Profile

A lurking force of good, doomed to suffer, the angel Castiel has cast his lot with humanity. While he's lost some of the full force of his angelic might, he retains enough to serve, battling evil and preventing the occasional apocalypse as best he can. He also enjoys the company of good friends, Warner Brothers cartoons and, of course, all the booze.

Description:

The man before you seems a bit out of place somehow, aloof and awkward. He's handsome enough, with a strong jaw, dark hair cut short, strong cheekbones. Startling blue eyes shine out in his weathered face, a beacon. He rarely smiles, his expression tending towards neutral to quizzical. He seems to have a perpetual case of five o'clock shadow. His voice has a deep, soothing quality, husky and gentle but somehow carrying authority nonetheless.

He wears a tan trenchcoat, trampled and worn, hanging loose on his shoulders. His build is average, his posture straight but still. A careful eye might notice that he doesn't tend to twitch or fidget in the least, just utterly at rest when he's at rest. He wears a white shirt that's seen better days, a blue tie, black trousers and shoes. He can often be found lurking, rarely intervening directly and always watching.

History

History:

Castiel is a warrior angel of Heaven, crafted at the founding of Heaven. For milennia, he has served, battling demons and obeying the will of God. At least, as best he could understand it. In recent years, prophecy and dark forces have risen to create a series of near-apocalypses. Rather than let humans work things out, Castiel recognized that it was time to intervene - whether he had authorization or not.

He plucked a soul from Hell, leaving the mark of his hand on the mortal's flesh, dragging him back to Earth and life. He helped the hunter and his brother to continue to battle evil, developing a loyalty and a friendship with them. In time, Castiel began to question whether or not Heaven always had humanity's best interests at heart.

Through thick and thin, disaster and triumph, he has continued to fight. His relationship with Heaven has deteriorated, even as his reputation has grown. He is seen as a rebel and an iconoclast, one who has chosen to walk his own path, the path of humanity. Some love him for it. Many more hate him. But he will continue to strive to do what he thinks is right - whatever the cost.

Personality

Personality:

Castiel is earnest, sincere and a bit intense. He believes strongly in the greater good, in doing the right thing. He has always done his duty and having to diverge from his total loyalty to Heaven has left him feeling conflicted and often even depressed. Extensive time in a human host has subjected him to emotions he never thought he would feel. He often finds himself confused. He tries to understand humans, but often fails. He focuses on the work as best he can, trying to make sure he can keep the world safe and keep Hell and other evils at bay. He is often surprised and that, itself, he finds surprising, given how very long he has existed.

He can be very literal and doesn't always get nuance or innuendo. As one might expect for an angel, he can be very forgiving. But underneath his gentle facade he remains a warrior of heaven, capable of unleashing the wrath of God and smiting any in his path with a violent and ruthless aggression.

He has developed a great love of humanity, in spite of its oddities, and a great loyalty towards those humans he has come to think of as his friends. He would do anything to protect them, even at the cost of his own life.

Abilities

Angelic Physiology:
While he exists within a human vessel, Castiel's spirit has enhanced his physiology in a variety of ways. As an angel, he has no need of food, water, oxygen or sleep. He is untiring and will not suffer from conventional fatigue or weariness (at least the physical kind). He possesses inhuman strength, enabling him to lift approximately one ton and making him formidable in physical combat. His body will repair most forms of physical damage and injury with startling rapidity, giving him an incredible healing factor. He can withstand stabbings, gunshots, even being burned alive and will return to full health within a matter of minutes (although the more severe, the longer it will take). Magickal attacks and weapons, of course, may ignore such healing.

Apportation:
Castiel possesses the ability to teleport himself instantaneously at will anywhere within the Earth plane. He can teleport others with a simple touch of his hand, although he can generate a 'resonance' with individuals over time that allows him to do so merely by being in their presence. If someone resists or is opposed to teleportation with their will, they can resist, making it more difficult or even impossible to do so. For this reason, he often does so by surprise.

Bio-Manipulation:
Castiel may heal virtually any human injury or illness with a touch of his hand. He has to maintain contact through the process and concentrate to purify the person's body and rid them of harm. Even mortal wounds can be healed, so long as the person has not passed to the other side. He can also put someone into a trance with a touch or simply render them unconscious, provided they have a normal human physiology. Strong-willed or particularly vital beings may be more resistant to this ability. Once, he possessed the power of resurrection, but his faltering connection with Heaven has left that gift beyond his reach for now.

Essence:
Castiel's spiritual, angelic essence transcends his physical form. He is unaging and immortal, having existed since the foundation of Heaven. He can manifest his supernatural essence, displaying his wings and his holy glow, a sight that often leaves humans transfixed or terrified. He can also abandon his mortal host, although he has become very, very attached to this one in particular and would not leave it without very good reason - and, even were he to get a new one, might reform it back into this shape. It has a style he enjoys. When separated, even temporarily, he can manifest himself in the astral plane and even enter the dreams of humans and interact with them.

Mind-Reading:
While not a full telepath, Castiel is capable of reading the surface thoughts of other beings. Demons are immune to such readings, as are trained psychics, telepaths and those of strong will. He can probe deeper with some effort, but isn't particularly proficient with this ability and can generally be resisted by those of good will, although your average joe citizen would succumb easily enough. He cannot broadcast thoughts or perform other telepathic feats.

Senses:
Castiel possesses the ability to sense the supernatural. He can feel the presence of magic, recognize magickal creatures on sight and see through supernatural illusions and disguises. He can often find hidden magickal places, entrances or spells in his vicinity. He can read the auras of living beings and get a sense of their nature, even able to identify some by species (although certain creatures have evolved to disguise themselves from precisely such detection).

Smite:

By channeling divine energy, Castiel can destroy demons and minor supernatural creatures with a touch of his hand. When he does so, their eyes and mouths will glow with supernatural light and they will generally fall dead within a few moments. The more powerful they are, the more they can resist. Being of greater power than your average minion or minor demon can generally keep from being utterly destroyed. Demons will simply be driven and exorcised from their hosts, while higher level supernaturals may be knocked unconscious or merely suffer great pain. Supernatural beings of sufficient power will simply be immune. This power does not affect ordinary humans, mutants, aliens, etc. in any way at all.

Skills

Charisma:
Castiel is naturally charismatic. Others are drawn to him, find him likeable and generally get along well with him. Even many demons find him charming. Angels sometimes look to him for leadership and he has gathered a following in the past. He is not comfortable with such attention and generally shuns it, but he retains the potential nonetheless.

Combat:
Castiel has been a warrior angel for thousands and thousands of years and has fought in countless battles over the milennia, dating back to the original war in Heaven. He is an excellent hand-to-hand combatant. He is extremely capable with melee weapons, most notably sword, knife and spear. He is only barely becoming conversant with modern firearms and the like and generally will not use them unless absolutely necessary.

Occult:
Castiel possesses extensive knowledge of magic and the occult. He knows virtually all forms of supernatural creature, especially how to find and kill such beasts. He knows the nature of magick, can recognize its usage and identify spells. He's deeply familiar with angelic magic especially, and can use Enochian wards to craft protections, hide himself and his fellows from detection and keep demons at bay. While not formally a sorceror, he's about as knowledgeable about magic as one can be without being a practitioner.

Omnilingual:
Castiel can speak and understand all forms of language, both written and spoken, intuitively with no effort.

Theology:

Castiel is, of course, an angel of the Lord. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of all religious traditions and practices, although most especially the many branches of the Abramic faiths of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. He can pass himself off as easily as a priest as an imam as a rabbi - although, in all cases, he would likely seem an eccentric.

Angel Blade:
Castiel possesses a special blade, forged in heaven. It appears as a dagger about a length of his forearm, but can lengthen into a full sword or even a spear if required. The blade is extraordinarily sharp and forged from materials stronger than any Earth metal. Blessed by heaven, it can destroy the spiritual essence of a being, including an angel, if used. Castiel does not use it lightly and generally reserves it for the most serious of enemies. It is also one of the few things that can permanently extinguish his light.

Holy:

Castiel, as an angel, is a holy thing, a holy being. Certain types of things will simply find him anathema by nature and will flee his presence. Certain sensitive humans and lower level supernatural creatures mostly, but some in particular are more vulnerable than others (some breeds of vampire, for example).

Alienated:
Castiel feels his separation from humanity. It pains him at times, makes him angry. While he is dedicated to protecting humanity, at times he is tempted to turn away. He has even grown angry with humankind before, losing himself in wrath. For the most part, he maintains an even keel, but this alienation always lurks within him - as perhaps it does with all angels.

Angelic Grace:
Castiel's power derive from his angelic grace, an aspect of his essence. Should it be removed, he would lose his abilities and have them given to whoever took possession of it, leaving him mortal and vulnerable. He could regain his abilities by either reacquiring his own grace or taking it from another angel.

Exorcism:
Castiel currently inhabits a host body. Some spells, rituals and powers could cast him from that body, sending him back to Heaven and forcing him to find a new host. That would take time and difficulty, as not all vessels are equally worthy or capable of accepting an angelic host.

Gullible:
For all his power and sensitivity, Castiel can be exceedingly trusting. He wants to think the best of people, especially humans. While he has grown a bit more wary with experience, he nonetheless can be fooled, especially by any figure that draws sympathy or compassion.

In-Between:
Castiel has cast his lot with humanity. While he has not fallen from grace, he no longer has the full favor of Heaven and has lost a measure of his power in the bargain, making him weaker and costing him the power of resurrection. And, of course, he remains an enemy of Hell and a target of countless demons. Neither side trusts or likes him and both will do their best to take him apart given the opportunity. He has cast his lot with humanity for now, for better or worse.

Touch:
Many of Castiel's abilities require proximity and touch. If he is kept at a distance and unable to make contact, he won't be able to put them to sleep, smite them or teleport them anywhere. As such, he often has to put himself in the midst of the action in order to be effective.

Weapons:
Certain types of magical weapons and spells are designed specifically to harm angels and those are often very effective indeed. Most notably, Castiel's own angel blade is particularly lethal to his own kind and, if turned against him, could put out his light once and for all.

Weird:

Castiel is strange. He does not behave like a human. He doesn't understand human culture or norms. For all the knowledge he possesses, he can often be confused even by simple things or behaviors. He does not do very well blending and others will often regard him as odd or eccentric.
