INSPIRATION

As the personification of War, Ares is able to motivate people astoundingly well. He can move individuals to great deeds of heroics and sacrifice, cause a military unit to give its all and to battle with the rage of the gods themselves. He is a man who can imbue words with such import that people hearing them will find deep wells within themselves and be able to meet anything that opposes them.

OLYMPIAN PHYSIQUE

As the God of War and an Olympian, Ares is gifted with a great physique. He is staggeringly strong, able to life up to a hundred tons and perhaps more when his rage is at its peak. He is incapable of becoming tired or sick, though certain poisons can still effect him albeit in a weakened manner. He is capable of surviving in a vacuum. He is incapable of dying from age and can recover from even the most grievous of wounds at an accelerated pace.

TELEPORTATION

As a god, Ares is able to teleport from one place to another instantly. Primarily this ability is used to travel between Earth and Olympus or other Pantheon dimensions, but it can also be used to travel to other locations on Earth. However this form of teleportation is slow and requires several minutes of concentration, so is useless in a combat situation unless he has several minutes uninterrupted.

WEAPONRY

As the God of War, Ares is able to summon to him a myriad of weapons suitable to conflict. He can draw forth axes, swords, maces, almost any variation of weaponry should he need. These extend to firearms, but never something larger than he can physically wield. These weapons are usually magical in nature, at times connected to mystical phenomenon of the past, capable of cleaving through most other non-magical objects or breaking the heaviest of armors.

COMBAT

What is there to say about the God of War in battle? He has so few peers in this regard. Is there a weapon that exists? He is deadly with it. Is there a fighting style that died out thousands of years ago? He is a master of it. That is not to say that he is infallible, rather that he is capable of matching against any other being in the field of battle and give a powerfully good accounting for himself.

CONSTRUCTION

Of late, John Aaron has focused his life on the trade of construction. This expertise reaches across a myriad of projects. He has worked on a site constructing skyscrapers and doing high iron work, all the way to helping an acquaintance construct his own home. He is knowledgeable of carpentry, plumbing, even electrical work. However, this work does not come easy to him, it takes more focus than normal yet he is able to make a living at it.

FARMING

Several lifetimes ago, Ares attempted to give it a go as a farmer in several time periods. He has not been successful. He has a decent passing knowledge with it, knows what the right methods are to employ depending on soil type... yet he is terrible at getting things to grow and thrive. Even his houseplants at home always die messily.

LEADERSHIP

Though his sister Athena is perhaps the better leader, not that he would admit it, there are few others as capable as him at the leading of men. Whether it's into battle or to focus on a shared endeavour, he is extremely good at reading his men and getting them motivated. He knows how to set focus, how to delegate, and is exceptional at keeping them on task. He inspires not just from his godhood, but also from leading by example and with a good dose of charisma.

ARTIFACTS

Some people would call these antiques. THEY ARE WRONG. The God of War does not go antiquing. However, over his lifetime of bloody plunder he has accrued a good amount of nigh unto priceless artifacts over the years. These are in places of holding across the world, some of them mystical but mostly mundane. He has access to ancient pieces of artwork, historical weapons, and many precious metals and gems from ages past.

EMPLOYMENT

Ares is gainfully employed by local Construction Union #447. He thusly makes pretty darn good money. Not that he needs it hugely, but it gives a good cover for his lifestyle which is fairly modest. He has a good house in Queens, a decent SUV, and can afford a few luxuries now and then.

HERCULES

Man, if there's one thing that gets under Ares' skin it's that upstart Hercules. Doted on by dad and treated like the golden child. Life is really unfair. But really, if there is one person in the world that Ares would make unexist, it would be Hercules. It seems like no matter what his half-brother does, it always riles Ares up and there is little chance the two will ever see eye to eye.

HIND'S BLOOD

As a Greek deity, Ares is especially vulnerable to the blood of the Golden Hind. It is capable of poisoning and crippling Ares to the point of helplessness, and with extended exposure could end in death.

RAGE

Underneath it all, Ares is a primal being of utter rage and bloodlust. He has a reasonable amount of control over it at this point, but it is entirely feasible other beings might be able to manipulate him and aim him like a weapon by playing upon his anger. It usually takes more than just offering insult, but a clever individual would be able to create a scenario where he could set the God of War off like a weapon.

RITUALISTIC MAGIC AND PRAYER

As a magical being and deity Ares is vulnerable to certain rituals when undertaken by individuals of either a mix of magical power, direct connection, powerful worship, or similar. It is possible for him to be summoned and bound by a powerful enough magic-user and petitioned for a boon or the like, at the most bound to a geas of a sort. Though other immortals or peers from other pantheons can call or summon, the binding is only possible by beings of finite cognition or mortality. It is also feasible for prayers or petitions to be heard but only if sufficient connection and sacrifice be made, strong enough to draw attention. Though the risks of such are considerable.
