A strong and confident psychic with a short fuse and deadly ninja skills. To most, she is just another pretty face in the modelling industry. To those who are close to her, it's hard to predict which one of Betsy's melded souls they're going to be dealing with. She can go from socialite to bully to mother to killer quite swiftly, and that tends to make people uncomfortable around her at best.

Appearing to be somewhere in her mid-twenties, this woman has the body and attitude that one would expect to see in a magazine, her expression stern and humorless. Standing at almost 173 cm, it is quite likely that her Asian roots are mixed. That likelihood is increased when her violet eyes are noticed, too deep to be blue, but not nearly dark enough to be the customary black of a pure-blooded Asian. Her hair is colored so that the spun silk reflects with a deep purple.

Having been a fashion model and being wealthy enough that money is no object, Elizabeth has a tendency to wear what looks good on her and what is currently in style. Despite her height, Betsy has a tendency to wear high heels. However, considering the look on her face that implies a total lack of a sense of humor, woe to the fool that should ask her how the weather is up there.

History

Elizabeth Braddock was born in terribly unusual circumstances. Her father (James Braddock), an extra-dimensional knight posing as a research scientist (also part of the Captain Britain Corps), and her mother an aristocrat. Both were lost tragically when they were murdered by a supercomputer named Mastermind, which was created by her father. Betsy has two brothers Jamie and Brian (her twin). They have been through many of their own adventures, with doppelgangers from other dimensions and all sorts of craziness that her father had gotten tangled up in through his association with S.T.R.I.K.E.

Suffice to say, Betsy had already been through far too much before she even met the X-Men. Even then, half of that time, her powers were in utero. She only had discovered her telekinetic and telepathic abilities only after her brain was controlled by Dr. Synne. That whole debacle deserves its own epic account, but that was not even the pivoting point in Betsy's life. Little did she know of what the future held in store for her. She tried to leave everything behind after that moment and become a model.

It was during this time as a model that Betsy made contact with a S.T.R.I.K.E. Psi Agent (since she still had her powers from Dr. Synne's attempt to control her mind). She got caught up in the agency that her father had worked with, and became heavily involved in their operations. While maintaining two identities, this is where Betsy Braddock learned SpecOps approaches to operations and became incredibly skilled in the strike-team approach to her missions. After some very close calls, and being rescued by her brother Brian (Captain Britain), Betsy decided to step down from S.T.R.I.K.E., and return home to Braddock manor (which had been repaired).

However, life was not content to leave Betsy alone. Her brother Brian fought an alternate dimension version of himself, Kaptain Briton, and lost. This doppelganger tried to take his place and take advantage of Betsy. This alternate version did not live very long. In a fit of rage and anger, Betsy fried this imposter's brain with a wave of psychic energy, killing him and rescuing her brother. This was when S.T.R.I.K.E. approached her again (when her brother refused to help them, for whatever reasons), and asked her to take up the mantle of Captain Britain. She agreed, and using the old costume of Kaptain Briton, assumed the title of defender of Britain.

Eventually, this lead to several complicated situations. Brian's enemy, Vixen, lead Betsy into a trap, and Slaymaster beat her brutally. This caused Brian, the original Captain Britain, to come to his sister's rescue. This, however, only happened because Brian felt his sister's pain, when Slaymaster and Vixen tore out her eyes. She refused to receive cybernetic eyes and was sent away to recover at Xavier University, where through her connections, she could secure a place to stay and perfect her telepathic abilities from Professor X to train her "sight without eyes." Of course, Betsy's adventurous side meant she could not sit still for long. She went on many missions with the X-Men helping them out. However, again, life would take a drastic turn.

Betsy does not remember much of this, as she had died during a battle with Sabretooth, because she was gutted. The X-Men, supposedly, acquired a potion from the dimension of the Crimson Dawn that brought Betsy back from the dead, but marked with the otherworldliness of the other dimension, allowing her to travel in the shadows and forming a red tattoo over her right eye. After being resurrected, everyone decided that it would be best if Betsy took some time off (and she agreed). She was sent to the Swiss Alps to recover and recuperate (she still did not have use of her eyes, but used her telepathic abilities to see).

But Betsy's decision didn't get to be an issue for long, as Betsy was kidnapped by the otherworldly being known as Mojo, given cybernetic eyes that were also cameras and made to star in her own show for a time until she made her escape. After being rescued, the cybernetic eyes were removed, and her eyes were healed.

She wouldn't have long to adjust to her newly returned eyesight before she was captured by the Hand, trained in the art of the Ninja and to be the perfect assassin. Brainwashed into the identity of Lady Mandarin and body-swapped into the body of Kwannon, lover of Matsu'o Tsurayaba, one of the Hand's leaders, she killed under their command. Her return to the X-Men and her old life was met with some uncertainty given her new body, not to mention her new personality. It would be Charles Xavier's endorsement that would see her fully accepted again. In the time since the Hand has made multiple plays to reacquire her, some more successful than others.

Personality

Considering that Psylocke is a magical amalgamation of two very different women, to say Psylocke's personality can be a little erratic is putting it mildly. Betsy was warm, cheerful, a little arrogant and a lot adventurous. Kwannon was cold, calculating, blunt to the point of being tactless, and perhaps just a little heartless. This means that there are times that Psylocke can be rather affable and other times that she can be rather aloof, and there is no telling which version of her you are going to get at any given moment.

Between her adventurous nature from one part of her and her killer instinct from the other, Psylocke can be very decisive, especially when in the heat of battle. Once a decision is made, there is very little keeping her from acting upon said decision immediately. Add to that that both personalities were willing to kill and Psylocke is a force to be reckoned with.

However, for all her flaws, Psylocke's melded personalities have their good sides to. She is loyal, almost to a fault. She has a maternal instinct for small children, letting them see a softer side of her then most ever get to. It is said around the halls of Xavier's that Psylocke is the perfect person to go to when you have nightmares, because she is scarier than the nightmares themselves.

She comes across as a bit of a health nut, as both her daily exercise regime and her strict dietary plan are adhered to with an almost religious fanaticism.

MIND SHIELD
Between Psylocke's incredible psychic gifts and her scrambled personality, she has substantial resistance to psychic attack and intrusion. Only an extraordinarily talented telepath under ideal circumstances has a chance of penetrating the dark shadows of her mind.

PRECOGNITION
Betsy has limited precognition in the forms of dreams and rare visions that are sporadic and uncontrolled. Either they are immediately short-term, warning of imminent peril, or they are complex and nuanced dreams that lean towards bizarre metaphor and are difficult to interpret.

PSIONICS
Betsy can create psionic energy with the power of her mind and focus it into a physical embodiment of her power. This originally took on the form of bolts of psionic force that attack only an opponent's mind. A more focused application of this energy is a katana-shaped weapon that can bypass armor to damage the neural pathways of her targets. When circumstances permit she can generate a 'knife' of psychic power that allows her to fully express her talents and can kill with great efficiency if used with precise strikes.

SHADOWS
Due to the Crimson Dawn's potion, Psylocke has become tainted with the other dimension and is able to travel through shadows, even becoming virtually invisible when within them.

TELEKINESIS
While powerful in terms of strength, Psylocke's telekinesis is offset by her relative lack of control and precision. Smashing a car door apart is simpler than unlocking it from the inside. She can levitate herself and even affect something like flight, albeit in a clumsy fashion. Notably she has practiced forming shields and barriers to deflect attacks, and can establish these fields anywhere she has line of sight. However, her use of them is blasé and unimaginative. She frequently uses her telekinetic gifts to bolster her physical qualities, giving her functionally super-human strength, agility, and endurance.

TELEPATHY

An extraordinarily powerful telepath, Psylocke's style of mental manipulation runs along the lines of brute force, much like a sledgehammer. She can communicate telepathically, reading thoughts and transmitting her own to people. She can stun or paralyze a person with a focused thought, black out or erase their memories, and rapidly 'scan' an area with her thoughts to get a lay of the land. Her gift for illusions runs towards simple deception that implants a powerful suggestion in the target's mind. Additionally, she may outright crush a person's mind to take control of it entirely, though this requires tremendous focus on her part. Almost constantly and reflexively, she uses her abilities to 'shade' her psionic and telepathic gifts, making her difficult to detect (even to very powerful psychics) and masking the aura of her gifts.

MODELING
Betsy was a professional model for many years. While she is not currently working as a model, she has the know-how and contacts that she could easily get into that line of work again. Not to mention the looks.

NINJUSTU
Psylocke is a highly disciplined and expert practitioner of Ninjutsu, the art of the Ninja. Beyond mere combat, it encompasses a range of skills, from stealth to assassination techniques to ways to gather information or knowledge. Psylocke uses these skills in conjunction with her psionic and shadow travel abilities to make her one of the most formidable Ninja on the planet.

PILOT

Having been a chartered pilot for a time, Betsy is able to fly a variety of aircraft of light to medium cargo weight, mostly of the prop plane variety.

ASSASSIN FOR HIRE
While no longer on good terms with organizations like the Hand, Betsy's time as an assassin for them has resulted in a good knowledge of the seedy underworld of criminal enterprise. She knows many safe places around the world to work from and has criminal contacts available in many large cities worldwide.

BRADDOCK FORTUNE
The Braddock name comes with many perks. A fortune and mansion that is as big as Xavier's, the aristocratic standing and all that goes with it. For people like Betsy, work is really something she does because she wants to, not because she must.

CAPTAIN BRITAIN CORPS
Having once worn the Captain Britain costume herself, Betsy is an ally of heroes who take up that mantle and has a sense of patriotic fidelity to that identity as well as the individual bearers, in this reality and any other.

FAMILY
Betsy has two brothers, Jamie and Brian. Brian is also her twin. While Jamie can be a little sporadic, Brian is a rock she can always rely on through her life. No matter what happens. She also shares a link with her twin, a sense that lets her know when he is in trouble or needs her. She can even experience his pain if the circumstances are right, something that has happened when he knew she was hurt in the past and came to her rescue.

HFC MEMBERSHIP
With her family name comes the Membership to one of the most exclusive club in the world-The Hellfire Club. She doesn't use it often but where there is a branch of the club, she would have access if she chose to utilize it.

NINJA GEAR
While she doesn't often need it, Betsy has access to any equipment a professional ninja could require, as well as the resources and networking to obtain more of it- even illegal substances and compounds- as needed. While she prefers to use her psychic blades, her personal katana had been forged specifically for her use, at her direction to help take advantage of her talents.

X-MEN

Betsy has been a member of the X-Men and she has access to the resources of that group as well as Xavier's School.

BODY SWAPPED
The ninja organization known as the Hand tore Betsy's mind and soul from her body, blended it with the mind and soul of Kwannon, and then half went back to each. This process resulted in the minds, spirits and bodies of the two women becoming blended, including memories, skills, and psychic powers. This has resulted in Betsy becoming trapped in Kwannon's body, giving her the appearance of being a young woman of Japanese origin despite her British ancestry and upbringing. For people who knew Betsy Braddock or Captain Britain, it can cause a great deal of confusion and doubt. Unknown to Betsy, Kwannon is trapped in Betsy's body and is working for the Hand under the name Revanche.

BRADDOCK LEGACY
Like many notables, Betsy's family history is convoluted and full of perilous figures. If it isn't her father's otherworldly heritage, it is her mother's noble one, or even her own superhuman one and frequently she has been targeted by entities and organizations due to this heritage and her family members have been made hostages, or worse, to gain her attention.

IDENTITY CRISIS
Psylocke is a gestalt entity that is a combination of Betsy and Kwannon. She has many memories of both lives, which can often conflict with one another. She has distinct memories of being in two different places during major world events and struggles to reconcile her preconceptions of right and wrong as Betsy Braddock with those of Kwannon, as the two psyches are forced together. The two personalities were very different as well; this makes her reactions to things unpredictable at best.

ONE THING AT A TIME
Psylocke is a very powerful telepath and a very powerful telekinetic, but not at the same time. Using telepathy for anything more than crude efforts require a great deal of focus, preventing her from taking complex actions and virtually shuts down her telekinesis and psionics. Similarly, while she can use her telekinesis with explosive effect or to bolster herself with ease, complex, or nuanced tasks greatly inhibit her telepathy, limiting her to base communication and self-defense.

TEMPER, TEMPER
Psylocke has an explosively short fuse and combined with her psychic and ninja skills, tends to express her frustration violently and immediately. It's a major inhibitor in her ability to work her psychic skills with finesse and contributes largely to negative relationships with more stable teammates and allies.

THE HAND

Psylocke was temporarily a master assassin in the employ of the Hand, an organization of shadowy ninjas. She was body-swapped with Kwannon, the lover of one of the Hand's leaders, and brainwashed into doing their work. She escaped their custody and influence but possess a tremendous measure of knowledge of their inner workings and methods, as well as Kwannon's body. The Hand constantly pops up in her life to still her voice and regain Kwannon's mortal shell, even though they now have Betsy's mortal shell working for them under the name of Revanche.
