She's an ordinary high school student with a really extra-ordinary support structure; a group of professional and semi-professional monster hunters and world-savers going by the unimpressive name of the "Scooby Gang".

Description:

Dawn Summers is a teenage brunette girl, tall for her age at 170 cm (or 5'7", which is totally taller than her older sister Buffy, a fact she reminds the Slayer of at every opportunity). She's on the pale side, with hair that's a rich mahogany brown, and surprisingly straight, falling more than halfway down her back, almost to her waist. Her eyes, in contrast, are a light blue hue, and she's pretty enough for her age. (Truth be told, her nose is a bit too big for the ideal, but hey, what's a teenager without some physical issues to stress over?)

Her form is lithe and slender; either she hasn't fully finished puberty yet, or it's just not going to be all that impressive when she does. Her best bodily feature is almost certainly her legs; while they're a little coltish, it works on her frame, which is quite slender.

History:

Dawn grew up (or at least remembers growing up) with a sister who's literally the Chosen One, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, although technically shouldn't she be called Buffy the Monster Slayer? Dawn's close circle of friends includes witches, watchers, vampires, former demons... and she is an ordinary teenage girl (well, not really, but she thinks she is).

Okay, so... how to describe Dawn? Let's start off with overprotected. It's not just her theme song! Dawn is the little sister to the Slayer, in a town full of horribly bad things. (I mean, come on, United Heroes MUSH mixed Sunnydale with Blüdhaven. That's a nightmare right there). Thanks to the reality rewrite that brought her into existence, Dawn has pretty much been the "baby sister" to all the Scooby Gang. Combine that with the fact that she has no powers (that she or anyone else knows of), and she's the eternal damsel in distress. Combine that with a teenager who's already chafing against being treated like a child, and well... it's a little ticking brunette time bomb just looking for an excuse to explode (wherein here "explode" means "make really terrible decisions").

The Key:

Dawn's not really a person. Or at least, she wasn't. She's "the Key", an energy matrix that has the power to break down the walls between various realities. The monks charged with protecting it chose to do so by using a magical ritual (and tapping the Key's own dimension-travelly powers), rewriting reality to make the Key into "Dawn Summers", little sister to Buffy Summers (and thus, extended family to the whole Summers clan... like that family needed more parallel-reality hijinx).

Scooby Gang:

Dawn's sister Buffy is a professional monster-killer and Dawn hangs out with a crowd of semi-professional monster killers unimpressively called the "Scooby Gang". She's certainly no slayer, and she would never willingly do things that she would interpret as hurting "innocent people". But the key there is the "innocent people" clause. Once you cross over that fuzzy line to being a monster... yeah, she's willing to fight, especially if she feels that in so doing she could protect her family, friends, or other innocent people. Actually doing the fighting on the other hand... um, Buffy?!

Damsel In Distress:
Dawn's the damsel in distress to the degree that it literally coined the phrase "Dawn's in trouble... must be Tuesday". She very, very, very badly wants to be "special", like most of her friends; to have something that's uniquely hers and lets her stand out among them. She would go to great lengths, and make very poor choices, to achieve that.

Teenager:
Dawn's a teenager, and she's essentially "good" at heart. On the other hand, she's also willing to bend the rules or her own moral codes to get what she wants (see: teenager). She's also willing to lie like a rug. But that's general mischief and misbehaving, more in the "misdemeanour" level than "felony".

The Key:

While neither Dawn nor her family are aware of her true nature as "the Key", certain malevolent forces out there in the universe are, and they would love to get their hands on the Key and use it. A process that would probably end with the termination of Dawn-as-Dawn... even if the energy matrix persisted, the mind, identity and "soul" currently resident with it probably wouldn't.
