Known at first as a dilettante, a member of high society due to the size of her trust fund, Janet has since stepped out on her own with her own fashion design studio. Her keen eye for fashion coupled with her business sense has set Janet in the upper echelon of fashion. In addition, it is public knowledge that the jet-setting Janet van Dyne is also the high-flying hero known as the Wasp. As the Wasp, Janet uses her size-changing abilities and bio-electric stinger bolts to defend those that are unable to defend themselves.

Dr Henry Pym implanted genetically engineered cells beneath Janet's skin at her shoulder blades. These cells allow Janet to produce insect-like wings upon reducing her height to 4 inches or less. Over the years, these cells have multiplied, allowing Janet to retain her wings to heights up to 4 feet tall. The wings grow as she does, retaining the same proportion in size to that of the rest of her body.
With her wings, Janet is able to fly at speeds up to 38 miles per hour for up to one hour without tiring appreciably. Her flight maneuvering capabilities are similar to that of her namesake, the wasp. She is able to hover, dart back and forth with ease and, through intensive training, fly upside down.

Wasp has the ability to control insects using implanted, retractable antennae in her forehead. There aren't many occasions where this power would prove useful but one never knows when they might need to summon up a horde of locust, or a swarm of killer bees. She can communicate with any insects within a 2.5 mile radius around herself. Not much use in the desert or on the ocean of course.

The alteration to Janet's body with Pym Particles has given her the ability to greatly alter her body's size, mass and strength. Most commonly she uses this ability to reduce her size down as far as the size of an actual wasp. As her size decreases, her strength greatly increases, such that even at only a half inch in height she can bend a one inch diameter length of rebar in half . She can also choose to retain her standard body size mass even when as small as an insect, giving her the ability to quite literally throw her weight around.
Using the same principle as for shrinking, only reversed, Wasp can increase her size, mass, and strength. At ten feet tall she can lift 1000lbs. Each time her size increases, her strength dramatically follows suit. At twenty five feet tall, she can lift 10 tons. At fifty feet, she can lift 30 tons. At one hundred feet tall, she can lift 50 tons. Beyond one hundred feet tall, the Law of Diminishing Returns seems to take over. The amount of strength needed simply to support her body's size and weight becomes so great that she actually begins to get weaker. Regardless of how far she chooses to increase her size, it still takes a lot of energy and creates a lot of strain on her physically. It is a power she only relies upon during emergencies.
< wasp's sting >------------------------------- Wasp can emit powerful Bio-electric blasts from her hands. She can control the power levels of the blasts so that she can simply stun an opponent or, at full power, blast through reinforced concrete up to 18 inches thick.

Call it Women's Intuition on steroids, call it what you want, but Janet is no blissfully ignorant woman. She gets hunches and "feelings" and is, more often than not, right. Her powers of deduction are fine tuned. She can look at the abstract of a problem or situation and see just how the pieces fit into the whole - and she's usually right.

Janet's design label is known simply as "JVD". She has invested heavily into the label's success and into her employees and models that have become the "face" of her fashion work. JVD's New York Offices are located in the heart of Manhattan, including everything needed for the design of Janet's styles and visions.

No superhero can be without a proper uniform. The Wasp's uniform is custom designed from unstable particles to change size as she does - from her normal human size to her tallest or smallest forms. It offers a measure of protection against small arms (up to .40 caliber) fire but its true defense rests in her ability to become too small to hit and too fast to track. Her uniform has undergone a number of design changes to suit her taste and needs. She has kept each of them, though some are too frightening to discuss.
< wealth >---------------------------------- Janet's income from JVD is considerable, though she was already considered "independently wealthy" from her father's inheritance after his death. There really is little if anything she could want that she couldn't get due to the investments she has made with her wealth. She isn't Tony Stark or Bruce Wayne rich, but she falls nicely into the "hundreds of millions of dollars" category between all of her income sources and investments.

Janet Van Dyne is The Wasp. The Wasp is Janet Van Dyne. She doesn't wear a mask, she doesn't hide behind a hair style change or fake glasses to try and alter her appearance. Her lack of separate identities has not, yet, become a liability for her associates and allies, but it is a risk that her actions as The Wasp could easily impact her business ventures or those she cares about.

Regardless of which direction Wasp goes with her size, there are penalties she must either face or incur. If she increases her size there is a level of exertion that increases and taxes her system over all. The larger she gets, the more energy must be expended to maintain that form for any extended period of time. When she decreases her size, she can maintain her regular 5'4", 110lb mass but when that is compacted into an inch tall form, there is still the risk of getting crushed by someone (or in something) that wouldn't consider 110lbs of mass any more difficult than squishing a real wasp.
< superficial >--------------------------------
Most who do not know her tend to see Janet as being rather shallow. Not the bubble headed sort but rather the self-centered, self-absorbed sort bent on having fun and ignoring the consequences. It can affect interactions with those who have little patience for such people.
< vengeful >--------------------------------- Janet is generally a good person. However when someone crosses her or takes something from her she will stop at nothing to retaliate, perhaps even to the point of placing herself at great risk. When her father was killed by the alien his work unintentionally summoned to earth, she chose to alter her body so she could stop the alien. She did succeed, but just the same, the risks to her life and health were still incredibly high. She approaches other situations the same way - in for a penny, in for a pound.

When the Arsenal passed through the main building of the treatment plant, he punctured a methane storage tank. It caused a serious squence of explosions that rocked the whole treatment plant. On hand to help slow down the robot was Blackout who teleported into the area to investigate. The Wasp was nearby at a fashion expo and she saved the day by frying the electronics within the robot's brain core. The robot was taken to Avengers Mansion for study.
