Profile

Drafted involuntarily into the war of Hell's Kitchen, Claire Temple pits herself in dual roles: emergency nurse by day and a healer and mender of New York's vigilantes by night. Known purely by word-of-mouth, and her identity marginally sheltered to keep the monsters off her doorstep, there is alluded talk to a "night nurse" among the street-level heroes: a woman you call for the emergencies without worries of police reports or uncovered identities. She performs unparalleled surgical work in the most sparse and bereft of conditions, maintains strict doctor-patient confidentiality, and makes damn sure her patients stay alive. She's certain she's in over her head, but she's seen too much and she's sick of being afraid. What's a woman to do?

Personality

Bleeding Heart: You would have to be to sacrifice time, resources, safety, and sanity trying to keep vigilantes -- most of them FRIENDS -- stitched together in one piece. And to do it non gratis. Claire might be hanging on fresh off a double-shift and four hours of sleep in the last forty, but she'll never turn anyone away. She'll never turn a blind ear against an emergency, even one that might threaten her own unstable-at-best safety. She might even have trouble denying medical assistance to less-than-scrupulous patients, with their lives on the line. She can be curt and blunt and sass-mouthed the entire time she gives up her life to do triage in someone's basement for fourteen hours, but she'll do it without hesitation.

Pragmatic: When you're in the health industry, you don't search for cures so much as you do harm reduction. That is Claire Temple's take on the vigilante war. She believes in their fight, but it doesn't mean she's going to become a burning idealist about it, or think New York or any place else is going to be cleaned up overnight. She strafes a very sensible step away from the more passionate crusades, and tries to provide the clear head and mouthpiece of logic contrary to so many emotional pleas. After all, she's trying to keep these damn masked fools alive, and not kill themselves trying to enact their change.

Forbearing: Claire Temple has the patience of martyred saints. She can take a lot, endure a lot, and sit with a lot more, and do it without too much complaint. Past the physical tests of her exhausting double life, she can soldier the emotional side of it with an enviable strength, be it trapped in the middle of mafia wars and up to her arms in gouting blood. She keeps her cool under pressure and bears psychological weights with surprising prowess. In short, she dines on stress for breakfast.

Burgeoning Vigilante: Much as she thinks herself a healer, Claire's got the soul of a warrior. She sure gives the masks constant shit for their bad health decisions and high mortality rate for martyrdom, but she gets it -- gets their reasons why. It resonates all too strongly with her. She's tired of being afraid and, most of all, she's tired of doing nothing. At times she reconsiders what she's in, is sure it's going to someday kill her, but the fact remains: at her heart, there's no regrets. She can't close her eyes and go back to sleep and pretend the horrors out there don't exist. And one day waits on her horizon, when she realizes not even healing and mending will be enough to calm the storms in her heart. When she realizes she must do more.
