Growing up in the Narrows is never an easy thing, but to the woman known only as Deadlights, it was the finest training camp the world could offer. This self-styled "Urban Pirate" has decided to strike out and make her mark on the world, challenging the powers that be just to see how high she can climb. Combining ambidextrous marksmanship with Omni-spectral vision and the ability to curve the trajectory of her bullets, those heights might be dizzying indeed.

ENHANCED GUNSMITH

Deadlights has an intuitive understanding of gun and ammunition design, function and creation. She can design guns of nearly any caliber, material or purpose, and can repair, break down and rebuild them; she can also fashion nearly any type of ammunition to fit the gun. This allows her to maintain a unique arsenal of her own design. This has the side-effect of making her ammunition untraceable (no known manufacturer).

FASTE NERVES

Maria's nervous system and thought processes operate at a much faster level than the average human being. This power works in tandem with Omni-spectral Vision and Trajectory Curving: While using her "second sight", her neurological processes work so rapidly that the world seems to slow down, effectively putting reality in 'bullet time' for her. This allows her to move and react at speeds beyond that of the average human being.

OMNI-SPECTRAL VISION

Within the confines of a normal distance of line of sight, Maria is able to detect all possible forms of energy with her eyes. This includes light, motion, heat, electromagnetism, magic, and even fluctuations in space time and dimensional barriers. Barring technology or magic that negates or reflects energy sources, nothing is hidden from her vision. By focusing on energy sources, Maria is able to see through solid matter, though not perfectly: The strength of the energy source acts like 'light' passing through matter's 'shadow'; the more 'light', the easier to see by.

GUN KATA

A form of martial arts based on rapidly calculating the most precise angle for targeting an opponent and predicting where to be in order to avoid return fire by the enemy, producing the appearance of being able to dodge bullets, or have bullets seemingly pass through unharmed. Practicioners of this art are expert marksmen who rarely miss a target.

MULTI-LINGUAL

Deadlights speaks English, Formal Spanish, Old Chinese (circa 1800's) and American Sign Language.

TONFA

Maria uses her bladed guns with the same martial arts techniques used in wielding tonfa / police batons.

TRAJECTORY CURVING

Maria can curve the trajectory of her fired bullets through a combination of mental calculation and physical movements. This allows her to shoot at targets from behind or around objects. This ability can only be used in conjunction with her "Second Sight", which provides her with enough visual information to aim for the shot. This curving technique works best with bullets but can be extended to knives, darts or small objects, with lesser efficacy.

TWO HANDS

Maria is an outstanding marksman with either hand, and can use both guns in tandem.

URBAN PIRACY

A combination of various urban and survival skills, such as breaking and entering, hotwiring standard vehicles, disappearing into a crowd or an urban environment, knowledge of criminal behavior and culture, finding food and shelter, where to sell stolen goods, methods of avoiding and escaping police, and being aware of dangers inherent to "ghetto" or "slum" environments.

CORSAIR PISTOLS

Deadlights' primary weapons are a pair of personally designed heavy-caliber handguns fitted with short bayonettes along the bottom of the barrel. While she can create varying forms of ammo, she has designed her gun blades to use more standard varieties, such as hollow points, armor piercing, bullets containing a tracking chip, or even non-lethal rubber bullets. The blades of the weapons can be used in hand-to combat as long knives or as cutting tools, and the tops of the guns are designed for use as tonfa.

FULLSUIT

A completely sealed combat suit worn as Maria's primary costume. It's waterproof, and lightly armored with a thin kevlar weave that resists low caliber ammunition and standard blade weaponry. It comes with a ventilation and oxygenation system that can be turned on to filter out gasses and toxins, or be used underwater for up to two hours. The armored backpack can withstand munitions up to fifty caliber and the concussion impacts from low-grade explosives, compression from falling up to 20 feet and penetration from standard blades. It contains spare ammunition, medical kits, rations, and oxygenation and filtration systems. The goggles have retractable darkening lenses rating for welding, which help shield out indirect bright lights (but would not help against intense, directed beams aimed at the eyes).

ENERGY CLOAKING

Any material, spell or technology that cloaks, deflects or blocks the flow of energy can be used to hide things from Dealights' sight.

FAMILY LEGACY

It's been fully impressed into Maria since birth that she *must* live up to the reputation of the Pirate Queens before her. She believes she has no hope for a normal life, and believes that she can in no way walk back any evil she has done, despite understanding or even loathing prior actions: She fully grasps right from wrong, but feels she has no choice but to do wrong even if she may want to. Her sublimated guilt and fatalistic outlook express themselves through extreme risk-taking behavior.

GUILTY

The psychological stress of attempting to smother a still very healthy conscience can be taken advantage of by those capable of reading minds or seeing the signs. Confronting her with evidence that she is not the hardened criminal she appears to be can put her completely offguard or even reduce her to a catatonic state.

NEWBIE

Deadlights is just beginning her full launch into the career of Pirate Queen and while skilled, lacks experience. She has no concept yet of her natural mental and physical limitations, and ends up wildly spitballing plans and actions simply to discover what works; this causes her to take unnecessary risks that put herself and others in danger. Both failure AND success can be her undoing.

OVERLOAD

Deadlights is more vulnerable to temporary blindness from bright lights using her "second sight". Any excessive amounts of energy, be they magical, energy or radiation, can render her unable to see, sometimes for days at a time.

PERIODIC INSOMNIA

Maria can see through her eyelids; her eyes do not 'turn off' when she closes them, and she requires some kind of energy dampening system or material to stop seeing things. While she has adjusted to this over time, she has difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep. She goes through bouts of extreme fatigue and borderline insanity before simply collapsing in exhaustion for unpredictable amounts of time.
