When the young prodigy Hank McCoy, star football player and genius sciences student was outed as a mutant to his fellow college students he tried applying his vast intellect to curing himself of his condition. Instead he accidently destabilized his mutation further, transforming from his already odd (yet still mostly human) appearance into a dark blue furred simian/feline humanoid Beast. Chased by a mob of students and faculty, he was saved by the timely arrival of Professor Xavier and the first of what would be the original X-Men. Now, years later, Dr. Hank McCoy is not only one of the founding members of the Original X-Men but is a famous scientist in his own right. He has seemingly embraced his Beast and strives to use his skills both as a Hero and Academic to further Human/Mutant relations and find peace between them.

Description:

Doctor Henry 'Hank' McCoy is also known as The Beast, and for good reason. Once looking human (ableit with overly large hands and feet) a secondary mutation transformed his already impressive physique into what it is today. He may only be 5'11" tall, but Hank seems to be almost as broad at the shoulders. His powerful arms are longer than normal in ratio to a human body, almost like a great ape's. His hands and feet are are more like prehensile paws, dexterous /and/ sporting retractable claws. While his body is mostly simian in nature, his head is less so, almost leonine in nature. His entire body, that which is visible, is covered in a velvet like blue/black fur except for his head where it is more like a mane of the same color. His eyes are slit, like a cat's, but are a rich blue.

Hank must have a good tailor because he looks rather resplendent in a dark brown suit that is more casual than formal. It gives him the air of a Young Professor, especially the tweed elbow patches.

History

History:

Henry McCoy's father worked at a nuclear power plant where he was exposed to massive amounts of radiation during an accident. Norton was seemingly unharmed, but the radiation affected his genes and as a result his son Henry was born a mutant with abnormally large hands, feet, enhanced dexterity and a prodigious intellect. Throughout his childhood his parents nourished his innate curiosity and it wasn't long before Henry showed a profound talent for reason. By the time he was ten he was scoring genius level results on IQ tests. He skipped several grades and enrolled in university a young age.

But while he excelled in school, he was a lonely sort. The stereotypical 'Nerd' or Geek' with few friends and fewer social skills, something he tried to hide under being a prankster. But thanks to an accidental display of his superhuman agility (which wasn't accredited yet to his mutancy) Henry became a star football player and gained some modicum of popularity from his fellow students, as well as some jealousy from his team mates.

It was when the team captain played a prank on Hank that he was outed as a mutant. the bigotry from those who were once his 'friends' drove Henry to try and cure his mutation before they could expel him but his experiment backfired and instead he destabilized his mutation, activating genetic atavism and transforming himself into a new blue furred bestial form. When he was discovered, the students and faculty of the university became a mob, hunting him down. But before they could catch him Charles Xavier appeared and, using his mental abilities, rescued Hank and brought him to his School for The Gifted.

Allowed to flourish, Hank completed his doctoral studies under Xavier's tutelage record time while training to become one of the first of his X-Men. With his team he fought evil humans and mutants alike, protecting the innocent of both species in hope of helping them find peace. Outside the field of being an X-Man, Hank worked on multitudes of scientific and technological projects to not only fight evil but to better all sentient life. He has become a known member of the intellectual community, though many scientists tend to ignore him out of their bigotry.

As the school has grown, Hank has become a teacher of the newest generation of mutants. He of course remains an active member of the X-Men as well as serving as a doctor, scientist and engineer at the Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.

Personality

Personality:

While he's a stalwartly serious and stupendously scholarly researcher, Hank has taken the role of the joker to heart. He's always cracking jokes and making fun of his opponents, or launching deadly puns. Hank also greatly enjoys showing off his extensive vocabulary in sprawling and intricate sentences. Furthermore he wields a wide range of unusual expressions, some in French or Latin. Hank comes across has a light-hearted, very friendly, highly charming man. He's also extremely loyal to his cohorts.

But under his seemingly sunny disposition is a lonely heart. His intellect and his bestial nature are at times a cause of isolation. Very few people can keep up with his mind so like many other geniuses throughout history, he is socially awkward. It is only with the X-Men that he can really be himself, but it remains a constant struggle with the animal within him. His mind may be able to contain the myriad of thoughts, may be able to logically accept who and what he is, but his spirit is always struggling.

But he has an indominable will. He remains rational and logical (jokes aside) to the end, sometimes stubbornly so. But when it comes to ethics and morals he stands firm. This in many ways is what makes him part of the moral core that encompasses the X-Men.

Abilities

Eidetic Memory:
Hank has an eidetic memory and it shows in his ability to recall complex mathematical or chemical formula with little to no research. He can additionally remember and quote historical text, literature, or even comic strip quotes from memory.

Enhanced Agility:
Beast's agility, balance, and bodily coordination are enhanced to levels that are beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete. While in his simian form, he has the agility of a great ape combined with the acrobatic prowess of an Olympic level gymnast. He can walk a tightrope or a slack rope as easily as most people can walk on a sidewalk. He can also walk on his hands for many hours, or perform a complicated sequence of gymnastic stunts such as flips, rolls, and springs. He can easily match or top any Olympic record in gymnastics.

Enhanced Dexterity:
He can perform many tasks with his feet as easily as a human could do with his hands. His manual and pedal dexterity are so great that he can write using both hands at once or tie knots in rope with his toes.

Enhanced Durability:
Beast's bodily tissues are harder and more resistant to certain types of injuries than the bodies of normal humans. His physiology can withstand great impact forces, though he can be injured by many types of conventional weapons such as standard firearms and bladed weapons. However, he can withstand physical impacts, such as falling from several stories or being physically struck by many superhumanly strong beings that would either severely injure or kill a normal human with little to no discomfort.

Enhanced Healing:
Beast's metabolism enables him to repair mild to moderate injuries much faster than a normal human. For instance, he can recover from minor ailments, such as a severe cold or fever within a few hours. More severe injuries, like broken bones, used to heal within a few days, whereas normal humans might take many weeks or even months. However, his healing abilities have increased to the point where he recovers from mild to moderate injuries within a few hours. But still, he cannot regenerate destroyed organs or severed limbs.

Enhanced Reflexes:
Beast's reflexes are similarly enhanced and are on levels beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete. His training with the X-Men, as well as his experience battling enemies has granted him the reaction time to evade gunfire. He can react at low-level speeds. His reflexes are a partial reason why the Beast is able to be so agile and fast, despite the abnormal bulk of his ape-like form.

Enhanced Senses:
Hank possesses enhanced, acute senses that are comparable to those of certain animals, enabling him to see and hear distant objects more clearly than a normal human, and identify and track someone purely by scent. He also possesses cat-like night-vision that also allows him to see even in near-total darkness. His scent of smell can let him track and even identify individuals by scent.

Enhanced Speed:
Beast can run and move at speeds that are slightly beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete, despite his abnormal size. He can run at speeds up to 40 miles an hour over short distances, particularly if he runs on all fours. It also allows Beast to attack opponents before they can react and pull their trigger fingers and keep up with opponents who can move at low-level superhuman speeds.

Enhanced Stamina:
Beast's highly advanced musculature produces less fatigue toxins during physical activity than that of an ordinary human. He can exert himself at peak capacity for several hours before the buildup of fatigue toxins in his blood begins to impair him.

Enhanced Strength:
Beast possessed a degree of super human strength where he can now lift about 10 tons, which is sufficient to smash through a brick wall with a single punch and to tie an iron barbell into a knot, as well as smash a tank with his bare hands. He can even punch the ground with enough force to create a massive shock wave. This strength also extends to the muscles in his legs, allowing him to leap 15 feet in a standing high jump and 25 feet in a standing broad jump.

Minor Pheromone Manipulation:
Beast has the ability to secrete pheromones to attract members of the opposite sex.

Razor-Sharp Claws and Fangs:

Beast sports retractable, 3" razor sharp claws at the tip of each finger and toe. Their natural edges, coupled with his strength, are sufficient to rend most conventional materials including flesh, wood, stone, and even metal effortlessly and enable him to climb up vertical surfaces by wedging his fingers and toes into the smallest of cracks. He possesses elongated canines that he can use, if he chooses to do so, as effective weapons in close quarter combat situations.

Acrobatics:
Hank is an almost unparalleled acrobat/gymnast thanks to both his dexterous mutation and years upon years of training.

Genius Polymath:
Hank McCoy is one of the eight smartest people in the world. He has six PhDs, including one in biophysics. A world-renowned biochemist, Henry McCoy's greatest asset is his keen scientific mind. As the X-Men's resident technological and medical genius, he possesses extraordinary expertise in genetics, biochemistry, and electronics. He discovered the hormonal extract that is the chemical cause of mutation. Among his technological and engineering feats McCoy helped design and built Cerebro, the Danger Room, the Blackbird, as as well as a thermonuclear reactor. He is also quite the gifted computer scientist, hacking government and even alien computer. He has extensive knowledge of a variety of other scientific fields from theoretical physics to nano-technology.

Gifted Polyglot:
Hank is fluent in several languages including English, German, French, Latin, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Arabic, Russian and Latverian. He has also learned a few dead and alien languages in the course of his various researches.

Hand To Hand Combat:
Hank is an excellent hand-to-hand fighter. He gained his initial combat training from Professor Xavier during his X-Men training and then continued his tutelage in combat gymnastics from other heroes and organizations over the years. He typically uses a freestyle form of combat, similar to that of Spider-Man, that allows him to make full use of his great strength and agility. During times of anger, however, Hank is known to resort to brawling and street fighting tactics.

Laboratory:
Hank possesses a fully-equipped laboratory in Xavier's mansion. Presumably it holds the latest in biological, medical, technical and material analysis devices. It may also contain alien technology.

X-Dove:

A smaller but more maneuverable sister to the the X-Men's Blackbird. It's passenger space and armament is more limited than the Blackbird.

Weaknesses

Animal Instincts:
For years, Hank McCoy has had to come to terms with his increasing animal instincts, which came with the destabilization of his initial mutation into his current bestial form. He doesn't just look animalistic he also has many animalistic instincts as well, which he fights to control. Certain stimuli, or psychic intervention, could advantage of this by making him act like an animal. An example of his animal instincts, Hank's transformation into his bestial form has given him a carnivorous taste for flesh, which he is conflicted over.

Far Sighted:
While Hank's mutation has given him incredible sight both in the dark and at a distant, he actually needs glasses to be able to see properly up close.

Loneliness:
Under his gregarious, happy-lucky personality lies a lonely heart. Even among mutants he tends to feel like is less than human. That he isn't deserving of, or will ever find, a relationship that won't somehow be ruined by his mutation.

Visible Mutation:
Obviously, Hank cannot hide his mutation.

Vulnerable Senses:

Due to his animal-like mutation, the same enhancements that strengthen his senses can also be a weakness. Certain frequencies of sound, bright light, pheromonic scents, etc. can affect and even incapacitate him.
