Passerby Improvisations
Date of Scene: 22 September 2024
Location: Fred's Diner - Mutant Town
Synopsis: Accidental meeting of Firestar and Havok at Fred's Diner. Just casual. Nothing exciting. Life changes.
Cast of Characters: Havok, Firestar

Havok has posed:
Fred's Diner - It's a long room with a kitchen attached on one side. While the other side is a row of booths against windows. Dividing the two is a walkway and a long serving bar. The diner is always operating, 24/7. And often busy. Currently there are 6 patrons scattered around, two waitresses and Fred himself cooking in the back. Alex Summer is one of the 6 patrons who is sitting at the far end of the diner in a booth looking out the window. In front of him on the table are the remains of his dinner. A cleaned plate, flatware, and a bubbly clear soda that's half consumed. Currently Alex is wearing jeans, a black long sleeved crew neck shirt, and sneakers. He stares emptily at the passerby's out on the sidewalk. Not focused on any one, just lost in thought.
Firestar has posed:
Angelica makes her way towards Fred's. It isn't a common stop, but not unusual. She walks past the window and looks inside. Noting the empty stare from Alex she gently taps the window and then makes her way to the door.

She walks his direction, but slows to offer,"Good evening Alex." She doesn't assume she can just take a seat so she glances around to the available tables,"You and Lorna doing OK?"
Havok has posed:
Her tapping the window got his attention. His blue eyes focused and there was recognition a second later. He smiled and then watched as she headed for the door to come inside.

Alex watches Angelica approach. Her greeting is met with his own and he says with a smile, "Hey."

Perhaps he doesn't want to actually address the question or maybe he still needs to process it. So he doesn't really answer. Then he pushes the plates to the outer edge of the table, clearing off the opposite side and he says, "You're welcome to join me. I've already eaten, but I'll be glad to keep you company while you do. I might even have more fries."
Firestar has posed:
Sliding her bag off of her arm, Angelica takes a seat as she is invited. A nod and she replies,"Thank you. I am actually out and about without books to keep me company." Once she is settled a little, a waitress passes by and drops a menu while taking her drink order. When the woman is gone Angelica looks at him again,"So you look like you were pretty deep in thought when I walked by. You good?"
Havok has posed:
"Deep thoughts by Jack Handy, more like it.", answers Alex with a chuckle then he clarifies, "I was sort of zoned out. Not really thinking about much. Just tired. It's been a really long... month? Three months? I'm pretty sure I was falling into a food coma when you came along - luckily you saved me."
Firestar has posed:
A soft chuckle and she admits,"I haven't through of that in a long time. My grandmother loved SNL. It sort of seeped in even if it's been a while." Listening to him mention the long month or three she nods,"Life is never dull. Would we have it any other way?" she suggests,"Food coma isn't all bad, but the waitress might slip you more food to make sure you stay there."
Havok has posed:
"She's evil like that... more tips. But yeah.. I like busy. I don't like running in the same circles over and over. I'm sure you get that, too." He will sip on his drink thoughtfully while the waitress returns and takes Angelica's order. He mutters something about, "Speak of the devil." and when asked by her what he said, he answers, "More fries and sips please." with a smile.

Then once she's gone. "So what have you been up to?", Alex asks thoughtfully.
Firestar has posed:
"Their hourly wage tends to be abismal as I hear so yeah. Got to do what they got to do." she agrees. She smirks a little when he speaks of the devil and the rest that ensues.

Once the waitress is gone she tells him,"Nothing too exciting. New semester at NYU. Not many extra curriculars to speak of really. Too many other responsibilities for that sort of things."
Havok has posed:
"NYU... wow. I guess I totally forgot you were in school. For whatever reason I thought you were my age. Then again, you look nothing over 22." then he realizes how that could have sounded like he was flirting and he then course corrects by asking, "What are you studying?"
Firestar has posed:
She laughs softly and shakes her head,"I got a little bit of a late start on college. Spent some time up in Canada and had a little health issue." she tells him. If she thinks he is flirting, she doesn't mention it. When he changes the subject, she follow along,"I study Physics. Likely as not I will be looking for a place to teach after I get my degree and push on to a Masters, maybe a Doctorate."
Havok has posed:
"Doctorate... ugh." Alex says with an annoyed tone after listening intently to the depths of her past and goals in completion. Then he adds, "That's what I've wanted to finish for the past two years. But things keep getting in the way. We've got all the research. It's just a matter of compiling it to support our thesis. It's like so close.. yet so far away. Best recommendation, don't start a doctorate unless you're guaranteed not to be interrupted by evil mutant attacks."
Firestar has posed:
She smirks and nods,"Yeah. The doctorate was my late mother and late grandmother's dreams. Since I don't forsee a time in my life where there isn't an evil mutant threat or the League doesn't have some nasty bad thing in the area I suspect the Masters will be the final stop at least for now. Maybe when I am in the forties or somthing."
Havok has posed:
"Forties is the best bet. By then the villains will be focused on the younger generation. Maybe I should retract our application and resubmit it in 20 years." Alex grins and then sips more before adding, "So the League. Do yall hang out up in space wearing space pajamas and lingerie like we do at the x-mansion? Cause that's all the rave."
Firestar has posed:
She smirks at the idea of the villains wanting the younger kids. The mention of the League gets a winks,"We hang out in space sometimes. At least once a month I have a 12 hours shift on the Watchtower." she tells him,"Tend to be not dressed in lingerie though. Wouldn't be too cold for me, but might be rough on the others. Can be cold up there I hear."
Havok has posed:
Alex laughs and nods, "And the only reason I ask is cause you've experienced both cultures and lack of dress code in our half. So yeah, people still walk around half dressed in the mansion. It's like a tradition. But yeah, you've been in Alpha Flight, X-Men, and now the League of Justice. That's a step up."
Firestar has posed:
She nods, laughing a little as her food and drink arrive,"You never know what to expect at the mansion for sure. I hear the situation at the Teen Titan's tower might be like that. None of us really live at the Watchtower or the Hall of Justice to my knowledge so that is a bit of the difference I would think. As for the step, it is at times. Other times it is about the same."
Havok has posed:
"Oh, I heard stories about the Teen Tower of Debauchery." he says with a chuckle. "Knowing they're worse than the New Mutants or Generation X was. Hell, way worse than the Hellions." then he segues, "Anyway, I'm glad someone got out of the Mansion and has gone on to bigger and better things. I also like that a few of us joined up with the Avengers - even though it was short lived or intermittent. It's great for public relations for mutants."
Firestar has posed:
"So far I have been to the Tower the one time. Everyone was gathered on the roof and people were talking. That was the extent, but it wouldn't surpris me if they were buck wild when nobody is looking." she admits.

She nods and admits,"The exit was dramatic, but I haven't regretted it too much. I love the League and most of those within it."

The evening passes with a meal and easy conversation. She tells him a little about the Watchtower and a few adventures she has had. She confirms Wonder Woman is amazing and Batman can be all manner of creepy, but is amazing in his way.
