Shiloh | One thing Shiloh has learned in her completely crazy life is to never let certain skills go dull. In her case, it's her swordsmanship, and so a few times a week after the bakery is closed and she has no other plans after work, she'll come to a sparring center. They're not extremely advertised - you sort of have to be in the know - unlike gun ranges which can be found a dime a dozen. The craft of the sword has gone out of style but some people try to keep it alive and fresh in the mind. So she's dressed in an all black work out suit, has on various forms of protection, and is currently working on some warm up formations. Not for fencing, but for practicing with a short sword, using a few moves against a target dummy before possibly sparring with another human being. |
Nick Drago | What Nick has is a certain set of skills. Skills that could prove very useful for one in the field of acting. And sword fighting is currently not one of them. And yet as the dressed down performer with the ballcap on and ponytail tucked into the back of his shirt comes through the doors, it becomes apparent that he has become one of the few 'in the know'. Shifting over to the side to allow for the door to close unobstructed, Nick glances down to a card in hand before he makes his way over to the front desk. Things should be quick today. Come here. Check out the place, speak with the guy on the card and get a general feel of the vibe. After that, he could head home and then let them know his thoughts. Simple, right? |
Shiloh | The man at the front desk is an older gentleman who has likely seen better days and happier times. Still, as Nick approaches, he sets down his newspaper and regards him with a gentle gaze. "What can I do for you, lad?" Asking this and as Nick might take a better look around, there's a few pictures on the wall of different sword fighters through out the years. There is also a medallion on the wall behind the man that says HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) among some other different countries and their own symbols to represent the same. |
Nick Drago | As Nick is greeted, the performer gives a gentle smile in response. "Hi. I was told I should come here to get a look around. He holds out the business card he was given, "Regarding some training..." Well duh, training. What else would he be here for? "Maybe also get a look around the place to see what I'm getting myself into?" |
Shiloh | The man behind the counter takes the business card and nods his head. "Russel's actually in the training room right now. I can take you back there and introduce you. Come along young man." No questions asked it seems. The card is handed back over if Nick wants to take it, but either way, the older man shifts to come from behind the counter and beckons Nick to follow him. "Have you had any sort of training in sword combat? Or is there something more particular that brings you here?" This is asked as he leads Nick through another door just down a short hallway. The door opens to show an expanded room. Target dummies are littered around in certain sections. There's fencing, knife throwing, broadsword and shortsword practice points. A few people in each section either sparring another person or practicing against a dummy. "Russel likes to keep his skills sharp, so he'll come and practice with some of the others that come here." Which causes the man to look around and then he motions. "Ah, there he is..." Motioning to a middle aged man dressed in light battle garb going sword to sword with the very same Shiloh Foster whom Nick may or may not recognize on first glance as they clash swords and perform dazzling footwork. |
Nick Drago | As the man gets up and moves from behind the counter, Nick wheels around to follow. As he's asked to his experience he considers, "No on the sword fighting. I got a taste of a few styles of fighting but I think the escrima might be closest...since that introduces blades after a point." ... "...So no." As for the reason why- "Acting role. Sword fight in the script. They sent me here." When Russel is pointed out, Nick glances over, brow raising as he takes note of who he is sparring with. "Well...small world." |
Shiloh | "Ah. Makes sense now. I even might know who sent you. Anyway. Russel's over there. Give 'em a few minutes and they may take a break. Could be a bit longer though." The man says and then gives a nod before toddling off back to the front desk. Shiloh takes a good few swings, spins on her toes and then comes back around while Russel blocks all but the last swipe. "Ha! That's three strikes to your two. You're gaining ground, old man." She says this and pauses for a moment, though standing defensively just in case. "You're also improving, little by little. Told you there was much more to learn and hone here..." Russel grins and then he looks away for a moment, back to see the deskman walking away and shifting eyes to the man he leaves behind. "Hold. Someone new is here." Shiloh's gaze follows and she smiles. "Oh hey. I know him. Let me make introductions..." And she follows until the two of them meet up with Nick. "Nick Drago, meet Russel Barrington. Russel, this is Nick Drago. The one I was talking to you about earlier." Russel extends a hand. "Pleasure to meet you. What brings you down to our neck of the city?" |
Nick Drago | As the guide turns to make his leave, Nick looks back to the departing figure. "Thanks." His attention shifts back to the pair doing battle, quietly observing the footwork. As the dance of swords come to an end, Nick's attentions shifts to the pleasantries exchanged and the eventual approach. Nick smiles to Shiloh, "Fancy meeting you here. It seems like only yesterday we just talked." For the record. It was. As Shiloh makes introductions, Nick offers his hand over to Russel. Despite the nature of his attendance, the hands are not overly soft. Instead they betray much use, either in the process of holding something or hanging from it. "Pleasure." The comment about speaking about him earlier causes for him to look over to Shiloh. "...Oh really now? Have you betrayed the identity of my favorite cupcake offering?" |
Shiloh | "Hardly! I didn't even name you until just now. You were just the faceless superstar I happened to now own an autograph of..." Shiloh says this with a grin on her face. "Are you already here to practice stuff? It was only yesterday you found out I even knew how to maybe swing a sword." "Pish. You know a lot more than you give yourself credit for..." Russel interrupts her and then looks back to Nick, shaking hands. "Pleasure's mine I think. So..." Though he thinks on Shiloh's words a moment. "-Are- you here to practice something?" He even gives Nick a once over and then gives a slight 'hmm' sound before eying Shiloh. Shiloh just grins. "I'm sure there's an explanation for this wonderful timing of finding me where I practice..." And not out on the streets where she does her dirty work. |
Nick Drago | Nick chuckles, "You might be getting a bit generous with the 'super' part. His hand lowers once Russel releases it. "And as interesting as the timing is my appearance here is more to meet Russel." Turning his head to look to the instructor he gives a nod, "In short I've been approached with a role that involves a sword fighting scene. And you've been recommended as the means in which to make it both entertaining, and believable." |
Shiloh | "Ah. Yes. That is something I am known to do..." Russel says this with a grin. "What type of sword fighting are we talking? And do you know how long the scene might be? If you can't answer the second question yet - that's fine. The first question is more important. That will help me determine what I would want to get you instructed on." Shiloh grins and nods. "Each sword fighting type has it's own techniques. It's important to learn the vital things like how to hold the weapon, how to stand for offense or defense, or when you're just standing around. It may sound silly, but it's all important. I would think twice as such if you're not even really fighting." Russel nods. "Faking it can sometimes be harder than actually practicing it. But all of that will come with time. And we shouldn't overwhelm the man." Whiloh shrugs, "He's a big boy. He can take it." |
Nick Drago | Nick pauses as he considers the question. "French revolution time period. Fencing. I can't imagine it going over ten minutes. Even with factoring in pauses and banter." He pauses, "...I'm not adverse to Actually learning how to do it." Hell, considering those he knows it might even be useful. "But the ones sending me over here will only be concerned about getting the scene worked out in their schedule." |
Shiloh | Russel gives a nod. "Ah. Fencing is a beautiful art. I am sure we can assist you with learning it. For both yourself and the movies." He offers this with a smile. "Fencing is my second favorite technique. I love the short sword, personally. But Russel's right. It's pretty in it's footwork." Shiloh adds in. "Well, however you want to approach it. We can surely sit down and discuss lessons times and the like. Depending on schedules..." Shiloh grins. "Oh oh oh. Let me teach him!" |
Nick Drago | "Well- then great!" Nick responds, a bit of contentment betrayed in his voice to the resolution brought about. "So- the thing is they haven't locked in the roles yet in terms of which one I'd be playing in the scene. Just that I'd be in it. So I'm not sure If I'm going to be winning with style or losing with style for it. But- I'm guessing that's not necessary to know just yet since there are basics..." Shiloh's insistence to teach him cause for him to look over to her, and then over to Russel. Is that something that'd be allowed? |
Shiloh | Russel nods his head once more. "Right. You can learn the basics at least. Stances and such. How to hold the blade. We'll want to get your sizing so we can fit you in the proper fencing uniform. I think I might even know someone who can put together something from that time period. Obviously not -for- the scene itself, but something similar to get you used to it..." Then he looks to Shiloh and shrugs. "If Nick has no problems with it, I can't see why not. You really only come here to keep yourself fit. There's not a lot we can actually teach -you-." A pause. "Will it interfere with...other activities?" Shiloh gives a blink and then shakes her head. "It shouldn't. Things have been pretty quiet...and I could just teach him during the times I would usually come here to train myself." She looks to Nick then. "Provided it fits with your scheduling..." |
Nick Drago | Nick tilts his head "Ah yes the scheduling... Well, that'd be in Wade's court to work out. But if the studio's fine with it-" A hand gestures to Russel, "-and you're fine with it. I don't see a problem with that." |
Shiloh | "Good. Shiloh has a lot of standing here...so I will actually leave you in her hands. But if either of you have questions or think there is anything else I can provide. Do let me know. Shiloh. I'll see you next week?" Russel asks that last bit but then turns to wander off even - perhaps - before Shiloh has a chance in answering. Shiloh, herself, just smiles. "Oh it'll be nice to have something else to look forward to besides getting back to the bakery in time to make fresh items for the day..." She says this without really thinking of what that could imply. "So. A rock star and a movie star? Is there any form of media you don't do?" |
Nick Drago | Nick looks back over to Russel as he makes his way out. But as Shiloh speaks up he looks back over to her. The question gets a thoughtful look, arms crossing as he looks aside. "Well there's the n-" Nope. Been in that. "Um...I haven't written any books." Song writing doesn't count, right? |
Shiloh | Shiloh laughs a little and nods. "I suppose that counts. So! Uhm. I guess at this point it's up to us to meet with Wade and work out a schedule?" Asking this much as she looks back to some of the other people practicing and then back towards Nick. "Oh this is going to be so awesome!" |
Nick Drago | At the prospect of seeing Wade's reaction as Shiloh shows up to work out scheduling, Nick's smile twists into something a bit more devious. "Yes. Although we could probably do it over the phone, it kind of misses something when you can't see the reaction." Reaching into his pocket, he pulls out a card. "I guess this is the time I give YOU the business card." Nick comments, offering it over to Shiloh, "Office is on the front. My number's written on the back." |
Shiloh | Shiloh takes the card and smiles. "I'll call to set up an appointment. But you're right. I would love to see the look on Wade's face. Small world indeed..." She tucks the card away and then takes a breath. "Well. It was nice seeing you...but I should probably make my way back home..." Which, isn't really where she'll be going, but that's her secret to keep. |
