic on her first audition? Not even Yo-Yo Ma was that good and he had been training since he was 5.

Tatum is able, when playing an instrument, to cause her audience to feel what she wants them to feel. She has always been a very emotional person, putting her emotions into her playing, and so this power has always been attributed to the fact that she is just that excellent a player. And while she is good, this power has helped her along her way.

Power Negation:

Tatum controls an aura of what she refers to as her 'dead zone'. Within this aura of effect, Tatum has the ability to negate any kind of power no matter what its origin is, whether it is mutant, metahuman, alien, psionic or magic based. Some very powerful individuals(EFC) will only be weakened or dampened by her field. Some physical effects such as being thin may also occur depending on the nature of the power that has been negated. While the natural size of this effect is a 3m (10ft) radius sphere, she has learned to control it so it stays within a field about her body that is within a few inches in a more condensed field. She is also able to push her field to a much larger area effect, able to grow her field to 10m (33ft).
She has learned over time to be able to 'target' her field by making it an ellipsys and using the axis to envelope her target. However, it is still a field effect and anyone entering the now thin line of the ellipsis will be effected.

Cellist:
Tatum is an extremely talented cellist. Considering she never picked up the instrument until high school, how naturally she took to it is nothing short of amazing. She managed to get accepted into Juilliard on her first attempt and was soon the top of her class. She has her Batchelor of Music, with Strings being her focus. She has been referred to by those that are in the music world as the next great cellist, compared to those such as Ma, Rostropovich and Cassals.

Combat Trained:
Tatum is familiar with firearms operation, marksmanship, and unarmed combat and while not a soldier, her practice has been dedicated enough that she can be expected to perform on the level of a trained soldier in the technical if not the tactical. Put simply, she can shoot, hit what she is aiming at, maintain weapons and clear basic malfunctions,. In addition, she is proficient with a martial art that is heavily weighted with pressure points and joint locks.

Councellor:
Though she may seem rather rough around the edges, Tatum was starting to go back to college to become a Social Worker. While her studies weren't finished, she is able to listen and guide people through troubling times

Diplomacy:
Considering her rather acerbic personality, one might be surprised that Tatum can be very diplomatic. Actually, none were more surprised to discover she had this skill then herself. Whether it is a particular melodic lilt to her voice, a trustworthiness in her face, or the fact that she is totally blunt and honest, people seem to trust her and be willing to listen to her.

Driving:
Tatum loves to drive and perhaps saw the Fast and Furious movies a few too many times. Tatum has learned how to drive fast and make maneuvers that would terrify most people. While she is not at the level of a professional stunt driver, it wouldn't take her long to get to that level with some actual training.

Home Economics:

Tatum had to learn at an early age how to take care of herself. With her mother's alcohol problem, as well as her worsening mental health, it was up to Tatum to start cooking for them both. That then turned to doing the grocery shopping; then the cleaning and then finally the sewing to keeping them clothed and the budgeting. Due to this, Tatum is actually pretty damned good at maintaining a home. She is particularly adept at candy-making.

Knowledge:

Having come from another world, Tatum has knowledge that a person on this world might not have. However, this is a different world and sometimes her knowledge will be flawed as things are not exactly the same as they were where she is from.

Weaknesses

Limitations:
Tatum's power, while extremely potent, does have its limitations. For starters, with her targetting. She is only able to target someone within her line of sight. If she cannot see them, she cannot target them. Secondly, natural abilities of a species are not negated. For example, Tatum can't stop a person from talking. However, Cypher, who uses his ability to talk, is not. A psychic, while not be able to penetrate her field to affect her, can still affect those around her if not *in* her bubble of effect.

Stranger:
Tatum is not from this world. Heck, on this world, she was never even born! As such, people she knows have no clue or memory of her and trying to get a credit card or drivers license is next to impossible.

Sugar Rush:

Due to the experiments that gave Tatum her powers, she has a physical dependance on sugar. When her blood sugar levels are human normal, she becomes highly suggestable as well as losing her sense of compassion and self preservation. This was a side effect implemented by Hydra in the experiment to create the perfect soldiers, causing the subjects to take orders and not worry about the reprecussions of their actions. When Tatum's blood sugar is high, which is most of the time given her sweet tooth, she has the level of compassion and self preservation that is normal for her. This dependence on a high blood sugar level does not make her immune to a high sugar diet, however and diabetes and tooth decay are definite risk factors for her.
