This is a Native American woman with dark brown eyes. Her hair is straight, or at least straightened, and pulled back into a large ponytail dangling at the back of her head. Wispy tendrils of hair double as bangs and dance over her smooth forehead. She has thin eyebrows and her dark brown eyes are crisp and vivid. She has red, red lips. She seems quite physically fit, like she's obsessed with working out or eating salad and maintaining a strict regimen of fitness, as her muscles are toned and her body is slim, trim with formal athletic training. Her dark face is painted with a contrasting white paint, which is formed into the shape of a Hand. The Hand has five fingers and the palm of the white Hand can be seen on her right cheek. Currently, she is wearing a black halter top made of stretchy spandex. It is a raven black color and it leaves her arms bare. The halter top has bands of black spandex which criss-cross over her bare stomach. Her arms are covered from elbow to hand in bandages or a white fabric of some kind. She has a couple feathers tucked into her arm bands. She wears some black cargo pants with pockets. Around her waist is a thin belt with a grey buckle. She wears some black ankle boots .

History

Maya was born deaf. Her father was Willie Lincoln, who was nicknamed Crazy Horse because of his Native American heritage but also because he was a loose cannon. He moved from the Cheyenne Reservation to New York and sent Maya to a special school for the deaf. He worked in the Union and then was recruited by the mob, to be an enforcer, dealing with issues with his own brand of justice. He grew up a tough gangster, so it was second nature.

Lincoln helped the mob became more powerful. One day, Lincoln was attacked at home, shot by mysterious people Maya couldn't see or understand because she was five. Maya went in the ambulance with her father but he didn't make it to the hospital before he died. He pressed his bloody hand to her face and this horrible moment became etched in her memory forever.

The mob took care of her, providing for her financially. Her mob father gave her old Japanese video tapes and other things of her father, and she obsessed over the films. She became so obsessed, she gained the talent to mimic and perform the tricks herself, like Jet Li and Bruce Lee's style of martial arts. She was kicked out of the special school because she was performing so well and they thought she was faking a disability. The mob sent her to Japan to attend an expensive school for gifted youngsters. There she learned other fighting skills while living with ninjas, who she met through her mob connections.

She returned to New York after her education but also because she had to know who killed her father, and what really happened. She was ignorant of the mob's true roots this whole time, and what they really did as powerful New York criminals, mostly because she didn't want to know. The mob fed on her emotional need for vengeance by telling her an evil vigilante killed her father, urging her to kill this evil jerk in return. While she prepared for revenge, Maya took jobs as a concert pianist and dancer. She also moonlighted as ECHO, using photographic reflexes to hunt down evil and brutally kill it.

Personality

Maya Lopez is an intelligent, clever, energetic woman. A normal person would be highly fulfilled by beating a handicap and finding success as an artist, but not Maya. She does not settle for very long and seems to appreciate life more when she is doing something to appreciate it. Despite this, she dwells on the past and her childhood trauma all the time, when other people would have learned to move past it after so many years. She believes in karma and often enforces it herself when things don't come out as she believes is correct. As such, her ethics and morals are only as good as the situation demands, and she's probably so obsessed with her pain and trauma that she might kill to feel better. Like many handicapped people, she doesn't want to be treated differently and is stubborn. She believes in symbolism and is spiritual, feeling the world has a way of inviting a certain destiny. Given all these characteristics, Maya is very passionate about her life as her dedication to art and revenge shows.

ECHOLOCATION
Maya may not be able to hear but her sense of touch is heightened to where she can feel things around her to a very precise level. This feeing relies on movement and the vibrations given off by people and things around her. Different objects or people give off unique vibrations. Her ability to interpret is like getting goosebumps when something happens nearby, only this happens to her at varying levels depending on how close the movement is. If people are not moving or if the vibrations are clouded or masked by other vibrations, it can be difficult to center on anything with this sense alone. Around 10 to 20 meters is probably her best range.

LANGUAGE
Echo is talented at learning languages very quickly, within a few sentences. She can do this because she can understand using visual cues, deciphering intricate details using lip reading. Her skill at decoding patterns such as in language, has made her an excellent pianist and dancer too. She has past experience with sign language, Japanese and Native American dialects from the Midwest.

PHOTOGRAPHIC REFLEXES
Maya has the ability to visually study a physical task and replicate it within a very short time, depending on what the task is. This is the foundation for her fighting style, which contains moves and styles from very talented people she's studied. She's built up this style much like a Jeet Kune Do fighter, which is a hybrid style that has no pattern, making her photographic reflexes more flexible and easily adaptable to other types of jumps, punches, rolls, kicks and wrestling she sees. This is practical in application because she can learn on the fly, often changing or adapting within a few seconds of watching another fighter throw a punch or jump. Her style is not merely mimicry alone, but understanding of what she sees and what it can do once she sees it. This is because of her excellent skill deciphering details from visual learning very quickly.

ACROBATICS
Maya can extrapolate extraordinary athletic moves from her dance training. She can jump and twist in the air like a professional from the Olympics. She has no fear of heights and her balance is really good, often because she cannot be distracted by sound.

ACROBATICS
Maya is a talented artist and is very creative. She plays piano like a professional and can mimic almost any style of performance. She has more talent in performance dance, where she can be deeply emotional on stage. She earns a living performing dance and playing piano sponsored by the local University.

LIP-READING
Maya can understand what a person is saying by reading lips. This is a visual skill, so if she can see a person pronounce words in a language she knows, she can understand. People on television, across a room, on a rooftop, through binoculars---it really doesn't matter, as long as she can see them speak a few words.

MARKSMANSHIP
Maya is a very good marksman with guns. Her weapon of choice is a sniper rifle, which she excels at because it relies on steady vision. She has practical experience using them in the field as Echo. Her talents with balance and sight are to her advantage when using deadly, precision rifles.

MARTIAL ARTS
Maya has expertise with martial arts, and has the most flexibility in use of Kung Fu. She is quick and nimble on her feet, often able to react like a top professional because she knows what moves are coming or can predict what is coming next based on the visual progression of the martial arts moves. She can adjust styles on the fly using professional masters or ninjas she's studied on TV and in person, switching from Bruce Lee to Jackie Chan to be unpredictable. She often uses paired nunchaku in her fighting.

FREELANCE
Maya is a freelance pianist and dancer, where she earns her living. She does not have a regular job, only contract positions where she has to fulfill certain criteria and dates. Her jobs are through a local University and Theater group, so she can get a job through her associates there.

JAPAN
The Ninjas of Japan have provided her training, discipline and often back her with resources, mostly information, loans, or back-up. They are mostly regional but do have interests in Philadelphia and New York she knows about. She can often trade with them there. She knows Japan from living there for a short time and can find underworld locations.

MOB
The mob supports her financially and employs her as an enforcer by playing on her need for vengeance. The New York mob bosses know her and her abilities. She earns money, and is given weapons, equipment and vehicles to do her job. Her job affords her some amount of standing too and she could get into many mob places just on authority, depending on the family and the situation.

NATIVE AMERICANS
Her father's family is Cheyenne and lives in the Midwest. This group of people are lower class working people but usually stick together, so Maya could use them for information or as other resources. Since she is Native American, Maya probably could get access to information about somebody who passed by, info about languages, history, or gangs.

WEAPONRY
Maya has a stash of weapons for her use and is often given other weapons by her employers. Her most common weapons are melee knives, swords, clubs and ninja throwing stars, but she commonly carries guns also. Her stash of guns has high-powered sniper rifles she can use from a distance or sidearms she can carry.

DEAF
Maya is deaf and cannot hear a sound. She can't use the telephone like a normal person and can't listen to the radio, although she might be able to know both devices are on and working. This makes her reliant on her other senses to survive, mostly sight. She cannot communicate if she cannot see, so is at a disadvantage in the dark and people wearing masks or helmets might have a hard time communicating with her. She can only read lips if she can see the person communicating.

DOUBLE IDENTITY
Echo is a passionate part of her inner self, as a mercenary who wants revenge. Her consideration for her identity doesn't keep it very secret, because she doesn't often wear a mask. She often has to balance her lives as Echo and Maya, because she doesn't want to lose herself to either one. One identity might become overly involved and absorb her time at the expense of another commitment, which is an issue.

MOB
Maya Lopez is supported financially by the mob and she doesn't know all that goes on, but she doesn't ask. She probably wouldn't be allowed to leave without a confrontation and they would probably follow her, or attempt retribution because they know Echo is Maya Lopez. Echo is on call for the Mob and ignoring them would lead to questioning. The mob plays on her emotional need for vengeance by encouraging her identity as Echo, while she hunts for evil vigilantes.

VENGEANCE
Maya is obsessed with vengeance and believes karma needs enforcing. She's so obsessed with this idea that she's become a vigilante as a result. Kicking others and enforcing justice is mostly fulfilling for her because it feels good, as a short term fix for her past wrongs and her pain. She constantly dwells on her pain when others would have moved on.
