Profile

Clarice has had a rough time so far, what with slave pens and no parents. But she's trying to move past that now, training under her mentor Victor and doing her best to come to terms with her powers - the girl is equal parts blasé, capable and emotionally vulnerable. Sequestered in Genosha and kept away from the Brotherhood's more sordid endeavours, Clarice has managed to retain a modicum of innocence. At least, so far...

At just under five and a half feet, her height is about all that appears normal about this mutant. Pointed ears poke through naturally magenta hair which is styled into loose waves that fall to her shoulders, with bright, almost glowing emerald green eyes that lack any iris, pupil or sclera.

Her skin continues this riot of colour, itself being a rich and vibrant hot pink. Darker marks on her body could well be birthmarks, including a slightly curved slash of deep purple starting above her left eye, going past a small nose and finishing just above the left side of a rosebud mouth.

Blink's form is that of an athlete, all toned arms and legs and a flat stomach, a result of hard work and dedication. With ample but not over generous curves, the teen would look a woman grown if it weren't for the perpetual look of youth in her gaze.

History

Born to parents she can no longer remember, Clarice's short life has been a tragic one. Originally from Barbados, her parents moved to Genosha to try and take advantage of it's apparent boom. Only to find when they got there that it wasn't as advertised, as soon they were tested and it was found they had a mutant baby Clarice was taken away to be trained and brainwashed.

The next ten years of her life were a living hell, a slave and considered less than human Clarice's existence was one of constant work and exhaustion. When her powers activated at the age of 12, it was for her to find her best friend in pieces next to her - having used them unknowingly during a nightmare. She spent just over a year after that being terrified of them, with no parental figures to help coax her through it (after all, everyone in the pens had their own problems to deal with), this time's left a lasting impression on Clarice.

It was towards the end of her thirteenth year when the island was liberated, and she set free from the pen by none other than Sabretooth himself. The grizzled old mutant took the young Clarice under his wing, and thus started five or so years of firm but fair mentoring.

Now Clarice is nearly nineteen, a plucky teen who's learnt to use her powers but still struggles to push them to their limits for fear of hurting those she cares about. She's been sheltered so far from some of the Brotherhood's more nefarious schemes, idolizing Victor, and respecting Magneto as a visionary.

Personality

Clarice is in general a rather amiable girl despite her dark past. Victor has gone a long way to helping erase her previous misgivings about her powers, but she's still lacking in confidence when it comes to really pushing their limit. When faced with conflict, her go-to tactic is to appear blasé about it all, a tactic that can come across as abrupt or uncaring at first, until people get to know her.

She likes to try and get out and about, going to places that others might not be able to reach with her teleportation ability, collecting oddments that she finds on these excursions. Though told the X-Men are part of the problem, she can't help but be a little in awe of them, free mutants all their lives and seemingly part of a family larger than blood ties alone. Envious, might be the word in fact.

Abilities

JAVELINS
An extension of her portal power, Clarice can materialse short javelins at will. When thrown, she can choose to either teleport what is hit out of another portal, or simply 'displace' the matter that it comes into contact with. In this manner, people can be moved out of danger, or someones heart might be 'displaced' in a rather terminal fashion. Though Blink can make these at will, she tends to go into combat with loaded quiver of pre-made javelins on her back. As each one is still that little bit draining, and sometimes speed is too important to sacrifice.

PORTALS
Blink's primary power is the ability to open portals to places she's seen or been. Whilst in general she needs to see a place with her own eyes, it's possible to open a portal to a place she's never been - providing she's either had lots of pictures and maps to study, or people don't mind a wide degree of inaccuracy. For instance, the moon /is/ a possibility, but where they'd end up on it's surface is anyone's guess. Portal seems to be able to open normal portals at will, with very little to no effort, however opening a portal to somewhere she's not been, or a large one for a big item (she's moved a truck and a sailboat so far...) is much more draining. As is opening multiple portals at the same time, doing so is easy enough, but each one is that much harder to maintain than the last. The main danger of a portal is it's 'wave', the edge of the portal shreds anything it comes into contact with, wood, metal, organic matter, molecules just come apart as the wave passes through them. This in itself turns the portals from useful tool, to deadly weapon.

ACROBATICS
Along with her fighting training, Clarice has found a taste for acrobatics. As happy hanging by her knees from a cross bar as she is riding a bike, the young mutant uses it as much as a way of escape and release than anything else. After all, there isn't always someone to spar with, but you can always get on the bars and swing, twist and spin to your hearts content!

CLOSE COMBAT
Victor has been training Clarice for five years now, and of course, hand to hand fighting is a big part of that. With her body already toned from slave labour, it wasn't hard to go from grueling work, to hard training. At this point she'd give any martial arts trainer a run for their money, but likely wouldn't stand up to a truly skilled adversary.

LOCKSMITH
It's something she's taught herself. After all, a portal is great, but if you can't get inside in the first place, how are you going to make sure you don't destroy anything with their waves? To date Clarice is quite adept at getting into places she shouldn't, both old style tumbler locks and the new electronic ones, given enough time (and with the right tools), she can get into just about anywhere.

STIPEND
Clarice gets only what she is given from the Brotherhood, her accommodation, training and even clothes all come at the regime's expense. Sometimes she might sell one of her 'Collection of Oddities' that she picks up whilst adventuring, but this happens rarely. After all, it's not a collection if she gets rid of it. And each object has memories attached.

NERVOUS
Clarice still remembers her dismembered friend. Despite Victor's best efforts, there's still a part of her subconscious that's afraid of what she can do. This manifests as her powers rarely reaching their full potential. Clarice can open portals between worlds, if she'd only trust herself. But she doesn't, and until she does, this will ever hold her back.

OBVIOUS
There's no hiding her hair and skin. And even if she could, those glowing green eyes would need some pretty dark glasses to cover. As it is, there's no camouflage, foundation or wig that will allow the girl to walk in public and not be known for what she is. A mutant, or at the very least, a super.

PORTALS!
They're dangerous! A miscalculation and her companions could be cut in half. Not to mention that she's still not got full control over them, sometimes being off the mark by a little, sometimes by a matter of miles. It's not often where she /opens/ them, but where they come out that's the problem. Many a tree, wall and even a few wild animals have been torn asunder by her displacement wave.
