Jason Blood is a powerful dark magician, bound at the soul with a rhyming monstrosity known as Etrigan the Demon. Jason once believed himself to be a noble knight tricked and forced into his deal with the devil - only to later learn that he entered it willingly and spent centuries as a willing conspirator with Etrigan until a spell wiped his memory. With his past restored to him, he's trying to reconcile the good he's trying to do and the black heart beating in his chest. All with a literal devil on his back.

Jason Blood is an eerie and unpleasant figure. Intense, brooding and anti-social, he stands about 6 feet in height, his build lean and his features gaunt. He has dark brown hair with a shocking streak of white sweeping back from his brow line. His green eyes are a bit sunken, his cheekbones in stark relief. He has traces of a British accent, muddied with years in America.

Blood tends towards slightly old-fashioned suits, complete with vest and watch fob. Brown and green tend to be his colors, although he'll have a splash of orange or red in his tie. He keeps his clothes in good condition, a contrast to his tattered self, his neat suit a contrast to the haggard and unpleasant nature of the man himself. He wears a few rings, silver mostly and bearing occult markings. He smokes sometimes, hand-rolled cigarettes drawn from an embossed leather case.

History

Jason Blood was a simple peasant in the British Isles of the sixth century, uneducated, crude and superstitious. He fell victim to a being who called itself Merlin (although whether or not it was actually Merlin or if there's simply more than one, it's hard to say). This Merlin used Jason as a tool, binding the soul of his demonic half-brother Etrigan to Jason's and sealing them forever together as one. The bargain didn't work out great, since Etrigan almost immediately betrayed his brother for the favor, sparking off a conflict that's existed for centuries since.

Through Jason's invocation, Etrigan could come to Earth, but he was also constantly tied down and held to Jason whether he liked it or not. Jason was a petty and greedy man and so Etrigan was able to seduce him to evil. He helped to teach Jason the dark arts of black magick, build a fortune, amass power and terrorize others for Etrigan's amusement. He was a willing pawn of the demon for well over a thousand years.

Over time, though, the evil and corruption began to wear on him. Rather than growing jaded, he grew more ashamed, more fearful, more miserable. At the dawn of the 20th century, he rebelled against Etrigan, trying to find a way to free himself. The resulting spell temporarily wiped Jason's memory - he imagined himself a victim of Etrigan, a noble hero who had been struggling against the Demon's influence and trying to use him to do good. And, for a hundred more years, that's who he was.

Then he got his memory back.

Now he tries to reconcile who he was with who he'd become, with the understanding that he himself is as corrupt and broken and wicked as anyone he ever battled since he lost his memory. He is ashamed and angry and prone to lashing out. And Etrigan is more than happy to take advantage.

Personality

Jason Blood's alignment would best be described as Spiteful Good. His instincts are to be evil. He is naturally selfish, uncaring for others, vain, occasionally cruel, greedy, demanding. He isn't a good person by any measure. But his hatred and disgust for Etrigan, his resentment of the Demon, has lead him to do good just to stick it in the face of his infernal half. He is habitually heroic, just to be a thorn in Etrigan's side. It is not easy for him and it often displeases him, doing good, but the satisfaction of making Etrigan miserable generally makes it worthwhile. Still, he's not a loveable person and he often alienates and infuriates those around him.

Etrigan, by contrast, has a certain charm and charisma, despite being unalloyed pure evil. He delights in destruction and death. He likes toying with people and manipulating others to do his bidding. He laughs at the failures of others. He wants to undermine and destroy everything that is good and true and pure. But he is also funny and clever and capable of ingratiating himself with others, seeming like just a lovable scamp, even as he's being an utter bastard.

AWARENESS
Jason Blood is deeply attuned to the mystical and magical energies around him. He can often detect the presence of supernatural beings, recognize their nature by their aura and can be difficult to sneak up on. He can casually perceive the dead and sense nearby spirits and invisible entities (although there are those who can cloak themselves even from him). He's especially attuned to infernal or demonic activity and can sometimes even identify a specific demon from the energies involved in its invocation.

BLACK MAGICK
Jason Blood is one of the world's most accomplished dark sorcerers, with centuries of experience under his belt and a certain affinity for the demonic. He's particularly adept at summoning, manipulation, transmogrification and war magicks. He can summon hellfire or mystic energy bolts, create shields, bind others in place, teleport, read minds and draw spirits to do his bidding. Spells can vary in requirement, from a simple incantation or even focused thought to elaborate rituals and specific ingredients. The more powerful and more permanent effect, generally the more work required to make it happen. The sources of Blood's magick are generally either personal or infernal - faerie magick, certain types of high or holy magick and some kinds of pagan witchcraft are outside of his purview.

ETRIGAN
Jason Blood has his soul bound and intertwined with a prince of Hell known as Etrigan the Rhymer. Etrigan is an ancient lord of hell, high up in the rankings of the infernal, potent and feared throughout the infernal realms. Blood can summon Etrigan to take his place on Earth through a simple incantation: "Gone, gone, o form of Man, Rise the Demon, Etrigan!". Blood himself becomes locked in an interdimensional limbo - he can perceive the material through Etrigan's senses, but only the Demon can hear him and he has no control in the physical world.

Etrigan's physical form is exceedingly powerful. He has supernatural strength enabling him to lift/press around sixty tons on Earth. His rock-like body is extremely resistant to injury, shrugging off bullets, explosions and high level impacts equivalent to his strength. Etrigan regenerates and heals at an accelerated rate, reforming his demonic self through a channeling of infernal energies, so that if he is injured, he can be up and functioning again usually within a matter of minutes unless the wound is particularly grievous. Etrigan can fly at speeds of up to 200 mph and has no need to eat, breathe or sleep. Etrigan can breathe hellfire and throw bolts of hell energy with incredible destructive force, capable of detonating a city bus or burning down a large tree to ashes in less than a minute. If Etrigan is particularly hurt or driven out, he will return to his hell dimension and Blood usually cannot summon him again for a period of at least twelve hours.

IMMORTALITY

The curse that binds Blood and Etrigan has made Jason unaging and immortal. This doesn't have all the benefits normally accrued by such a gift. While he will not die forever for anything less than the destruction of more than half his body, he does not heal any more particularly quickly than an ordinary human or, at least, not in the sort of swift, regenerative way one might expect. Etrigan enjoys Jason's suffering and pain - in fact, sometimes they're useful spell components - so Jason will not die but will remain wounded and suffering even if done extreme physical harm. He will be in great pain and impaired in whatever way the wound imposes on him until it heals, which can be anywhere from a day or two to weeks depending on how bad it is. Still, it beats dying. Probably.

COMBAT
Etrigan is an extremely experienced combatant with thousands of years under his belt. His style is brutal and efficient and savage in the extreme. He has no mercy. Jason is less physically formidable, but can handle himself at least well enough with his fists. He's no martial artist, but he can win a barfight, at least.

CONTACTS
Jason is widely known in the magickal community. He's more feared than respected, but he's known for paying his debts, both financial and otherwise. He knows who the players and forces are in the world of sorcery and can usually find the magical hidey holes in anyplace he goes. He has contacts to deal in magical goods, black market spell craft and unholy artifacts.

DECEPTION
Both Jason and the Demon are masterful liars, skilled deceivers who play other people like violins. Jason can look into your eyes and lie to your face. He can keep track of plenty of lies and feign emotions that he hasn't felt. He's extremely cunning and quite capable of tricking others and taking them off guard.

EQUESTRIAN
Jason is an experienced horseman and rider. He knows how to ride a horse even in combat, as well as care for and maintain a horse to keep it in top condition.

OCCULTIST
Jason Blood is a world-class occultist with centuries of experience. While regaining his memory may have shattered his sense of self, it has returned to him vast swathes of experience and understanding in regard to the magickal world. In his millennia and a half of life, he's encountered most of what the supernatural world can toss at him (although there's always something new). He's an expert supernatural investigator with a wide range of knowledge at his fingertips.

POLYGLOT
Jason speaks a vast array of languages. He is fluent in English, Spanish, French, German, Russian, Italian, Arabic, Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, Latin and Portuguese. He can read Sanskrit, Egyptian hieroglyph and Norse runes, as well as ancient Babylonian, Sumerian, Lemurian and Atlantean. As a demon, Etrigan can instinctively understand and speak any human tongue.

POLYMATH
Jason Blood has lived for nearly 1500 years, in countless cultures all around the world. He's played a hundred different roles and dipped his fingers in many different disciplines. Art, history, literature, architecture, law, medicine - there's nary a profession he hasn't tried. While he doesn't remember everything, he still has an extremely wide base of liberal knowledge around a vast array of disciplines.

SWORDSMAN

Both Etrigan and Jason are formidable swordfighters. They specialize most especially in traditional broadswords and bastard swords. He has a formidable collection to choose from, although he rarely takes one along unless he expects trouble.

LIBRARY
Jason Blood has multiple occult libraries, vast resources of lore and mythos that he can pore through when confronted with a magical problem. Grimoires from eight continents (counting Atlantis), histories, creature guides, maps, alchemical texts - he has access to a huge wealth of supernatural knowledge, scattered at his various homes.

STATUS
Etrigan is a lord of hell, high-ranking and feared throughout the infernal realms. He can command lesser demons and demand their fealty. He will strike fear into the hearts of most anyone familiar with demonology and could be a contender for a future King of Hell.

WEALTH

Jason Blood has amassed vast wealth, property and status during his lifetime, most of it ill-gotten. You don't see him giving it up in a fit of conscience, though. His personal savings measure somewhere in the 60 million dollar range. He has homes in New York and Gotham, a country estate in the UK and a luxury penthouse in Berlin. He has a huge collection of art and antiquities that would make a museum curator faint, including several that have never seen the light of day in hundreds of years.

Weaknesses

BAD MAN
While he has built his virtue and his strength over the centuries, Jason Blood's heart and instincts remain those of a wicked and weak man. His reflexive responses are craven, cruel, selfish and occasionally cowardly. He works to overcome those impulses, but sometimes he falls and then has to slowly crawl his way back up out of the pit again.

CURSED
Jason and Etrigan are bound at the soul. One cannot live without the other. If they are separated, in their current condition, both will begin to sicken and weaken until they are reunited. In order to become Etrigan, Jason must recite a specific incantation. If he cannot speak it, if his mouth is bound or his words are silenced, then he cannot bring Etrigan to the earthly plane.

ENEMIES
Jason and Etrigan alike have blood enemies, creatures and humans they've traumatized, betrayed, beaten and wronged. Those enemies are on both sides of the fence, good and evil, and none of them are likely to forgive the wrongs done to them just because Jason's fighting on the side of the angels these days. Hell, even the angels pretty much hate his guts.

HOLY THINGS
Holy and blessed weapons, exorcisms and the true faith of a believer (regardless of creed) are all toxic to Etrigan. They will cause him pain, drive him back and make him want to leave the earthly plane and return to the warm confines of Hell. While Blood himself isn't as directly harmed by such things, they will make him exceedingly uncomfortable and he'll avoid them if at all possible.

MISERABLE
Jason hates himself. He has difficulty enjoying things because so much of his life is tainted with guilt and pain. Even the things he should enjoy, such as his wealth or physical luxuries, bear him little joy because he knows the foul things he did to acquire them. Not to mention that his soul is intertwined with a demon who hates him and lives to torment him. He is an unhappy individual by any measure (and he often takes it out on others).

THE DEMON
Put simply, Etrigan and Jason Blood hate each other. They've coexisted for a millennium and a half, joined at the soul, and they have driven one another mad. While they will be on the same page often in terms of mutual enemies, they do not have the same agenda in the least and Etrigan will take any free shot to make Jason's life miserable if he can. Jason may summon Etrigan to fight a villain only to have Etrigan switch sides or simply lay out both allies and enemies to show he can. Jason can try not to summon Etrigan at all, but the longer he keeps the Demon within him, the more painful and weakened he will become. The longest he's ever gone is six months and that left him in agonizing pain and nearly catatonic before he gave in.

UNTRUSTED

For obvious reasons, many in the magickal community distrust Jason. He isn't seen as reliable and has betrayed many of them in the past. His reputation may be fearsome, but it does not necessarily make people want to be on his side.
