David Xanatos is the founder, president and CEO of Xanatos Enterprises one of the wealthiest companies in the world. He may have also done a bit of time for corporate espionage, though he served his time and since then he has been very publicly a force for good in New York and the world at large, using Xanatos tech to help evacuate New Yorkers in two separate alien attacks and sending out Xanatos Construction to help rebuild at a loss to his company (though he did secure himself a pardon and some cheap real estate for his troubles).

Behind the scenes David Xanatos is still driven, ruthless and eminently practical, working to secure what he needs to create the temporal paradox that will allow him to send his younger self the gold coins he used to start his empire.

Description:

A broad shouldered man in his mid forties, David Xanatos is six-foot-one of well manicured self-image. The tanned skin, the neatly trimmed goatee, the long brown hair tied back in a ponytail and the white of his smile is all calculated to put people at ease.

That trend continues with his clothing, it's expensive, tailored, but worn to look casual, like this is just what he had at hand it and somehow it worked out great. His usual ensemble is a black button down, a dark sport coat with matching slacks and well polished dress shoes. Something that wouldn't look out of place on the street and in the boardroom.

History

History:

The son of Petros and Helena Xanatos, Greek immigrants in Port Harbor, Maine, David was a gifted child but one held back by his family's lack of means, with only their father's commercial fishing boat to their name. That changed on his 20th birthday in 2002 when David was sent an anonymous gift of a pair of medieval coins worth $20,000 along with very specific instructions for the future. David would use the money from the coins to fund savvy investments that would eventually lead to the foundation of Xanatos Enterprises.

His fortune cemented, and with the help of his right hand man Owen Burnett, he brought Castle Wyvern in Scotland and had it moved stone by stone to his headquarters at the Eyrie Building in New York City. The move awoke Goliath and his clan of gargoyles, an event Xanatos used to his advantage by tricking them into stealing information from a corporate rival. The theft was ultimately discovered and Xanatos went to jail for the theft, though his lawyers saw to it the charges were greatly reduced. That did little to slow Xanatos' plans, and he would continue to manipulate events behind the scenes until he was able to secure his release from prison.

Since then Xanatos has been publicly on the straight and narrow taking his company into the arms business, providing next generation particle weapons amoung other goodies to the United States government, S.H.I.E.L.D. and other allied governments (and some non-allied through back channels). Though in 2021 Xanatos stepped back into the spotlight, during the Chitauri Invasion of 2021, Xanatos unleashed his Steel Clan robots to help evacuate and protect New Yorkers from the battle in Midtown, and when the smoke cleared offered the services of Xanatos Construction to help rebuild at a significant loss to himself. His 'good works' left Xanatos with enough good will to see his image rebuilt and the governor of New York provide him with a full pardon for his past crimes. In addition, Xanatos was able to use footage recovered from the Steel Clan to help the US Government analyze the Chitauri technology and tactics with an eye to stopping future attacks, as well as improving the Steel Clan's overall design (to say nothing of providing endless PR footage of the Xanatos branded robots saving New Yorkers). As well, in his contribution to the rebuilding efforts saw him snap up a bunch of New York real estate at fire sale prices.

Now fully recovered from his past setbacks, David Xanatos is ready to take on the world, but there's a ticking clock to it all, the gift that started his fortune came from the future, and the instructions he was given were the steps to ensure that the gift comes to pass, so, while Xanatos' eyes are fixed on the future he must also gather what he needs to be able to secure his past or everything he's done will come to nothing.

Personality:

David Xanatos doesn't see himself as a villain, in fact he'd probably laugh at the idea, he very much sees himself of the hero of his own story, a story in which everyone else are only bit players. Xanatos can be in turns, charismatic, manipulative, ruthless and honourable. Through it all though he is invariably confident and cunning. Xanatos rarely does anything without considering the angles and plotting his actions so that whatever happens at least one of his plans are advanced by the outcome. This means Xanatos rarely holds a grudge, indeed one of the surest way to win his respect is to beat him at his own game, as for revenge, that's a sucker's game, but it doesn't mean the next time he encounters someone who got the better of them he won't be even more prepared to beat them than he was the last time.

Intellect:

No Reed Richards or Victor Von Doom, Xanatos nonetheless has a world class mind which adapts easily to new information and has allowed him to study a wide-range of disciplines more quickly than most could manage. Though the truly astounding thing about his intellect is his memory, gifted with an eidetic memory, he has shown himself capable of memorizing and replicating complicated data sets (such as schematics or research) with a single viewing, and has the brains to understand what it is he's memorized.

Business:
Xanatos has an MBA from Dartmouth College and is an able administrator of his company's and his personal fortune and is known as something of a Wall Street oracle, able to see changes in the market before they come. A lot of this is due to help from his future self, strategic planning and good PR, but Xanatos is still a savvy investor and an able administrator of his company.

Combat:
Xanatos is skilled in Karate, Judo and Jui-Jutsu, practicing with his assistant Owen Burnette as part of their daily routine, as a result Xanatos is able to hold his own in hand to hand combat against multiple trained opponents but mainly practices these arts for fitness and the personal discipline required. In addition, Xanatos has shown himself to be skilled with firearms (including the advanced ones made by his company), melee weapons, and exotic devices like power armour.

Languages:
Xanatos is fluent in Greek and English, he has also picked up Japanese, Scots Gaelic, and Latin.

Master Strategist:
If David Xanatos has a 'super-power' its strategy he is an avid student of the masters such as Sun Tzu and Machiavelli but has a few tricks of his own besides. He rarely enters into something without thinking through the angles and then tailoring his actions to ensure whatever the immediate outcome the events stemming from them serve his long term plans.

Occult:
Xanatos is not a mage by any stretch of the imagination but over the years, he has become quite knowledgeable about some areas of the occult including the relics of the Eye of Odin, the Phoenix Gate and the Grimorum Arcanorum and the race of Gargoyles themselves. In his studies he's brushed up against the lore of other groups as such as wizards, werewolves and vampires, though his knowledge in these areas are much more basic.

Public Relations:
Xanatos understands the value of a good PR campaign and is adept at using grand gestures to manage his image and give him the cover needed for some of his more shady dealings.

Science and Tech:

David Xanatos is no Tony Stark, he is more likely to hire a brilliant inventor than make a discovery himself. However Xanatos does understand enough about robotics, physics, biology to understand what others invent for him and when it comes to robotics and weapons to make various modifications himself.

Bolt Holes:
As a man famously prepared for everything, Xanatos has unsurprisingly set up a number of safehouses and throughout the world in case things go badly. Some of these like Xanatos Enterprises eastern headquarters in (non-extradition) Madripoor are public. Others, are simply apartments with cash and fake ID paid for through a dizzying array of shell companies and other fronts, known only to Xanatos and Owen.

Contacts:
David Xanatos has a /lot/ of contacts on both sides of the law. He has the governor of New York and the mayor of New York City on speed dial and can get himself on the President's call sheet. In addition, either directly or through one of a number of Super PACs, he's contributed to political campaigns on both sides of the aisle. Locally and federally and has a few cops willing to slip him some info in exchange for a little financial consideration. On the criminal side he's got ties, usually through a cut out or two, with major crime families, arms dealers and other useful crooks. Outside of the United States, has other contacts, mostly with governments his company does business with and international criminal organizations who help him 'acquire' research and relics as well as serve as under the table resellers of his tech to places he can't sell too openly.

Exo-Suit:
Xanatos has an Exo-Suit modeled after his Steel Clan robots (which are in turn modeled after the gargoyle Goliath). The suit is capable of subsonic flight, resisting most conventional weapons and enhancing the wearer's strength to the ten ton range and has a full suite of sensors and comms in the helmet. The weapon systems of the suit are modular, usually featuring particle weapons or missiles (the particle cannons are variable level from being able to cut through a car to blast through three feet of solid rock in a blast, the missiles are all of the anti-tank variety) as well as the suit's natural weapons (claws and tail). However despite being reasonably effective, and able to match the strength of creatures like the gargoyles Xanatos considers the suit to be obsolete in comparison to those created by Tony Stark and others. For the most part the suit serves as a showpiece in his private arsenal dragged out for joy rides and when his headquarters comes under direct attack.

Owen Burnett:
Once an employee of Xanatos rival Cyberbiotics, Owen Burnett jumped ship and quickly found himself a place as David Xanatos' right hand man. The exact nature of that arrangement is something of a mystery, but whatever it is, Xanatos trusts Owen completely and it's known in the company when Owen speaks it's with Xanatos' voice. As such, Xanatos often leaves Owen in charge of the day to day operations of the company while Xanatos works on his various schemes. In addition to being a skilled businessman and negotiator, Owen is a skilled martial artist able to rival Xanatos himself, making him Xanatos' favourite sparring partner.

Personal Arsenal:
Xanatos keeps a few choice toys from his various companies handy for his personal use, ranging from particle beam pistols and rifles, to listening bugs, trackers, as well as tailored business suits with high-tech ballistic protection woven in to keep out knives and small arms fire (though the latter will still bruise muscle and in at close range crack bone). By-in-large the weapons stay hidden away in his office in case of attack, but he can usually be counted on to carry a few bugs and trackers in the pockets of his specially armoured suits.

The particle beam pistols and rifles are both variable setting weapons with a base level of damage about equal to a rifle shot and maxing out at being able to cut through 3 feet of stone. The pistol has five shots at the maximum power level, and 500 at the most basic one, the rifle has 50 shots at the maximum power setting, and 1000 at the most basic.

Private Collection:
Like many of the world's wealthy Xanatos collects art and other items that peak his interest. Most of this collection is fairly conventional, like suits of armour, old first editions, priceless works of art, but in addition to that he has some items of supernatural significance:

The Journal of the Magus - The personal journal of the Magus who was Sorcerer Supreme from 984-995CE and was party to the events that saw the Manhattan Clan of gargoyles frozen in stone until Castle Wyvern is lifted above the clouds as well as other events in his life.

The Eye of Odin - An artifact (falsely) rumoured to be the actual eye of Odin, but still possesses considerable magical power. If worn for a month the items magic will slowly begin to assert itself transforming the wearer into their 'innermost self' which is an often exaggerated and fantastical version of their own self-image and often with little control of their actions while in that state. This ability is unknown to Xanatos at this time as he's never worn it, but it is one of the three items needed to transport him back in time to ensure his past plays out correctly.

Robot Duplicate(S):
Similar to Victor Von Doom's Doombots and the L.M.D.s created by S.H.I.E.L.D. Xanatos has a convincing robotic duplicate of himself that both looks and acts like him when activated, which he had created for him by the Scarab Corporation. In addition due to the artificial nature of its construction it is stronger, faster and more durable than the organic original (peak human agility and speed as well as 2 ton super strength). Having witnessed (at a distance) other attempts at AI blow up in their creator's faces, Xanatos has built in various coded and mechanical fail safes into his duplicate to ensure it doesn't turn on him and while not in use (which it has been for 99.9% of its existence) it is kept turned off and partially disassembled in Xanatos' most secure vault. Two more robot chassis and the codebase for the AI are stored in separate vaults in separate locations to prevent theft and accidental activation.

Steel Clan Robots:
Xanatos keeps a flight of twenty Steel Clan robots at his New York headquarters, these robots are modeled on the gargoyle Goliath and are capable of sub-sonic flight, lifting up to 5 tons, resisting most conventional weapons and using their claws, tails and arm mounted particle beams or rockets (capable of blasting through three feet of concrete) in combat. As these are military grade weapons, Xanatos keeps them under tight control using them either covertly in small numbers or en masse to defend his property or the city itself. This allows the city to look the other way when it comes to his use of these weapons in New York, but if he should overstep and be caught putting others in danger they would be confiscated and he would face considerable political and public backlash.

In addition to the 20 he has at the Eyrie Building, Xanatos can when there's need activate approximately 50 more from his factories in the Tri-State area. These however are earmarked for various Xanatos Enterprises contracts and their use and destruction will likely cause no end of headaches for the production schedule and loss of profits. This is a definitely a 'break in case of alien invasion' type deal.

The Illuminati:
David Xanatos is a member of the Illuminati and can count on the assistance of their membership within reason. However, being rank thirty-two out of thirty-six doesn't give him a lot of pull within the organization, but does help open doors when dealing with other members. In addition his membership in the organization is essential to his plans for getting his past self the coins that jump started his rise to the top.

Wolfram and Hart:
Shady people need legal counsel and Wolfram and Hart is the best, plus, you really can't beat the additional services they provide. While Xanatos is certainly leery of his legal representation, as a (well) paying customer he can count on their full support in all his legal troubles. As well, they're handy for tracking down various mystical artifacts that other firms would scarcely believe exist.

Xanatos' business is handled by Marta Ramos, a junior partner from the New York office.

Xanatos Ent.:

Xanatos Enterprises - Xanatos Enterprises is one of the world's largest privately held companies, over which David Xanatos is both President and CEO, this means there is no board looking over his shoulder and no shareholders to answer to when it comes to Xanatos Enterprises itself. Meaning Xanatos has a lot of leeway when it comes to using corporate resources; want to help rebuild the city while taking a loss? No problem. Move an ancient castle from Scotland to New York and put it on top of your corporate headquarters? Sure thing! This control is less absolute when it comes to his subsidiaries, where Xanatos Enterprises is only the majority shareholder and other people have a say in how things are run.

Xanatos Enterprises itself includes a defense (read: arms) division, an investment division, a petrochemical division, a shipping division, a construction division and most recently a property management division, valued together at billions of dollars. When the company's other assets such as "Gen-U-Tech" (advanced genetics research and application), "Scarab Corporation" (robotics and advanced electronics), and "Pack Media Studios" (TV and film production) are counted they make Xanatos Enterprises one of the largest companies in the world.

What this means for David Xanatos personally is that Xanatos Enterprises provides him more money than he could reasonably spend, as well as an armoury of high-tech toys, and vehicles crafted by his various divisions.

Control:
It might be safe to say that the man who plans for everything is a bit of a control freak. While sometimes the unexpected can be a refreshing change of pace, serious and unexpected threats earn an extreme response from Xanatos. In those cases he will put everything on hold until he's patched whatever hole in his planning that allowed the surprise to happen and leave him wrestling with something truly rare in his experience until it's resolved: self-doubt.

Date With Destiny:
Xanatos got his start by a predestination paradox started by a future version of himself who left instructions for how to make it happen. Of the three things Xanatos needs to send himself back in time to set up his rise to power, he currently has one, the Eye of Odin, he needs to collect the Phoenix Gate and the Grimorum Arcanorum both of which are powerful items which will take some effort to collect, even for David Xanatos.

Xanatos is willing to put a /lot/ on the line to make this prophecy happen so if presented with a chance to get one of these items, or to protect the ones he has he will put just about everything on the line, after all what good is protecting what you've earned if losing the items means it was never yours to begin with?

Enemies:
To quote Xanatos himself, "The richer you are the more enemies you have, and I'm very rich." Though while Xanatos has his share of jealous corporate rivals and cheated customers, most of Xanatos enemies are of his own creation, such as the Manhattan Gargoyle Clan, their lost member Demona (okay, she's more of a frenemy), members of the NYPD and Halcyon Renard, the head of Cyberbiotics. Those people like to keep a close eye on Xanatos and interfere with his more nefarious schemes when they get the chance. Something Xanatos has to take into account when making those plans.

Public Figure:

You can't run of the world's largest companies and not get your name and picture in the paper or online. David Xanatos is a public figure his movements are watched by the press, off hand comments and tweets can cause the value of his company to fluctuate and open villainy is going to get him reported if not to the cops then to the media who'd pay big money for the story. As a result for all his toys and powers David Xanatos can't just throw on a power suit and punch his enemies, but then that's what they make cat's paws for isn't it?
