Quote | |||
"Have you ever seen a little girl run so fast she falls down? There's an instant, a fraction of a second before the world catches hold of her again ... A moment when she's outrun every doubt and fear she's ever had about herself and she flies. In that one moment, every little girl flies. I need to find that again. Like taking a car out into the desert to see how fast it can go, I need to find the edge of me ... And maybe, if I fly far enough, I'll be able to turn around and look at the world ... And see where I belong." | |||

Profile
A young girl who was told by her father he would not send her to college like her brothers. She was taught her future was in finding a good husband to look after her. She would have none of that. Instead of an everyday housewife, Carol Danvers became one of the most accomplished women in recent memory:
Accepted to the Air Force Academy. Becoming one of the USAF best fighter jet pilots earning the nickname 'Ace'. Becoming a CIA Agent. Becoming NASA Head of Security. Becoming an Freelance Writer and WOMAN Magazine Editor, a Starjammer and eventually an Avenger.
Needless to say, Carol Danvers AKA Captain Marvel, is a steadfast supporter of the feminist cause and making sure women have every opportunity afforded to men. She made a career out of shattering glass ceilings, and there are very few who will not heed her words or underestimate her in a field of combat.

Description
Description:
She's currently dressed in her superhero outfit, recognizable as Captain Marvel, the design evokes allusions to a military uniform. The suit is predominantly blue, with red sturdy gloves and red combat boots. The center torso is emblazoned by a golden star, with USAF-like wings extending upwards from the star along her chest, and downwards along her upper arms. Above the wing design, the suit is red, with a standing collar decorated with golden buttons. A red belt with utility pouches sits somewhat slanted diagonally on her hip, a circular clasp with a golden star cinching it where the sash from her Ms. Marvel uniform flutters with her movements along her right hip. Unlike most female superheroes, her costume doesn't play on enhancing sexuality for an edge. She's fully dedicated to given her best, and even in her Captain Marvel uniform, all of her years in the military are apparent in how she carries herself.
History
History:
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Carol was the oldest of three children, along with her two brothers. Her father, a contractor who believed in the merits of hard work. So when the Danvers family built their own Cape Cod house, she insisted on working just as hard as her brothers, to make her father proud. Sadly, her father was a chauvinist who had very specific roles in mind for women, and girls in particular. She could never do enough to make her an equal to her brothers in her father's eyes.
An avid reader, Carol could always fleet into fantasy where everything was possible. She dreamt of becoming an astronaut and having adventures in space like the heroes of the science fiction stories she read. She even took her own hitchhiking trip in early teens to witness a Cape Canaveral launch.
Following his chauvinistic beliefs, Carol's father decided only her brothers would attend college, because as a girl, all she needed to do for a good life was find a good husband to support her. Carol decided to defy her father and make a better life for herself without his support, leaving home once she turned 18 to enlist in the Air Force Academy, intending to get her college degree while following childhood aspirations and becoming a pilot.
History2:
Carol's high motivation to prove her father wrong, carried her to the top of her class, as she quickly rose in the ranks of the Air Force, becoming one of its best fighter jet pilot, earning the nickname 'Ace' for her exploits, and rising to the rank of Colonel.
During one of her missions flying an experimental jet over Arabic air space, she was shot down and captured by Ghazi Rashid. The man tortured her for several days looking for intelligence. Carol's resolve didn't break and she endured the torture, before managing to escape on her own, reaching a CIA safehouse and providing the CIA with intelligence about Rashid and his operation instead. This incident opened the door for Carol to be assigned to Air Force Intelligence, while secretly becoming a CIA Agent.
During her work for the CIA she was a part of many field missions, working with people who would later become prominent figures in their own right, such as Logan, Colonel Nick Fury, Benjamin Grimm. Her most consistant partner and mentor was Colonel Michael Rossi.
History3:
Resigning from the Air Force and her job at the CIA, Carol was recruited to the position of NASA's Head of Security, becoming the youngest Head of Security in NASA's history. During her work for NASA she became a close friend of Dr. Walter Lawson, who later would turn out to be a Captain in the Kree Space Fleet, Mar-Vell.
Unfortunately, Carol wasn't the only one to discover who Dr. Walter Lawson really was, when Mar-Vell's nemesis Yon-Rogg kidnapped her to lure Mar-Vell into a trap. During the battle that ensued, Carol was exposed to an irradiated explosion of a Kree weapon meant to be used against Mar-Vell. Shielded by her Kree friend, her physiology was augmented and she became half Kree, possessing similar powers to Mar-Vell.
While the fight between Yon-Rogg and Mar-Vell wound up changing Carol forever, not only granting her super powers, but rendering her a different specie altogether, the aftermath of the battle meant that she was fired from her job at NASA for failure to secure the facility where the battle took place and hiding the presence of an alien, Mar-Vell, as she kept his secret identity of Dr. Walter Lawson without giving it away.
History4:
Furious with her dismissal by NASA, Carol, who as of yet was unaware of the changes she's undergone, wrote a scathing tell all book about her time with NASA. The book became a best seller, and while Carol burned all her bridges with NASA, she gained a celebrity status. This lead her to work as a freelance writer, before being hired by the Daily Bugle to become the editor of their new WOMAN magazine for women.
While working as editor of WOMAN magazine, Carol started to experience odd bouts of blackouts where she couldn't remember whole hours of her day. The result wasn't exhaustion, as she suspected, but rather the affects the Kree's Psyche-Magnitron had over her. She would at odd times become a Kree warrior, changing her outfit into a costume set after Mar-Vell. In time she came to recover from her fragmented psyche, becoming in full control at all times.
When J. Jonah Jameson found WOMAN magazine not to his liking under Carol's guidance as editor, he started getting involved, pressuring her to put articles about fashion, cosmetics and cooking recepies. The headstrong and feministicly inclined Carol was furious and started clashing with Jameson, eventually leading to her dismissal.
History5:
For the first time in her life since she was a teenager, Carol found herself unemployed, but she had just the thing to take her time. Having finally accepted the changes she's undergone, she began her superhero career as Ms. Marvel, often fighting alongside Mar-Vell who was known as Captain Marvel. She quickly became one of the premiere superheroes around.
Her success and rise to fame caught the attention of many villains who sought her demise. One such villain was Mystique, who had many of her schemes thwarted by Ms. Marvel. But Mystique found the perfect weapon, a young mutant by the name Rogue, who could steal a person's very life. Mystique engineered a crime in San Francisco, and when Ms. Marvel came like clockwork to stop her and the Brotherhood, she was met with a wildcard.
Rogue, under Mystique's instructions, latched on to Ms. Marvel and didn't let go. Ms. Marvel, who found her powers and very life being stolen from her bit by bit, struggled with Rogue all over San Francisco, before succumbing and losing conciousness at the Golden Gate Bridge. Mystique had Ms. Marvel's lifeless body tossed into the bay as the Brotherhood made their escape. This incident would change both Carol and Rogue's lives forever.
History6:
Carol was in a coma for over a year following the incident with Rogue, she has no idea who saved her, but someone fished her out of the San Francisco Bay and placed her in a hospital. When she finally woke from her coma, she had no idea who she was, where she was, and what had happened. A well regarded telepath was eventually able to restore Carol's memories, but not her emotional attachment to them, leading to anger and frustration. Carol was robbed of her memories, of her powers, and everything that made her who she was. Carol decided to take time off and figure out what to do with her life, when her unexpected heritage brought her a world of trouble.
The Brood, an alien race, were fascinated by Carol's hybrid Kree genetics, and abducted her to perform a serious of excruciating experiments on her. Among those was an exposure to an evolutionary ray that triggered her full latent potential. Not only were her powers restored, they were enhanced beyond measure to a cosmic scale, as she came to call herself Binary. She freed herself from the Brood with her tremendous new powers, and with zero attachment to Earth, took to adventuring in space.
During her adventures in space, Binary sought increasingly for more and more challenges, besting them all with ease, until she finally came about her greatest challenge of them all: saving the Earth from a sun expanding at an unnatural rate. While she utlimately succeeded, that feat injured Carol greatly, and she burned out her cosmic powers as Binary, leaving her stronger than she ever was as Ms. Marvel, but far below her abilities as Binary.
History7:
Though she had the occasional slipup of undertaking superheroing while drunk, leading to some less than proud moments, Carol struggled to control herself. In her lowest point, she reflected on her dear friend, and realized something important. She never was Carol, she never was Ms. Marvel, she never was Binary, and she definitely shouldn't be Warbird. What defined her was never war, nor heroics, it was striving to be the best she could ever be. Even as far back as when she was a little girl told by her father she cannot have higher education, and proving him wrong. She was a force for good, like her dear friend Mar-Vell, and in tribute to him, she decided she'll overcome her alcoholism and be the best damned superhero anyone had ever seen, Captain Marvel. To that end she joined the Avengers, doing her best to make a difference, and be a strong voice for justice, for good, and for women who are facing barriers.
Personality
Personality:
Carol is also highly competitive, striving to always do the best she can, and if possible, be the best. Perhaps it's the Air Force Academy that helped instill this competitive spirit in her, but she always had a drive to finish top of her class. Be the best fighter pilot in her squadron. Shatter glass ceilings and achieve roles that normally wouldn't be open to women. Her life is full of achievements she wouldn't have attained without her drive for success and being the best she can be.
Carol is also quite the confrontational character, when faced with aggression, she will step up to face it. When someone tries to overpower her, she will push back as hard as she can. She will make sure to be hard, state her opinion and fight for it. She is not one to wilt before aggressive people. If anything she loathes bullies.
Carol expects others to try their best, and at times can be overly critical of people who don't live up to their potential, or at least don't show signs of even trying. She can be blunt when she tries to motivate someone to better themselves.
Abilities
Alien Physiology:
As her DNA was altered by the Psyche=Magnitron to Kree-Human hybrid, Carol's physiology isn't human, and as a result she is quite enhanced. Superior strength, stamina, durability, resilience to diseases, ability to survive harsh environments such as the vacuum of space. She is also gifted with the "Seventh Sense" (+abi Carol/Seventh Sense) possessed by Kree women.
Energy Absorption:
Carol is able to absorb a wide array of energy forms, empowering all of her abilities. It's why attacking her with energy based attacks or concussive weapons is a terrible idea. The more she's hit, the stronger and faster she becomes, while her own energy attacks are empowered as well. This ability is a result of the Brood's experimentation on Carol, while she was Binary she could absorb the equivalent of a binary star system. But now the ability is reduced to the still quite impressive point of being capable of absorbing a nuclear explosion. At higher end of energies, Carol's body starts to glow and erupt corona-like energies at random. At about her limit, Carol might be sufficently charged to regain her Binary form temporarily (restricted to plots / staff approval).
Energy Projection:
Carol can project powerful photon blasts, equivalent to peak power repulsor blast from Iron Man. This is another ability that was unlocked by the Brood's experiments. The more energy she absorbs the more powerful the energy she projects can become. She has fine control over this power, able to generate a strobe light effect to incapacitate her foes, heat up food or an entire room, which might be more handy for teammates in day to day life. She can also use the energy to enhance her fists, engufling them in photon concussive energy as she throws her punches.
Flight:
Carol can fly at Mach-3 within the atmosphere, her control of her flight is tremendous, able to turn on a dime even at her top speeds. Her vast experience from the Air Force makes her an expert in aerodynamic and aerial combat, and she often uses this expertise to outmaneuver other less experienced or knowledgable flyers. Outside the atmosphere, with sufficent charge, Carol can reach near C speeds in space travel.
Healing Factor:
This power is a direct bi-product of her energy absorption power, the more energy she absorbs, the more her metabolism increases, allowing her to quickly regenerate great injuries.
Invulnerability:
Impervious to most weapons and attacks, Carol can take relentless punishment without injury. Bullets bounce off her, blades can shatter against her body, and heavy armaments such as rockets and grenades she can simply absorb to become even stronger, just as she does energy attacks. The best way to attack Carol would be through telepathy, or if a foe was stronger than her, and even than she tends to give as good as she gets.
Molecular Control:
Carol can utilize molecular control to transform her clothes, something that comes in handy when she needs to change to her superhero costume on zero notice. Who needs shopping when you have a bit of molecular control. This action is accompanied by a flash of light.
Seventh Sense:
Thanks to becoming a Kree-Hybrid, Carol gained the natural ability that all Kree women have, dubbed the Seventh Sense. An ability to precognitively perceive danger before it takes place, similar to Spider-Man's Spider Sense. This ability also enhances the way Carol reads a fight in real time, making her very tacticly efficent.
Super Agility:
Carol has superhuman agility and reflexes, making her capable to operate at the super speeds she can achieve. She easily evades bullets, and can perform acrobatic feats beyond humans.
Super Speed:
Carol can move to supersonic speeds, faster than the human eye can follow. While flying she tries to keep to Mach-3 within the atmosphere and only pushes for faster speeds when outer space travel is required. If she manages to tap her Binary form (restricted to plots / staff approval) she can reach faster-than-light speed in cross galaxy travel.
Super Stamina:
Carol's stamina and drive is ridiculous, capable of fighting for an entire 24 hours period before tiring. She used to push herself to exhaustion before she became a Kree-Hybrid, now she's far more capable and has the will power to find her limits if necessary.
Super Strength:
Skills
Close Quarters Combat:
Carol has been extensively trained in CQC, both armed and unarmed. She's further improved by gaining the knowledge and training of an expert Kree warrior from the Psyche-Magnitron incident, granting her skills in Kree and Shi'ar martial arts.
Firearms:
As her line of duty as USAF Officer and CIA Agent, Carol has undergone extensive training in marksmanship and use of various firearms. Thanks to the Psyche-Magnitron incident, she is also an expert in various alien forms of weaponry.
Kree Knowledge:
During the Psyche-Magnitron incident, Carol has been imprinted with knowledge and experience taken directly from Mar-Vell, a Captain in the Kree Space Fleet. This left Carol with the knowledge of a Kree Warrior. She knows about their culture, military, language, martial arts, politics and technology.
Pilot:
Carol is an ace pilot literally having earned the nickname 'Ace' for her exploits in the USAF. She is also an expert in piloting Kree, Shi'ar and Skrull starships.
Polygot:
From her years in spying and intelligence work, Carol is fluent in English, Russian, German and Japanese. She's also conversational in Spanish, French, Arabic and Mandarin. Because of her genetic structure merging with Captain Mar-Vell's during the Psyche-Magnitron incident, she is also fluent in Kree, Shi'ar and conversational in Rajaki.
Spycraft:
With vast experience in Air Force Intelligence, CIA and NASA, and years in running field operations, Carol has seen and done it all in the field of spycraft. She knows all about subterfuge, stealth, interrogation, infiltration, disguise, and had to personally withstand torture several times in her life.
Writing:
Resources
Cia:
Carol also served in the CIA while with USAF Intelligence, she has access to information and contacts that most would not have. If she's in a bind, there are certain agents she can always count on for support. One in particular has saved her twice from captivity.
Finance:
Carol has quite a few savings from over the years, and is still getting pension from the USAF and royalties from her books. She can live comfortably despite dedicating her life to superheroism as a member of the Avengers.
Nasa:
While most of her contacts with NASA has been burned thanks to her tell all book, Carol still has a handful of contacts she could use if she ever needed anything from the space agency.
Usaf:
Weaknesses
Alcoholism:
Carol has been through unspeakable abuse, torture and harrowing experiences in her life. Being as strong and proud as she was, Carol would not open up to others about her difficulties, weaknesses and suffering. She kept it all locked away inside, keeping the impervious and strong outlook on the outside. But there was only so much she could contain and eventually she took to drowning these hardships with alcohol. While she mostly keeps sober these days, there's always a risk, always a temptations, it's something she can't resist forever. She only tries to contain it to private moments, and avoid public debacles.
Dares:
Carol has always been competitive and ambitious to prove others wrong, show she can do whatever she sets her mind to, shatter glass ceilings and be the best that she can be. The problem is that the drive and passion are so strong in her, that when someone speaks the magic words "I dare you..." she often finds it hard to resist rising to the challenge. Stupid as it may sound, it can often lead her into situations she would have avoided with some forethought.
Enemies:
Spending years as a successful woman in male dominanted fields, be it the USAF, CIA or NASA had left Carol with quite a few enemies. People who would enjoy crushing her or at least her reputation and those dear to her. Than there are countless of villains who would like revenge on Ms. Marvel. She knows she can expect no mercy if she slips up in her alertness, as she learned from Mystique and her secret weapon, Rogue.
Overload:
While Carol is always able to absorb more and more energy, at certain levels she can get enough to tap into her Binary potentials. Because of the burnout she's been through while stopping the sun from destroying the Earth, she can't quite handle such power levels like she used to and the energy will eventually start to seep out. At first her eyes and hair will glow, then her entire body, then errant photon projections would flare out like a corona. If she's deliberately fed too much energy and doesn't release enough on time she could inadvertantly create a nuclear explosion to harm all around her. The last thing she wants is to be the cause of death of millions of innocents, so she's usually very self concious about not storing too much energy.
Ptsd:
Carol has been kidnapped, captured, had her jet shot down, been experimented on by aliens and has gone through torture several times in her life. Ontop of it all, she is the only person to have had the pleasure of Rogue latching on to them without letting go. She literally had all of her memories, powers, and very life drained out of her. Once her memories were restored, she had no emotional attachment to them, leaving all of her life experience to that point like photographic images of someone else's life. Having no relation, no attachments and no emotions left Carol very lonely and very empty. Her method of coping was alcohol which lead to alcholism, but every now and then she suffers bouts of PTSD as a result. Being strong willed and a fighter, she almost never allows it to happen in the company of overs, but every now and then slip ups may occur.
