History

History:

Catwoman's history is not for the faint of heart. She was born in one of the worst parts of Gotham City. Her parents, Brian and Maria, came up well short of being ideal parents. Maria was often distant toward both Selina and her sister Maggie, focusing more of her attention on the cats they had instead. Brian was an alcoholic and treated Maria very poorly. Just to get away from the trouble at home, Selina took up gymnastics, but at one point she came home from school to find Maria dead in a pool of her own blood in the bathtub. Suicide by razor blade was accepted as the cause. If that wasn't enough, another day came where Brian also died, this due to overdrinking. Selina ran away from home after summoning the police.

With Maggie in an orphanage, Selina took to the streets to survive, starting out by stealing food from various supermarkets before she was busted and taken to an orphanage herself. This led to juvenile hall thanks to the trouble she consistently caused. Attempted murder followed when she was thirteen, sent to yet another orphanage different from the first one. When Selina learned the place was embezzling money, they stuffed her into a bag, leaving her to die in a river. Fortunately for her, she managed to get herself free. Revenge soon followed as she obtained proof of the money theft along with taking some of it for herself first, then she contacted the police and they took care of the rest.

Selina laid low for a spell, but the thrill of thieving was too great to ignore for very long. She spent time as a prostitute, but also ramped up her capers as a cat burglar, graduating to mostly pilfering valuable gems from museums and the rich. During one of these forays, a ninja made off with a totem she'd been after. Tracking him down, she came across a warehouse being used as a clandestine martial arts academy. The ninja, Kai, urged for her to be punished, but the Sensei saw how fast her reflexes were and invited her to join them to improve her knowledge and skill.

After accepting, some weeks passed and Selina showed real progress. By then, she'd gained the nickname of "Nehko-Chan" at the academy. This, along with the fact the Sensei showed favor to Selina over the rest, led to deepening jealousy and resentment from Kai, who often injured her on purpose while training. This resulted in her leaving before much more time went by, but she soon found a new target to focus on.

Selina was watching the news when Batman was sighted around Robinson Park. After hurrying over to see if she could spot him, she spotted him for just a couple seconds, leaving through the air as he often did. Inspired by what she'd seen, Selina had the idea of trying to be like him in the sense of coming up with a costume of her own, trying to get people to react one way or another like they tended to when he was around. After burning through the rest of what she had just to come up with the proper costume and equipment, she was in the midst of knocking off a convenience store only to be interrupted by a number of security guards. She fled, but not before one dubbed her "Catwoman." It stuck, the main reason being she liked it herself.

She soon developed a stronger tie to Batman, namely in the form of being a thorn in his side due to all the thievery she took part in. On some level, it was done to gain his attention and give her the chance to get closer to him. By doing what she did, it put her squarely in his sights as someone to stop, yet for some reason she never ended up in Arkham Asylum. She also didn't show the fear of him so many others in Gotham City did, and along the way she had no choice but to admit to herself she actually liked him on some level. It became a game of cat and bat, both of them trying to one-up each other from her point of view.

Selina also came to become somebody in Gotham City's social circles. Few people, if any, seemed to care enough to look into her past or how she came to be better off financially. She showed a penchant for cat-based charities, occasionally holding fundraising events. Other times, she simply stole to put much of her profits into said charities, keeping enough for herself to live comfortably, if modestly, with a few luxuries allowed.

At some of these events, Selina met Bruce Wayne and struck up a friendship with him, visiting Wayne Manor from time to time. However, she has no idea at this point that the billionaire playboy is, in fact, Batman himself. What will happen if and when she finds out the truth about him, or vice versa?

Personality

Personality:

Upon first meeting her, one might assume Selina is a shallow woman, lacking anything much depth when it comes to her personality. In reality there are many layers to her, much of which remains hidden until she gets to where she can trust someone. Compassionate, she has a huge heart that holds a lot of love for those she cares about, especially her beloved big cats, and she is willing to go out of her way to offer aid when and where she can if she feels it's justified. She is also shrewd and cunning, not only when petitioning people for donations but also when she's on the job as Catwoman. Despite her warmth, there's also a side of her that is slow to trust, wary of people outside her inner circle.

Acrobatics:
Catwoman is very talented when it comes to acrobatics. Used on a regular basis, she is able to pull off flips and tumbles that are on par or better with a Olympic athlete. This can aid in her getting out of the way of gunfire and help her break a fall that might normally cause injury. She is no Nightwing, but she could give him a run for his money.

Agility:
Between the gymnastics she took as a girl and the years spent keeping herself in top shape, Selina is able to bend and move in ways a lot of people can't. This makes getting in and out of tight places a lot easier for her and aids in her skills as a fighter.

Cats:
Though Selina does not appear to have any special powers or control over cats, they tend to gravitate toward her, listen, and do what she wishes of them. This may be as basic as being the biggest "cat" around them, but it could have to do with a natural affinity for them. With all she's done to look after felines of all shapes and sizes, it's no wonder they'll listen to her.

Combat:
Selina has learned several forms of hand-to-hand combat from expert trainers. This includes martial art forms such as Kung Fu and Karate, plus boxing and street fighting. She is able to use her these skills along with her agility to handle up to a dozen street level thugs with ease. She is equally skilled when it comes to fighting with her whip, able to strike specific parts of the body or use it to entangle someone.

Disguises:
Not only does Catwoman have a variety of costumes at her disposal, she's adept at making herself look like others through the art of impersonation. Give her the chance to study someone's attire and she can duplicate most of it with enough lead time, making it easier to get around a place in plain sight. This can be used to give her the chance to case a place before returning later to pull off a heist.

Perception:
When fully focused there are few details that escape Catwoman's notice. This is beneficial at all times but is especially so when she's on a job and in need of casing a place, figuring out security systems, patrol routes, and so on.

Stealth:
She's not able to escape detection every single time but Catwoman is extremely good at keeping to shadows and moving silently, aided in doing so by being able to move easily from one point of concealment to another and moving swiftly with quiet steps. Avoiding detection is vital for a cat burglar, and it's a reason she's a successful one.

Thievery:
There are very few who are as good at pulling off a heist as Catwoman. It's a skill she first developed as a teen on the streets and she rapidly grew proficient at it. Good enough to be considered a "master thief," Selina's able to break into just about any place she wishes through the use of various techniques including accessing or overriding electronic security systems, paying attention to security guards and their patterns, and through the use of stealth.

Willpower:

While it isn't always on display, Selina possesses a high level of willpower. She is a survivor in every sense of the word going back to her childhood, living on the streets, and eventually becoming Catwoman. When she puts her mind to something, there is little to prevent from accomplishing it when it comes to the mental side.

Arsenal:
Catwoman has a small arsenal she uses along with her whip. There's the bolas, a thrown weapon used to snare a person. She also uses smoke bombs for distraction along with helping make potential escape routes easier for her to utilize. There is also a set of silver spikes she uses to disable foes that she particularly despises, jamming them into joints such as underneath kneecaps or through hands or feet, on the rare occasion they're needed. The goggles she wears aren't just for show. They allow her to have access to a personal computer system and night vision, providing her with a distinct advantage when on the job.

Costumes:
Selina is a skilled clothing designer and has a wide variety of costumes of varying styles. Any time an idea comes into her mind for a new Catwoman costume, she tends to develop a working prototype before determining whether it's worth using.

Motorcycle:
Selina spent a pretty penny to get herself a sport motorcycle. Modified for better handling, durability, and speed, it helps her do her work by providing her with a fast, small way of escaping when needed. Plus, it's just plain fun to ride.

Wealth:
Selina has a comfortable amount of money from the various jobs she's completed. She simply chooses to save it and spend it on the people around her in her neighborhood, or put it toward any of the charities she's involved with.. She spends only enough on herself to keep her small apartment in good order and to buy new gear to make her "job" easier.

Whip:

The whip is Catwoman's preferred weapon by far. Multi-functional, it can be used to trip up a person or bind them and can also be used to strike with if she needs to protect herself. It can also used to swing from one place to another, such as crossing rooftops or other gaps.

Criminal Record:
You can be the best at what you do and still run into trouble from time to time. Such is the case with Catwoman. She has had some run-ins with the law, mainly when she was in her teenage years, and has acquired a bit of a file on her as a result. It'ssafe to assume that she'll get the book thrown at her if she were to be arrested again and identified as Catwoman.

Ego:
Selina is rather self-absorbed and it shows, especially when it comes to her conquests. Sure, she's good but there are times she loves to brag about it, especially if she manages to pull off a big heist or succeeds in wrapping a man around her little finger. This is obviously not always the best thing as her ego just might wind up getting the better of her someday.

Haunted:
At times, Selina is haunted by the deaths of her parents and how they passed. It gives her nightmares to this day similar to what Bruce Wayne may deal with, but she doesn't have the fancy mansion to fall back on. She's also lost track of what happened to her younger sister, Maggie, and this troubles her. Beyond that, Selina has had to work to earn everything she has, whether that work was on the level or not. She's a stronger person because of it, but the ghosts are always a step behind her.

Secret Identity:

It is vital for Selina to keep her identity as Catwoman secret, as it'd be dangerous if it were to be discovered by the wrong people. She has made a number of enemies as Catwoman and things are dangerous enough as it is. It'd become doubly so if those who seek to hurt or kill her were to find out her real identity.
