Profile

Manuel is presently a freelance PR Consultant. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme nor reason to his clientele, which has included everything from businesses to individual performers. In honesty, taken as a whole, his PR track record has not been great, but he's apparently a solid enough salesman to stay not only in business, but successful. His name resurfaces in the press once in a while, but the media seems to lose interest in him swiftly.

The term 'aristocratic' could spring to mind. De la Rocha's features are symmetrical and angular, with a long face and a strong, sharp jawline. His eyes are of a deep enough brown to appear black, contrasting a somewhat pale complexion and light ash-brown hair. It's difficult to find Manuel when he isn't meticulously groomed and clean-shaven, looking as though he's prepared for a red carpet or executive interview, somewhere.

Physically unimposing, De la Rocha stands a bit shy of six feet in height, and is fairly slender. From what one can tell, his musculature is rather undefined so his frame is likely the result of good genetic fortune rather and diligent exercise. His bearing is deliberate and graceful, however, moving with purpose and long-limbed fluidity.

History

Manuel is the son of an impoverished Castilian noble. While inordinately proud of this heritage, he has largely abandoned his family and has little interest in their current status or well-being. It was a simple trick of manipulation to find himself a free ride to NYU, where he coasted his way to a degree in Media and Communications.

He has casually set up a bit of a living as a freelance PR Consultant. Generally, troubled businesses or celebrities will come to him. He'll help them regain popularity, improve their image, and so far, set them up for an even more spectacular fall. His past clients do not have a particularly successful track record, but it's a simple enough matter to divert curiosity from this this fact.

Personality

Manuel de la Rocha is self-absorbed, cruel, and arrogant beneath a veneer of superficial charm. He can be charismatic, witty, and doesn't lack a sense of humor, but at the end of the day he considers himself better than most others and sees no particular reason to restrain himself from using people for his own ends and casting them aside once they've become less useful. It IS possible to win his respect via a combination of power, strength, decorum, and the occasional dash of ruthlessness.

BROADCAST EMPATH
Empath is able to manipulate neurochemicals in the brain in order to change a target's emotional state. This can be focused on an individual in line of sight with strong precision, or directed at a group with a single more broad emotional state. Use of this ability causes Empath's eyes to glow. Serious trauma, depression, or insanity can make a target resistant to Empath's influence. With individuals, the strength of Empath's influence can range from subtle to fully hypnotic. (OOC Note: Empath's abilities are heavily consent-based, and his player is quite approachable and open to discussion. )

EMPATHY

Empath is able to perceive the emotional states of individuals around him. This power is always on, and can drive him to augment certain emotional states in order rather than having to tolerate perceiving chaotic mixes of them. Often inspiring hatred toward himself is the simplest path. ( OOC Note: Empath's abilities are heavily consent-based, and his player is quite approachable and open to discussion. )

CHARISMA
Even without his abilities, Manuel is polished and at least superficially charming.

DANCE
Even sociopaths have hobbies. While not a professional, Manuel has a fondness for dance. Ballroom dancing in general, and the Spanish Bolero in particular are his specialties. He is a moderately talented amateur.

LANGUAGE
Manuel is fluent in Spanish and English.

MANIPULATION
Manuel is extremely accomplished at getting what we wants through the use of others. More than just simple unplanned abuse of his mutant abilities, he is excellent at researching and/or intuiting just who to manipulate in what way to accomplish specific goals.

MEDIA

Manuel's formal education focuses on modern mediums of communication. For obvious reasons he prefers to interact face-to-face, but he is educated and proficient in making use of digital media. His area of expertise is in Public Relations, and he is an accomplished speaker and writer in the field.

OFFICE
Manuel is leasing a fairly impressive suite that doubles as his home and office. Though his clients tend to overpay him, he hasn't actually paid the rent in months, finding it more entertaining to manipulate the landlord in a variety of ways.

WEALTH

Although descended from Spanish nobility, Manuel's family is not in possession of a great deal of liquid wealth. However, Manuel has been doing well enough for himself working Public Relations for corporations and celebrities. While somewhere on the lower rungs of such, he qualifies as 'wealthy', and has significant financial resources to draw upon.

EMPATHY
Manuel is constantly bombarded by the emotions of people around him. He tends to focus on or augment single strong emotions upon which to focus in order to keep from being overwhelmed.

SOCIOPATH
Manuel suffers a distinct lack of compassion for one that is a literal 'Empath'. He has no hesitation in making use of his power to manipulate others, and although he does possess a good deal of superficial charm, he does show little interest in hiding his lack of concern for others.

VENGEFUL

Small slights must be repaid. Manuel's empathic power makes it easy to know just what will hurt an adversary the most, and he does not exercise restraint nor show anything resembling mercy when he feels he has been disrespected.
