Lyssa is a plain ordinary transgender girl from the country who just happens to have enough lung power to huff and puff and blow down a wooden house. She hopes to keep her head down and just get on with her life.

Unfortunately, those pesky morals, that annoying compassion, the fact that she gets misgendered and discriminated against a lot still, and the fact that she is poor enough to have to sleep next door to the shadowy places just keeps getting in the way.

History

Lyssa was born Kevin Brannon, an only child in a small town in Idaho, and raised as a boy without much success. She never fit in with the other boys around, and her family was disturbed by her girliness coming from what they had expected to be their son.

As she got older, she was bullied and harassed by other kids and adults for not fitting in; tired of being bruised up, she started learning how to fight from a friendly police officer, her father, then her uncle, who had been a boxing coach, and had a judo coach in the studio. She was good at it, and at things like running, never seeming to get tired. Her father encouraged her, feeling that it was bringing out the man in him, and eventually she was too skilled to bully even if she did feel like putting some lipstick on at school sometimes.

It wasn't until she was seventeen that she really noticed her absurd and physics-defying lung capacity, and she kept it secret from everyone in her hometown. As soon as she was eighteen, she left home with a backpack and went to the big city without a plan, hoping to be able to be herself and get away from her family.

I'm pretty sure the world is out to get me - I have plenty of evidence for that - but there are some really nice people too. I really just want to be left alone, and I am really sick of people who hate people for no good reason. And I hope horrible things happen to them!.. um.. like that.. ugh, I can't just let bad things happen to them, I guess I HAVE to help them. I can't really stand seeing people being hurt, even if they really really deserve it. But I'm going to be grumpy about it for days! *sighs*

FLIGHT
With the help of some sort of gliding wings, Lyssa can fly by being her own jet engine. Good subsonic speed, average maneuverability, cannot readily hover, and it ties up her ability to use her breath for anything else. Without some kind of wings, her maneuverability is abysmal to the point of being dangerous and needing all her attention just to land.

SUPER-BREATH

Lyssa has an absurd lung capacity and strength. She can inhale all the air in a small house, hold her breath for a day or three even in a vacuum, and blow it out in a narrow jet with force similar to a large jet engine or very serious tornado. Fairly close in, it is enough to send people, cars, and some trees flying, shatter windows, etc.

She is immune to airborne contaminants and the like, and can breathe just about any gas that has a little bit of oxygen in it. She doesn't get winded, so can exert herself longer than most.

MARTIAL ARTS
I am nine. A bully has cornered me, and left me bruised. My father looks at me in disgust, and declared that I need to learn how to throw a punch.

I am ten. The bully takes a swing at me, and I fought back.. And then his friend tackles me from behind. Officer Sera patches me up, and teaches me a few tricks. When I get home, my father looks disgusted and sends me off to a gym to learn how to fight RIGHT.

I am twelve. The bullies corner me. One raises his hand, and I floor him with a jab to a straight to the body. I turn and step in behind the club being swung at me, then drive my elbow into his face, drop my elbow onto his arm, turn in time to sprawl the tackle, hook and drive my knee into his nose. Everyone else runs.

There is no fourth attack, but I keep training because it gets my father off of my back, and because I know there will be more someday. Plus, being on the team means that some of the jocks actually like me.

Mixture of judo, high school wrestling, and boxing.

MEDICAL CRAMMING

I have had to research all of the standards and convince doctors of how to do basic things that they seriously should know how to do. I know how to read medical journals, which ones are trustworthy, and all the language in it so that I can make sense of it. I might not be a doctor, but give me a couple hours and an internet connection, and I can come up with the same answers. I know if one is lying to me, and I know how to find a better one. I know fairly advanced first aid.

DYSPHORIA
While she could probably make life easier for the moment by presenting as a boy more often, it is uncomfortable and awkward for her to do so. She has cringes and other odd reactions that are enough to be noticeable to anybody paying attention in such a situation, and has mannerisms that look effeminate to people.

MINORITY

Lyssa is transgender, and does not yet pass. As a visible part of a group of people that many consider acceptable to treat badly, encounters with authority or random strangers (of the NPC sort usually) tend to turn out badly more often. People often don't give her the benefit of the doubt.
