Profile

Hatred and anger rules the life of Frank Castle AKA The Punisher. After many tours of duty as an elite special forces soldier, he resigned to a position as a Special Forces trainer in upstate New York. His peaceful life with his wife and children didn't last, however, after a fateful day in the park saw his family slaughtered in the crossfire of a mob hit.

From that day onward, Frank has waged a one-man war on crime, dedicating himself body and soul to drowning the Underworld in a river of criminal blood. His methods have made him feared by the men and women he hunts, but it has also set him at odds with the wider hero community who, as a general rule, abhor killing.

Frank Castle is a man of few distinguishing features. His face is rugged and distinguished by lines beyond his age and the numerous faded scars that criss-cross his features. His build suggests a brick, squarish and solidly built, practical -- not aesthetic. Similarly, his dark hair is kept trimmed short, once again a pragmatism chosen over looks.

He doesn't keep up with the trends or the fashions, his various outfits usually assortments of solid colored t-shirts and jeans. The only thing he ever wears that truly stands out is a black t-shirt, a recognizable, stylized skull spray-painted over the chest with white paint.

History

Frank's history is short, brutal, and tragic. Not much is known of his early life, but all records agree that he was one of the most decorated soldiers to ever pass through the US Marine Corps. He was hand-selected to participate in special training assignments with the Airborne School, Navy SEALS, and received cross-training with the Australian Special Air Service Regiment. Needless to say, when he finally asked to be reassigned as a Special Forces Trainer in New York to spend more time with his family, his request was met with grudging but unanimous support. He had earned the position, but many were sorry to see him leave active duty.

One day, on a picnic in Central Park with his wife and two children, the Castles were unwittingly involved in a Mob hit gone wrong. In the crossfire, his wife Maria and his children Lisa and Francis were gunned down in front him.

It wasn't until he was failed by a corrupt and horribly inefficient justice system that he finally broke and took it upon himself to find vengeance for his family by becoming the Punisher.

Personality

Many would argue that Frank Castle doesn't actually possess a personality. They would insist that at this point he's simply rage and hatred personified. A mindless beast unwittingly unleashed upon the Underworld by the very people he's seeking to utterly wipe out. Frank would probably more or less agree. Still, he's shown in the past that bits of him still remain. Though he's obsessed to the point of suicidal recklessness with his mission, the very few periods of respite he's gained and the occasional interactions with people who he's not actively trying to kill, or who aren't trying to do the same to him, reveal the humanity that's left in his battered soul. He's proven capable of mercy on very rare occasions, but has also shown definitively that he regrets absolutely none of his actions, despite his kill count being grotesquely high. He's a man of unbending will and unshakeable resolve, and if anyone could complete his Sisyphean task, it's Frank Castle.

ENGINEERING
Frank's not exactly an innovator. He's not interested in reinventing the wheel or developing new and exciting ways to kill criminals. However, he's trained himself to modify, repair, and maintain his firearms, weaponized vehicles, and other equipment as well as rig up explosives and other mechanical traps. All in all, he's actually pretty skilled. Still, he's not about to invent a powersuit or anything. His engineering knowledge is strictly limited to the practical and revolves exclusively around his war on crime. Interestingly enough, however, he's also a pretty talented hacker and programmer. Again, his knowledge is practical and doesn't stray into theoretical or developmental areas, but he's been known to stump quite a few high level cyber security experts when they've tried to break his encryption on his digital assets.

MARKSMANSHIP
As might be expected of a man who's half man, half armory, Frank Castle is an accomplished marksman. A lot of what he does is based on rote military drills, skills developed to help a soldier fire without thinking at moving or concealed targets. It allows him to react faster at the cost of limited accuracy to quickly appearing threats. However, he's also trained extensively with more precise weapons like sniper rifles and is a world-renowned killer with a ranged weapon in his hands.

MARTIAL ARTS
The majority of Frank's training comes from a variety of special forces units scattered across several branches of the US military and some cross-training with the fighting forces of other nations. Therefore, his particular style of fighting his brutal, efficient, and deadly. He's talented enough to improvise on the fly and keep him amongst the deadliest empty-handed fighters on the planet, though he's still more deadly with an actual weapon.

MILITARY TRAINING
After years of serving in the military and participating in a multitude of training courses, Frank is well versed in a variety of different skills including but necessarily limited to:

Field Medic Training: He's not a doctor. He's not even a nurse. Still, he can patch a variety of violently inflicted wounds, set bones, and reallign dislocated joints with enough skill to avoid infections and worse.

Airborne infiltration: A result of his time with the Airborne alongside his piloting skills, Castle is a trained skydiver and can perform a number of various infiltration techniques (HALO, LALO, etc.) capably.

Scuba: Thanks to his Navy SEALS training, Frank is a skilled diver with the ability to successfully perform scuba ops under cover of night.

PAIN TOLERANCE
Frank's pain tolerance is so high, it's lead many to actually wonder if he can feel pain at all anymore. Gunshots, explosions, and hits from individuals with super strength have all failed to completely halt the Punisher. It's important to note, however, that his pain tolerance is not superhuman durability. He can not survive attacks that would kill a normal human, he's simply proven himself capable of functioning through pain severe enough that most people would usually collapse from it.

PEAK PHYSICAL CONDITION
Thanks to a strictly regimented diet, regular workouts, and extensive training and practice, Frank manages to keep himself in peak physical condition, his strength, endurance, speed, agility, and reflexes all at peak human levels. He's not going to win a foot race with a speedster or out-lift a Kryptonian, but he's still a force to be reckoned with.

PILOTING
Unsurprisingly, amongst Frank's many skills, he's also a trained and capable pilot. He's not going to rival any skilled fighter Aces, of course, but he's good enough to hold his own in a dogfight and is trained in both VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) aircraft and CTOL (conventional take-off and landing) aircraft.

STEALTH
Frank's tactics tend to involve a lot of explosively quick firefights and loud, intimidating, efficient combats. Still, when he finds it necessary, he's quite capable of a more stealthy approach, especially to get into position or scout out an enemy-occupied area.

TACTICS
You don't survive years of constant open warfare on the criminal element of New York and broader regions by being clumsy and predictable. Frank has an amazing, almost intuitive grasp of tactics, with ambushes and traps being a particular specialty of his. He's battled and defeated opponents who, by all rights, in a head-on fight should have won. Stronger, tougher, more durable opponents -- many of them metahumans and mutants -- have fallen to Frank's willingness to play dirty and his brutal efficiency when it comes to killing criminals.

TORTURE
Arguably one of the key skills that earned him the name Punisher, Frank has been trained extensively in the use of 'advanced interrogation' techniques which he largely uses in order to pry information out of low-level criminals who might give him leads on bigger fish. He's not usually very concerned with the fate of his interrogation subjects either, so his sessions can get quite... brutal. Its effectiveness is debatable, to say the least, but that doesn't seem to be slowing Frank down.

TRAINED REFLEXES
Over many, many years of wet work, both in the military and without, Frank has built up his response time to near superhuman levels. A lot of that is natural talent, but most is just good old fashioned rote training. With his reflexes he's been able to stand toe-to-toe with some of the deadliest and quickest martial artists on the planet and tag even speedsters on the run.

WEAPON TRAINING
Frank has proven capable of using a vast array of weaponry with efficiency and skill in any number of situations. He's even shown talent at using foreign and exotic weapons on the fly with a surprising level of effectiveness. Obviously, training with a particular weapon will improve results, however.

ARMORY
After years of hunting down criminals and repossessing their resources, acquiring a multitude of black market contacts, and raiding police stations and military convoys financed by a runaway budget, Frank Castle has put together one of, if not THE most impressive private collections of weaponry, armed and armored vehicles, and combat gear on the continent. Scattered across numerous safehouses across the country (though centered primarily around New York), the Punisher has been described as a One Man Army, in part because of the impressive amount of firepower he wields at any given moment. It's rare, in fact, to find him without a primary weapon, a secondary weapon, multiple sidearms, and full collection of explosives. He regularly makes circuits of the nearest safehouses to carry out maintenance on every firearm, and tends to stock the more remote armories with sturdier weapons that can survive long periods of time without upkeep. To put it simply, if there's a conventional weapon, Frank has it, and if it's unconventional? There's still a pretty good chance he's got it or can easily get his hands on it.

CONTACTS
Frank Castle gets around. His personality isn't what one would call endearing, but many of the people he maintains standing connections with aren't the type to care. Usually, they're black market arms dealers he's likely just saving for last on his crusade, though he maintains tabs on all of them, watching to see if they sell to anyone off-limits. He also has a handful of snitches seeded throughout New York, and an occasional government aide, small-time journalist, or beat cop who approves of what he's doing that feed him information.

MULTIPLE IDENTITIES
It's a wonder Frank even remembers his real name, at this point. He maintains a vast network of false identities, many merely quick forgeries that would crumble under serious scrutiny, but some with extensive documentation and recorded history to back them up. He uses all these identities for a variety of purposes, though primarily for purchasing and renting goods and services through legitimate channels.

SAFEHOUSES
Frank has safehouses and shelters scattered all across the continent with several more in Europe and Asia. The vast majority are centered on the East Coast, and even more so on New York, but he's usually got someplace he can retreat to when he needs it. Aside from their armories and sometimes, their garages, each one tends to be equipped for a very spartan lifestyle, some devoid of even a bed or indoor plumbing. None of that seems to bother Frank, though, and those that aren't literal holes in the ground he usually pays for with the vast resources he's seized from the criminal underworld under a massive assortment of aliases and forged identities.

SEIZED ASSETS
Though Frank's taken a lot from criminals he's killed over the years to further fuel his war on crime, perhaps the most versatile resource thus obtained is their cold hard cash. Using it almost exclusively to finance his mission, he's actually built himself a sizeable fortune. It won't rival any corporate bank account on Wall Street, but it's more than enough to keep stocked with food, weapons, and equipment, including all those rent payments on his various safehouses. A good chunk is scattered across multiple accounts all belonging to several of his aliases and forged identities, but the vast majority of it is in physical cash stored across his many safehouses for when he needs it.

ENEMIES
Frank's bloody crusade has made him too many enemies to count, and unfortunately for him, not all of them are on the criminal side of the law. He's one of New York's most wanted men, and is likely on more than a few wanted boards in precincts across the country. He's also made many enemies amongst the hero community as well, who see him as someone who's fallen so far as to be nearly indistinguishable from the criminals he hunts. He doesn't seem to care, of course, but still... It creates a lot of problems.

HATRED
Frank's not one to openly express his feelings. Even his rage is a quiet, seething affair, at least until he gets the target of his anger in his sights... However, his hatred and anger are truly unending. It's unlikely he's truly felt a calm, peaceful moment since his family was gunned down in front of him. This makes him predictable and controllable, at least to an extent, if you know the right buttons to push.

HUMAN
Some superstitious criminals may not want to believe it, but Frank Castle is only human. He doesn't have the benefit of bullet-proof skin or endless endurance. He's not super fast and like every other human, he needs sleep, food and water, and air in order to survive. A bullet to the head will kill him just as fast any other mortal, as will any one of a long list of injuries and ailments.

OBSESSED
Obsession reaches new levels with Frank Castle. He has devoted every waking moment of his life to the utter eradication of all criminals, a goal he knows full well is virtually impossible. Still he pursues it endlessly, easily drawn into fights and confrontations he shouldn't have gotten involved with by the mere whiff of something criminal going down.

SELF-DESTRUCTIVE
It may not seem like it because of all the work Frank puts into staying in peak physical condition, but Castle is self-destructive to the point of being nearly suicidal. He doesn't know how to take a break or when to stop. His One Man Crusade drives him to lengths most people would collapse upon reaching, but he just continues to push his body further and further, often
