Breakout Part 4
Date of Scene: 11 May 2024
Location: The Swamps of North Carolina
Synopsis: The Justice League takes on Ultra Humanite's group one last time. Thanks to some quick thinking from one Leaguer, things do not go how Ultra Humanite hopes.
Cast of Characters: Superman, Supergirl, Mon-El

Superman has posed:
The League have various members of Ultrahumanite's crew behind bars. Interrogation for the last several days haven't been fruitful.

"What is Humanite doing?"

"Getting Even."
"Leveling the Playing Field."
"Striking down Heaven from below."

The words are vague, but say a little bit. That this is not Humanite's end game.

Corbin did say one very simple thing, "Bring a lot of rum for this dismal sh*thole."

And one day there's a sudden"Zvvtt!" One member is suddenly gone.

"Finally," Corbin grins from his cell and then another "Zvvvtt!" One by one, "Zvvvt!" "Zvvvt!" until every member is gone from their cell.

Luckily the League have two things working in their favor. One, is the person running black gate that mentioned a place, "The Great Dismal Swamp" of North Carolina. It's one of the few terms that really works with the words, "Rum" and "Dsimal." A grey, murky place with trees rising from the muck toward the sky as a haze, or fog, lingers low. Everything about it looks dark, foreboding. And it has tons of space to just sprawl as this swamp is 112,000 acres of dismal landscape.

The other thing League has in their favor is the monitors, and sensors, now pointed on the swamp. Rumblings of change go unnoticed. Bubbles start to rise from waters. Small at first, but they continue. Something big starts to push forward. A black ominous shape begins to rise.

By this point the monitors are going off. The League can see the mass rising until a black dome sits in the water. From certain angle the various beams, and metal support beams, it looks like a face.

The top begins to open and a barrel starts to emerge.

Power starts to amass. And quick calculations can determine, Ultrahumanite is trying to take a shot?at the Watchtower.

Like Killer Frost said, "Striking down Heaven from below." That's what he has been building. A chance to cripple the league.

The good thing about the swamp, no Civilians.

Obviously the canon will need time to take the shot. And a lot of it is exposed in this moment.

The League has teleportation technology and they were ready for -something-. So, they are not caught off-guard exactly.
Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers just so happens to be doing monitor duty on this quiet Sunday afternoon, and she's certainly not expecting anything big to happen today. Clearly she is wrong, as major sh*** is happening right now - and it looks like it's got its sights set directly on the watch tower.

"What the heck?! What's going on?" she sends out a distress signal to any other JLAers in the area, but it seems almost everyone else is preoccupied elsewhere. Fortunately she has connections with Titans and the Legion and she sends out distress signals to them as well before she heads for the teleporter, aiming to get a better look at that thing on the ground..
Mon-El has posed:
So a giant cannon or weapon of some kind just rose out of a swamp in North Carolina, pointed straight at the JLA's headquarters. Subtle just isn't some people's style, apparently.

Well it isn't exactly Lar's style, either. When Kara arrives at the swamp, the Daxamite is also present. He doing much the same as her, attempting to assess the situation quickly before taking any action...
Superman has posed:
The structure is there for all to see and everyone Humanite has brought out is presence. He just lets out a roll of a laugh, "I see the pawns have ushered onto the battle field first. No matter," he waves a dismissive hand as he looks toward the pair.

The structre, obviously some kind of base, or Hall, is there in the black metallic glory. The canon is perfectly visible. There is one interest factoid about Godd's team. Not many can fly. Giganta can grow large.

So, the pair of Kryptonians do have an advantage amongst the group.

Humanite, witha blaster in hand will fire off rounds. Metallo will try taking a shot. The majority of people will try shooting at the heroes.

It doesn't take long for hte pair to figur eout they can actually just push forward, try to focus their own attack at the Canon sticking out of this base.

It may feel like a dog fight, but that's clearly the best strategy.
Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers glances around making quick calculations. She nods and smiles at Lar in greeting but us a bit disappointed that no one else arrived. Still, their team may be small but it is mighty.

She wastes no more time in taking to the skies, dodging as many blasts as she can although maybe a couple get through, which probably bruise a bit but nothing powerful enough to take her down more than knocking her off course a bit.

She is already focused on the canon, eyes glowing red as she sends a blast of heat vision at it, hoping to melt it or at least disrupt its function somehow.
Mon-El has posed:
Lar also smiles briefly toward Kara. Yes, a small team but certainly mighty. Although he can't but wonder if this is some kind of a trap. Anyone with more than two brain cells would know Ultrahumanite wanted this for one reason or another. Well, either way, they can't let that cannon get a shot off. So he tries to keep the baddies busy while Kara focuses on destroying the weapon, darting between their blasts and attempting to intercept them with his own thermal vision or just his body...
Superman has posed:
Kara takes off throught eh skies and she manages to dodge some of the attacks. Ice whizzes by, as does the screeching screams of a banshee, but those bruises she gets also burns. A green blast grazes her just right. That Kryptonite blast from Metallo still manages to hurt her. Red beams lance out and lick at the canon cutting into it. Energy from the canon starts to lance out from new holes. It's stable, but a bigger hole could cause the pink energy to push outward.

And maybe one of the resons why Kara gets her dodges is because of Mon El's actions. However, Humanite's blast does come to bare at Mon El and it hurts a bit. Doesn't quite knock him out of the sky, but is dierectly the reason why Kara gets hit. The Canon is still charging.

A ltitle more time and the situation may become very dire.

Metallo goes in for a second shot against Kara as he feels like he ahs a bead. The same can be said of Ultrahumanite. However, he signals for Giganta to rush toward Mon El. The Kryptonian can either take the blow or attempt to defend himsef, or counter attack.
Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers gasps and flinches in pain at the shots that hit, that sting and weaken her. But she keeps blasting at the cannon..Then stops suddenly, realizing something incredibly dangerous. Darnit, I don't know how powerful this cannon is. Even if I destroy it, it could blast all of US instead of the tower, to kingdom come!"

She tries to use the cannon as a shield against her many enemies, nodding to Lar, "Buy me a bit more time to disable the cannon!" and she's not particularly technologically adept, but she knows it might be better to put this weapon on ice rather than blast it to smithereens.

Drawing in a deep breath, this time she focuses a broad cone of ice breath on the cannon, hoping to freeze it solid so the mechanisms dont work..Or at the very least, slow it down. With any luck..
Mon-El has posed:
Kara did have a point...they hadn't been given time to assess whether destroying the cannon might actually cause an explosion that could harm innocents. It was possible that had been Ultra's plan to begin with, even.

When Giganta charges him, he rockets upward, hopefully out of her range. Looking down toward the cannon, he tries to use his x-ray vision to find a control room.
Superman has posed:
Kara does have a point and as she flies off, the entry inside the base is pretty easy enough. Various parts of the room she sin are bathed in an old orangeish light.

And right now the computer is completely unguard. It might take her a little longer than she would like to get into the system, but she gets in. However, it does mean that Mon El will need to distract more. Her sudden vansihing into the the base causes others to rush toward the base. The first being Banshee and Killer Frost.

Mone El manages to avoid Giganta with ease. And he can find the control room with ease. He could head for it or try to stop others. And the control room is where Kara just went to.

So, it's up to the duo to how to handle this.

Kara will get into the computer, but it's going to to take time.
Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers frowns as she examines the control room, clearly this cannon is much bigger than she thought. She wastes no time in trying to figure out the power source of this machine and starts pushing buttons, hopefully the right ones.
Mon-El has posed:
Lar quickly spots the control room, but it seems Kara is already on it. So he tries to keep the rest of them occupied to buy her time. He comes back down and picks up a large piece of outer paneling that had fallen during the initial fray, then throws it hard in his foes' general direction.
Superman has posed:
The power source takes a little bit to get to, but she finds it. Several large metal containers that pulse with that pink glow. She can't figure out what exactly they are, but she does figure out how to connect them. Kara could spend time figuring out what they are, how to disengage them, and that would take time. Maybe a bit of skill, or some dumb luck. She could also take a chance and rip them away from the necessary chords that keep them plugged in.

Mon El sees Kara is on it, he could have givenher some help maybe point something out, but he picks out a large black beam that groans as he pulls it free with a "CHNK!" and then he's able to toss it at anyone on the ground. If he hurls it like a Javelin he could easily remove a specific target from the filed. If he tosses it sideways, Mon El might hit multiple people.
Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers glances at the complex controls and mutters a curse under her breath. She really doesn't have time to figure things out although having some knowledge of modern Kryptonian technology and advanced physics lessons back home may help a little in making a calculated guess when she continues to press buttons that hopefully depower or slow it down. The essential cables are noted and if her initial efforts make no difference she will start pulling out those cables next.
Mon-El has posed:
Lar goes for a big sideways toss, going for covering as much area as he can to stymie their efforts to get to Kara.
Superman has posed:
Everything starts to slow. It's not off, but the power output slows by at least half. She knows she could maybe freeze the cables and cause a shut down or even disconnect the sourse from the cable. Or she could stay the course and try for a total shutdown.

On the outside the lights to the place warble and the canon's charge dims. It's still working, but something has definitely thrown a metaphoorical wrench in it.

Mon El's toss takes out Metallo, Giganta and Nick Necro. That trio is down.

Kara can hear others moving through the bast, but freezing blast to the door would stop them. It would give her more time to think without th e pressure from this group.

Everyone appears on the ropes, Humanite shows frustration on his face for the first time in months. So, he tries to open fire on Mon El. Just wild shots as mon El is a constant thorn in his side. A well thought out plan is going up in metaphorical flames. The daxamite may blame him.
Supergirl has posed:
Kara Danvers smiles a bit as she sees it's working but not quickly enough. And Lar is gonna run out of steam sooner or later.

"Darn, not fast enough!" she mutters and after pushing a few more buttons, she ends up pulling out some of the cables after making some more calculated guesses. "That should stop it, I hope.." but she gets ready to freeze the whole thing if that doesn't do the job.
Mon-El has posed:
Lar turns his focus toward Ultrahumanite as the brains behind the operation starts blasting wildly at him, frustration clear upon his face.

The Daxamite darts back and forth in the air trying to avoid the shots while intercepting some of them with his thermal vision.

He waits until Ultra is out of ammo or overheated, whichever type of weapon he has, then rushes at him but doesn't quite strike, instead he just sort of corners the man. "I don't know what you were planning, but did you really think leaving this thing unprotected was going to go well for any of you?" he challenges, folding his arms.
Superman has posed:
Everything with the canon stops. Everythign is quiet and still. The Ultrahumanite hears it all power down and he turns. Kara actually unplugged the machine -safely- as nothing lashes out or comes for her.

By this time Humanite is cornered and sees the powered down machine. He ccries outm, "MY MAGNUM OPUS!" daggers are shot at Mon El. "I personally blame you for this folly. Make my words here, I shall not forget this day," he practically spats despite the calm words, the giant ape is bubbling with anger.

Now, the only thing that's left for the duo is to apprehend all of the villaisn one last time. Well, save for the couple that left. However, their loyalty broke from this group a bit ago. No honor amongst thieves.
